The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Well I know some people think that voting 3rd party actually helps to rid is of a 2 party system in the future (I agree)

I would also say that voting Democrat, even living in Utah, could have an effect on the way the elections work in the future.

Let's say Trump wins the nomination again. But loses the popular vote again. I could see people trying to change the electoral college if the losing president wins the popular vote enough times.

At a minimum it gives the electoral college and the whole election process a black eye.

The EC isn’t going anywhere even with third party votes. You’ll need 2/3rds of Congress or 2/3rds of the states to do it. Republicans won’t ever agree to this because it’s the only thing keeping them in power.

Once again, voting democrats gives you the best chance to do this as democrats already want to get rid of the EC. Give them the senate and they just might. They’ll need 2/3rds or the senate, so I don’t think that’s even possible this cycle.

I'm going to reply every time I notice you saying that voting third party is "throwing their votes away", because you are just flat out wrong on this. And its insulting to those of us who voted third party last election, and who might be voting third party again this election (for me it'll depend who the Democrats nominate; there are some I would vote for and some I would not).

Thinking your individual vote does ANYTHING at all to sway the election is asinine. (Do you like it when I say insulting things about your point of view?)

And I’ll continue to make posts mocking those who throw away their votes for third party candidates who they probably agree even less with democrats all because the democrats don’t give them 100 percent of what they want.

There are bigger issues than abortion.

Serious question: Why do you even vote if you feel like your vote is pointless/worthless?

Why do you vote? Same answer, probably. I'm guessing you don't vote because you think your individual vote will make any difference at all.

If the bolded section were true, then perhaps your mocking would be appropriate. But it's not.

With Hurd retiring and Mia Love defeated last fall, I don’t think the republicans have a single African American in the House or Senate anymore.

Something I’m sure some media outlets/pundits will blame the democrats for.

Exactly. I don't vote. As long as the electoral college is in place.

Except when I see something that is as big as Trump being our president. Then I feel I at least have to do what I can, even if it doesn't matter and is mostly symbolic, to stop the son of a bitch.

I find it strange that you (and others) can't get behind that message.

May we all have this much courage...

Thank you Nikki, for really sticking your neck out...

This is what happens when you despise Donald, lack guts, and love the judges and tax cuts.

OK, going back a step to answer your question. I vote because I see it as a civic duty. I vote in order to honor those who have died in order to provide this right to me. I vote because I believe that there's a moral responsibility to act in such a way that if everyone acted like you the world would be a good place. I vote to "do what I can", as you nicely put it. I vote in order to make a "symbolic point" (as you nicely put it) about who I support and who I don't, even though I recognize my vote cannot possibly change the outcome. (And for what it's worth, the "my vote cannot possibly change the outcome" point is completely true regardless of electoral college or not.) I vote so I can tell others that voting is important and not be a hypocrite.

And, by the way, just to point out the obvious--every single one of those reasons applies equally for a third party vote like I did last election, as it would for a vote for one of the two major parties.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this one Colton.
I think that each vote can make a difference cause each vote can add to another vote making many many votes which does make a difference.

If I convinced you to vote against Trump (vote Democrat) and I convinced others and you convinced some people and this was happening all across the country then a ******** of votes that would have gone to a 3rd party could actually end up keeping Trump from winning again.

Yeah, I saw a bunch of anti Trump conservatives I follow on Twitter applaud her comment, in all seriousness. My reaction was more like yours. Is there any way she could have expressed distaste any more mildly than that?

I feel that a weak response like Nikki gave is worse than a nonresponse. You know? Because it shows to me at least on some level she recognizes that what he’s doing is deplorable yet she lacks the courage to call it out. What do you think?

I disagree. Saying she felt bad for Cummings, or something like that, would be not calling it out at all. She is weakly calling Trump out.

And Hurd was, from what I know, a pretty moderate republican with a national security background. He actually seemed like a fairly experienced and intelligent politician with an impressive background.
Moderate Republicans can see the writing on the wall for where the party is headed and want no part of it.
