The Official Get Well Jody Genessey Thread

Never really dealt with excessive weight gain issues (I'm 6'0" and topped out at 190 lbs as my heaviest), but I've dealt with depression issues since my sister passed away back in 2007. It's a nasty, horrible thing to deal with and kudos to Jody for admitting it and getting the help he needs. I've liked his writing and he's one of the few sports personalities I actually follow on Twitter. I like that he opened an account at Jazzfanz and interacts with us fanatics. I really hope that the time off helps him and his family get centered and life can back to normal for him.

He has an almost cringey sense of humor, but his insight is great. One of the most reliable Jazz insiders we have. You can just tell he's one of the good guys.

Gonna miss his work. Hope he comes back happy and healthy.

Applause for his company. Didn't think anyone did that anymore. I can only imagine how that would go down at my work.

Not to sound like an uncaring prat, but what a total non-story. What kind of self-indulged individual with the microphone that they have makes this a thing? I think in other places the employers would replace them in a wink. This article was like reading a LiveJournal post. I wish I could take a break from work because I realize I'm an utter failure at something, but, alas, I must truck on and 'earn' the money I'm trying to work for. I've never known an intelligent person, such as Jody, to boast he's getting paid to not work. Whatever.

If a player on the Jazz pulled this stunt we'd all be dual wielding pitchforks.

"My boss was kind enough to suggest the personal leave (paid even!)."

This is always a little sad when i realize how differently Germany, and America treat leave. Germans take weeks of sick leave a year, plus regular leave. Sometimes, often they combine the two giving them monster blocks of time off.

First year we were here, a lady told me "Im going on holiday to Greece" I replied "Oh thats great"! She said "well its only 12 days".
For us Americans a week is a long vacation.

Anyways get better soon Jody. Take the time to fix whatever needs fixing.

Yeah, like most fans did when Sanders had to leave because of personal problems. He was labeled as a spoiled junkie.

When you make millions of dollars like Larry Sanders, you get judged more harshly.

Well said. Depression is insidious and all-consuming. I have already posted a lot about it in the general forum, so I won't repeat it all here. But hunting for meds that work has caused me to gain a good 60+ pounds. But my doctor always said getting the depression under control was the most important and would deal with the weight gain when I stabilized. But now I am pushing 300 pounds. It is discouraging considering I was a strong 230 not very long ago (about 15% body fat then...still more than I wanted but way better than measuring my body fat in pounds...heh). Kudos to him indeed for getting help and trying to get things under control. It can be very very hard but is worth it in the long run. Gotta take what happiness you can out of life.

Now that I'm in Germany I am hoping to take advantage of that. Per my contract I get 30 work-days of vacation time a year. 6 weeks ain't bad.

After 3 years of covering Corbin I'm surprised the entire Utah based sports writing community doesn't suffer from PTSD.

Wherever he's going I hope he still gets to watch the games

I bet he'll watch the games. It would probably be nice for him to watch the games as a fan instead of for his job.

I'm 6'5" and I weighed 241 last July. Since then, I'm down 50 pounds and I can't believe how much better I feel. I didn't know I had 50 lbs to lose. I lost weight by stop eating sugar, eating less than 40 carbs a day and exercising at least 5 times a week. I hope he can get well soon, 371 lbs is a lot of weight on a 5'7" frame. He would lose 20 lbs just shaving that beard off.

I've given Jody **** on here before, and even started a thread in which he responded in. I am praying for him and wish he and his family nothing but health and happiness. That was a very courageous column he wrote. I sometimes think I spend too much time "connected" be it on my phone or on a computer and lose sight of life around me. Luckily I am not struggling with much of what he wrote he is writing about, and I can't grow a beard, but my heart definitely feels for him. Jody, if you're reading this, I hope you get things back on track to where you and your loved ones are at peace with it and then return to giving us crappy Jazz related jokes :)

Dude is being honest with himself. I respect that and wish him well, and hope he finds the change he is looking for.
