**** THE OFFICIAL: Why Jazz Fanz should be EXCITED thread ****

Atlanta adding Ellis would be great. It certainly guarantees they'll be better than us with Millsap, Horford etc.

I really hope Dallas signs on Bynum and he stays relatively healthy. That's one more team that could pass GS in the standings.

Another reason to be excited: with all our acquired draft picks, the draft threads will never end :)

I'm more in love with the FO by the hour....

Was just thinking.. not only do we get to see our young guys play big minutes.. and not only are we likely destined to add another great young player in the '14 draft.. and not only will we have tons of cap space again next year... but the FA crop next year is a monster.

The FO has this year to evaluate the players of the future and the money to fill holes. This year will be a blast.. next year could be surprisingly good.

We're going to make a Golden State-like jump in 2014/15. I guarantee it!

I agree. Lindsey is playing chess with a bunch of checkers loving GMs. So many different reasons to have hope. To me I think that this gathering of multiple picks over the next 5 years is towards one end. The 2014 draft. Yes people will be hesitant to trade out of that draft but what can a package of one of the C5 (depending on their evaluation this season), 2-3 first rounders (2-2014 & 1-2017) and up to 4 second rounders get? I think it is a major haul.

Make an offer that they can't refuse and in the mean time Utah lands their player and becomes a power house again.

This. There is going to be a really bad team that needs a lot more than just one player and the Jazz will become the perfect trade partner with them to add multiple good players.

The biggest questionmarks are: Will Enes emerge this season in a way that he can lure potential FAs to Utah? Last seasons have shown that lead player building a relationship on a personal level is key for recruitment.
If not Enes will be one of the highly praised rookies(Wiggins, Parker) a reason for other FAs to join the Jazz before they played the first minute.

But these questionmarks are also good opportunities as the Cap won't be screwed either way. If you miss out on FAs you can still preserve enough cap for '15. If Favors develops reasonably he'll be in charge of a 40M 4yr contract starting at 9M. Hayward right now looks like a 4y 32M contract at best. He'll be 24 next year. That would start around 7.2M. So you get 16.2 extra on the books to the existing 17 they have on the books. That would be 33.2 long term money. If you fill out the roster with 1 yr contracts you have a 2015 situation of:
Enes QO is 7.5 , Burks QO is 4.2, Trey is getting 2.7 and Gobert 1.2. I assume 7.7 for Hayward and 9.7 for Favors. That adds up to 33M plus the draft picks and long term money that is getting added next year. So even with a #1 pick being paid 5.6M and a low first rounder worth similar to Goberts number you'd have 18M in cap space in case that the cap stays at 58M. 18M is a max contract for a 7-9 year veteran on the pay scale. So for example a healthy but disgruntled Kevin Love who has already shown that he's all about winning could join the Jazz in 2015 after the TWolves fall apart.
There would be a couple of good options there: If Trey doesn't pan out there's a solid Playmaker like Goran Dragic available for reasonable money! Or Rajon Rondo in case the Jazz have enough Shooter to maintain spacing.
There's solid shooting guards out there...Danny Green will expire. Often injured Eric Gordon has a player option.Arron Afflalo has a player option and Matthews and Thornton will be both unrestricted.
On SF Jeff Green has a Player Option but who needs a free agent SF when you have either Wiggins or Parker!
Joining aforementioned KLove are Aldridge, Millsap, West and Boozer though they are prolly all too old by then to join a core of 24 year olds highlighted by a 20 year old superstar. KLove at 27 would fit right in as the veteran star besides youngstar from 2014.
Brook Lopez and Hibbert have a player option whilst Omer Asik, DeAndre Jordan, Tyson Chandler and Mark Gasol will be unrestricted. If the Center grooming doesn't work most will be on the wrong side of 30 and may be willing to take a reasonable salary to be a defensive anchor in order to compete. Oh and the Bobcats/future Hornets have a team option on Big AL. Buyers beware...

Just wanted to add 2015 as I think it's a more realistic scenario than Enes and Favors emerging as superstars this season. MIP for Enes is a more reasonable dream.

But I love your Free Agency thought!

The '14 draft and next year's FA...... yikes we could get forreal.

Yup. Use their assets to get into the top 10 of the draft (if they don't get there on record alone) and spend some of the 31 million they have on bringing in some quality players and suddenly Utah is making noise again.
