I do listen to Bloomberg podcasts, so if you want to rudely dismiss my points by implying that I am parroting the media, you might want to start there.

Thanks for your explanation on figurative language. I had not never heard of this concept. My whole life, I’ve been assuming everything i read is the literal truth.

And here is the thing about archetypes. They have to exist somewhere outside of your head, or your readers may believe that CNN means “CNN”. Literally.

Both Rep. Schiff, of House Intelligence, and Sen. Warner, of Senate Intelligence, understand the devastating blow these twin departures represent. And Republicans understand full well that Trump is making every effort to cripple the Intelligence agencies, and make them compliant to him, rather then offer him truthful analysis. So, the question will be: will the Republican senate confirm a new DNI who is nothing but another Trump yes man? From what I understand, listening to the news regarding Gordon's departure, if she stayed in her job as Assistant DNI, the law required that Trump elevate her to DNI. Therefore, we can be certain Trump forced her resignation.

Again, it will be up to Senate Republicans to decide if they will allow Trump to appoint a lackey Trump loyalist to be the DNI. Trump's pick for Acting DNI is experienced in Intelligence, but not to the extent of Gordon.

Bottom line: Trump is putting his needs above the national security of the United States. No wonder Rep. Nadler indicated yesterday an Impeachment inquiry is now open to address Trump's efforts to aggrandize power in the Executive branch, unto himself, ignore checks and balances, and the Constitutionally granted power of oversight of the Executive by Congress, etc. But, IMO, putting the needs of our national security secondary to his personal political interests should itself be an impeachable offense.

How do Trump supporters justify a president who puts his personal ambitions above the national security interests of their country? How?
 
Yesterday, both Sen. Sherrod Bown and Dayton, Ohio Mayor Nan Whaley characterized Trump the same way I've been characterizing him for quite awhile now, because I think it cuts to the heart of the matter: Trump is a bully, and all bullies are cowards:

And conservative icon George Will, who left the Republican Party over Trump, made the same general point, in a recent column, by highlighting a quote attributed to Eric Hoffer:

Trump is asking people to be different now, and nobody can really change their spots. Almost everyone who takes a position with Trump gets sacked by CNN, personally attacked, and most just roll over for the Establishment.

There are no human beings who can actually function in any kind of Trump assignment with the negative press we have now. When Trump sees his people gunned down, figuratively "dead on the job", having been mowed down by a barrage of negative press articles, he just has to move them off the battlefield.

Of course, I know nothing about Washington DC. I hardly know how my cows are doing on the North Forty. There was a nice thunderstorm today, and I cleared a firebreak in the dry grass on the south side of my house. While I was out there, lightning struck within forty yards of me, but the dry grass had already been rained on, so it didn't catch fire today. A few days ago, I met with the Nevada State Fire Marshall. He asked about the fire in the next valley, and told me one of his men was life flighted that day. Explosive fire weather. A lot of grass is now so dry a fire can advance practically at a hundred miles an hour. You can't outrun that. And the wind can change direction instantly.

The anti-Trump insanity is a national wildfire. Nobody who will work for Trump is gonna survive the fire. So, actually, our press is burning the national house down rather than let an outsider run the government for a few years.

I'm curious if any of the Trump true believers are going to chime in a defend the photo op.

This is beyond tone deaf, it is tone dead.

Imagine if the person you loved more than anything else in the world is killed. And the President arrives and gives a big smile and a thumbs up sign.

Step up and defend, and tell us if it was your spouse/ child/ parent/ best friend, that you would be pleased with these images.

well, so true. But just where the disagreements are on minor themes of importance within the same generic world view, like whether a better world would still have choices about yogurt flavors. You really don't do much tolerance of conservatives.

sil, I think I've goaded you about this before, and you are so certain you are firing on all cylinders intellectually I'm sure it's as useless to try again as it is to try with Game.

Looks to me like you would think Trump was terrible if he were in sack cloth and ashes, with tears on his cheeks and saying "It's all my fault".

Yov've lost your bearings in your hate for Trump, like Colton has. Pretty sad, really.

Most people, even grieving parents, will cooperate with the photographer when he says "smile". It has nothing to do with the situation, the context, or with his beliefs or bearings politically.

I think we're just expecting him to show support for the people there and behave like a normal ****ing person for two hours out of his life.
