The Official 2014/15 Tank Watch thread

Well, I think we can safely say Philadelphia, NY and Minnesota are locks for the 3 worst records. The surprising thing to me is that I thought Philly would EASILY out-tank everyone else. Not that easy

Indiana and Detroit picked up wins. Close miss for LA. Not much separation for the teams 4-11. Jazz are currently #7.

I'm OK with getting the #7 this year IF Gobert & Exum develops as rapidly as they've been. Both of them have the potential to be top 3 when it is all said in done in their respective draft class.

So ... we're currently #5.

- DX would have us drafting Porzingis (SCORE!!!)

- Chad Ford's big board would have us drafting Looney (WHAT?!?!)

- NBAdraft.net would have us drafting Winslow (Meh)

Bump before One Love does it.

Technically Orlando is now in 5th now by less than .001, with the Jazz 6th and Boston .001 back in 7th. Indiana just 1/2 game back in 8th.

It's going to be interesting to see how long Kanter remains as a starter. Moving Gobert into the starting lineup will damage the tank in a big way, but I don't know if you can continue justify Kanter starting when Gobert is so much better. Our tanking skills will be rigorously tested by the Rudy.

Just frickin' play the best guy out there, I don't see the conundrum here...

I don't know that it damages the tank that much. Kanter still gets his minutes off the bench. Jazz are 3-5 in their last eight, with Rudy playing >=29 mins in all but one game (the Laker win). Going back a little further, in the other games in which he had >25 mins, the Jazz were only 1-4. Put him in with the starters and the bench is a lot weaker. When a team has a rotation of Ingles, Hood and Millsap at SG, they're not going to win a ton of games.

This
Start rudy. We still will lose lots. Maybe win a couple more games but nothing drastic

Starting Rudy sets the tone for the game. If it doesn't damage the tank, then why does anyone care about Rudy starting? I'm pretty sure nobody would care if they believed it didn't make a difference.

Anyway, it's going to be harder and harder to keep Rudy out of the starting lineup, so I guess we'll see just how committed the FO is to the tank. Starting Rudy definitely will make a difference.

Call it development or whatever you want, but Utah is not making decisions based on immediate wins, otherwise Rudy would have bee the starter already.

QS probably has an idea of how many games he considers is sufficient for losing a starting job after returning from injury. And if there are some trade talks going on, I'm sure he and DL are working closely together (unlike the relationship DL had with Ty). So you keep Kanter starting for a bit longer.

The Jazz have now played 41 games, half the season.

They have the same record as they had last year--14/27.

Carry on.

So we've gotten better after adding rookies and another year of development, plus a harder schedule. I'm impressed.

Maybe highballing Kant so get smth valuable in return? But yeah. You are right. No instant wins.

I don;t get this concept of showcasing a player to increase his value. In any event he's decreasing it with his game play. We're not going to get much in return for Kanter if he keeps playing so poorly like he has been, it is what it is. I say play who earns it the most, and we all know who that is.

You see, that is the part that things do not go as planned for both Jazz and Enes. He is supposed to play better, actually he is supposed to give his very best, more actually than that, he is supposed to live up to his surname "Kan(Blood)-Ter(Sweat)", and sweat some serious blood to make his living.

But kids these days, they do not know the real value of food on the table.

I think rudy does not effect our wins and losses all that much..... we suck as a team and are going to get beat alot. What starting rudy does, imo, is make us stay closer in the games that we lose

If the Jazz are even remotely interested in trading Kanter before the deadline, then they're absolutely going about it the wrong way by keeping him in the starting lineup. Gobert/Favors is a better starting lineup for the Jazz and Kanter should look better as a trade chip coming in off the bench AND playing with Gobert. Rudy helps cover for Kanter's (admittedly improving) defensive deficiencies, while allowing him to do what he does best - score. This strategy would be two-fold. The Jazz see how a 3 man rotation of Gobert/Favors/Kanter could function if they decide to bring Enes back, or it could let them highlight Kanter as a piece for a mid-season trade for a wing or PG for the future - which is mainly beneficial because of the potential cap savings that would allow the Jazz to pursue the other half of that equation (starting wing or PG) in free agency.

I'm not on the "Trade Enes for chump change" bandwagon at all. In fact, I'm of the mind that tge Jazz should start using Gobert and Favors together (because they're clearly the future cornerstones of the franchise) and then try to use Gobert to pump up Kanter's trade value to include him in a blockbuster move for a potential All-Star. If all they can get are spare parts, I'd rather see them wait to see what the market sets his value at. He's still a physically imposing, improving, 22-year old big with a solid offensive game and he's shown improvement on his defensive game under Snyder. I was hoping he and Favors would work together, but it's clear that Gobert and Favors can and will work. While it might make Enes expendable, it doesn't mean that they have to give him away.
