The problem I have with tonights loss

CJ guarding Odom. Wow. That was ridiculous, and should NEVER have happened. What was Corbin thinking there?
Carlisle was thinking that he has two hybrid forwards that he can use to exploit matchups with. The whole problem last night was that Carlisle knew that the Jazz had no real SFs and played quasi-PFs against them and that Corbin didn't adapt and play Millsap as a 3 (since that would've been his only option to slow them down).

To those saying play Millsap at the 3 was an answer I just wanted to point out in the very limited minutes Marion or Odom was matched up on Millsap, Millsap didn't play well from what I saw offensively or defensively. Maybe if given a larger sample it would've been different but it didn't look good IMO on the limited time I saw them matched up.

Millsap not fast enough to guard Odom? Kidding right?

No. I don't get to watch much, but I saw plenty of Millsap trying to guard Odom when we played the Lakers in the playoffs. Odom can't post up Millsap, but Millsap can't keep up with Odom.

Marion is one of the better around the rim SF's in the league. He was able to score on and defend Lebron James perfectly last year. Far from washed up. He may not have the high paced Steve Nash infused offense to help him stat pad anymore, but the guy can score.

Actually, you should be OK with Marion getting 22 pts when CJ comes off the bench to chip in 17, and more importantly when you hold Nowitzki to 12pts and get him mentally out of the game. The Jazz played very well in 2nd half.

IMO, the biggest problems were
- Mavs gave the Jazz good looks outside and inconsistent, but bad shooting from guards, led by DHarris costed us big time.
- Mavs tried anything possible to make it hard for Paul to earn buckets and the Jazz could not create room for Paul to dictate the offense in painted area by hitting a couple of Js to punish defensive assignments nearly all of which was centered on not allowing Millsap to score easily.

Also, I think that not being able to convert on jumpers after double teams to Paul and BigAl resulting in inefficient offensive production led to a defensive meltdown. We had not seen that recently.

marion is a former all-star, he is not as good as he used to be; but he's going to get his from time to time. That's why he was the starting sf for the nba champions last year.

yeah and he's only starting because they don't have butler anymore nor any other better options

beaubois or whatever the **** his name is finished with 17 - about a point a minute. Many of them were easy buckets off on defensive breakdowns in the backcourt

at least this kid is a young up and commer whereas marion was in his prime when stockton and malone were still playing at a high level... Sorry, but inexcusable to give this guy 20+ points!

last night was a veteran team taking advantage of a young team. We used to see it the other way around all the time in the late 90's with stockton and malone.

but do you ever recall chris morris going off for about 22 while malone and stockton were left in check?? No this is on our sf for dropping the ball against this has been on defense...

it's gonna happen - get used to it.

it shouldn't happen... Period!

Maybe he doubled off his man too much, not sure...
The whole team has to be aware that you can't let Marion and Terry get open.
You are better off letting Dirk and Kidd shoot jumpers than giving terry and Marion the shots they got at the end.

Don't mean to be smarmy here... But... HUH?? If Marion beat us taking perimeter jumpers, that's okay with me, it was the letting him drive to the basket that bothered the **** out of me!

marion is still a fine player.

yeah in 2000!!

the real issue is getting absolutely nothing out of our starting pg. Especially when matched up against a 50 year old... You mean to tell me that one of the fastest players in the league couldn't get one fg against jason kidd????? Come on!

can't disagree with this... Harris did stink it up and deserves a lot of the blame...

marion is a former allstar that still plays smart.

former being the operative word... I don't care how smart you play when you're older than mud and should have been out of the league 2-3 years ago!

strange that he goes off on us after doing nothing this season.

you see my point... After doing nothing this season! You can make excuses for our sf lack of defense all you want, but this guy is too old to put up numbers like that against our young guys!

i haven't seen enough games to be sure why.

maybe because he stinks and only our sf make him look like an all-star??

i suspect you want to put a bigger player on him, and be sure to stay with him.
He's a crafty player, and a pf sf tweener.

no, i want somebody to get in his way, run him in transition and wear him out! Hell, that's what sac used to do to stockton and malone in their latter years and their tongues would be hanging out by the end of the half... But no, we have timid ******* that can't man up and make the guy play

i would have considered putting favors on him, but oh yea, favors got thrown out.

that matchup might have worked...

dallas has good shooters all around, they work to get open shots, you've got to stay on them.

marion has never been a consistent shooter, he's always been known for his defense and versatility, not his dwight howard like play last night in the post...
