Seriously guys, did you ever think cheering for OTHER teams to get better would be this much fun?
I'm in the plants nursery business.
And what most people don't know is -
for potted plants - you need to take the plant out of the pot, and chop off about 1/2 of the root ball, and put new potting mix in, for the plants to be healthy. You need to do this once every 1-2 years, depending on what type of plant it is and the size pot (the smaller the pot, the more often you need to do this).
When I tell my customers this they were all surprised: "Is it really OK to chop off the roots?????!! Are you sure it's not going to KILL THEM???!!!!!!"
OH yes definitely - you need to do it to encourage new root growth.
========================================
I believe this is effectively what we're currently doing with our team - you need to chop off old rots - to encourage the growth of younger, more healthy roots. If you notice, teams like OKC does this every 1-2 years as well - they do everything they can to continually bring in young, promising players (Jeremy Lamb, PJIII, Adams...).
We're doing something similar by shooting for top #10 pick in the '14 draft, and collecting picks stretching out to '17.
It's science. It's nature. It's life.
