What's new

The pundits don't understand the reason Westbrook

Westbrook is criminally overrated, and has been for years, if you dont understand why you probably don't have the best grasp on the duties of a PG, the most complex position in the game, he's supposed to be an extension of the coach, instead hes out there making everyone look stupid, and has been for years...... He's never been better than Chris Paul... His stats are inflated, his MVP isn't legit IMO --- Clearly Harden was the MVP last season too, if Valuable is truly the operative word. What is Westbrook valuable to in the scope of the western conference? he's valuable at carrying teams to slightly over .500 records in the regular season, and then not much else, what HArden does and did for Houston islike way better, he gives them a chance to compete, OKC/Westbrook is the captian of a ship called the pretender.

I've watched his career closely since UCLA, when he was considered a defensive player. He's shown tremendous growth, he doesn't play up to his potential though. He's a try-hard in a game/position that requires grace.

To me he plays an ignorant brand of ball.. He had the greatest scoring SF in NBA history Kevin Durant on his team and would freeze him out for long stretches regularly, he'll always be a fool in my mind for that.

He's not nearly as good as Oscar Robertson was either in his era, the fact that the media tries to pair them up like that is absurd. A player Rubio's caliber woudlve NEVER shown Oscar up like that in a 1st rd playoff series, NEVER...

Russ gets too much credit for some type of mindset.... There's a great Mike Tyson quote "Everybody has a plan til they get punched in the mouth" and its a fitting description of Russ's game IMO, in the scope of todays NBA/Western conference, Rubio and the Jazz are the ones punching him in the mouth and its glorious basketball to watch.

Russ is an Al Jefferson or Carmelo Anthony type of figure in my mind, one of the grandest. He plays a stat-padding regular season brand of ball.

Steph Curry is way better than him too. Kyrie.. He's really not even much better than John Wall, OKC would be way better with Wall tbh...

Westbrook is like my all time least favorite player to win the MVP...

All that being said, it's not all on him, he's been enabled by an incompetent front office... classic case of creating a monster and then it spinning out of control..

He's not even worth what they pay him.. how could the MVP be overpaid.. James Harden is so much better its insane.. If u watch OKC for years, clearly he's padding those rebounding stats, i dont respect that ****, if i was coaching i'd tell him to leak out and use that athletecism in transition and get some bigs who throw good outlet passes, and if he continued to pad his rebounding stats i''d resign and call him out in the presser..

I’d take Russ over Durant and Harden... at least as far as toughness. He needs a better anchor. More of like a Snyder. It’s like an Artest or Rodman.

lol i remember back when okc led 3-1 vs the warriors, and I thought it was a done-deal. My friend sent me a message, "dont under-estimate the stupidity of westbrook" low and behold, thunder blow a 3-1 lead.

Been saying all along, jazz gonna grind the **** outta these guys and wear em down.

all it takes is one big brody game and this thread looks bad ... lets not count our chickens. do agree that PG13 is leaving, even if they win the series tho

It was funny. We were watching the game with my neighbors and there came a point in the 4th quarter where it looked like the Jazz were playing sloppy and the Thunder might make a run. . . but the body language of the OKC players was terrible.

It was obvious that they were beaten and there was no comeback coming. I told everyone who was watching the game that it was over. The Thunder has quit. Sure enough, the Jazz went on a run and OKC started pulling their stars. It was a beautiful moment.

Yes! I saw this happen in the arena. You could tell in the fourth when they gave up, and there was still like eight minutes left. I started celebrating in my seat right then. I knew it was over.

I read this and realized how stupid it sounds. But really I only had the order reversed. If OKC takes game 4 (please no), then the Jazz need to win one in OKC, then one in SLC.

Jazz please just win game 4. Please!

Three in a row is as tall an order as two on the road, imo.

This tells me OKC is done.

"We’ve just got to take what is given,” Westbrook said. “I was getting myself in trouble, jumping in the air, trying to get the ball to Melo and other guys on the floor. I’ve just got to stay in attack mode, read my first option and go"

There is blame in that statement. There is hero mode engaged in that statement.

I hope the Jazz understand that statement, if they do they will flat out embarrass OKC in game 4. If they don't they will need to win again at home and again at OKC.

Super game plan against the Jazz -- just dive in with the first thing that comes to mind and ignore options 2 and 3. Yeah, no way in hell the Jazz will be able to defend against THAT.

Paul George is GONE. He’s already checking out and thinking about free agency. Jazz finish out this series, it’ll be the second year in a row that they’ve overcome a 4/5 series and significantly contributed to a star player leaving in the the offseason.

Wonder what it would take to sign Paul George? He has to think we're a good well coached team on the rise now.

They’d have to gut the team to fit him under the cap. For that amount of cash, cap and assets I’d much rather the Jazz pursue Jimmy Butler. Think he’d be marvelous on this team.

He's a hero alright, a hero who chased Harden and KD out of OKC. Presti was dumb not to get rid of him instead of Harden because it would've been a dynasty like none seen in the NBA since the 1960s Celtics.
I don't know about that dynasty. They've never really played all that much like a team or had a coach worth a damn. I agree that of Harden and Westbrook, Westbrook should've gone, but the most absurd thing about what happened with Harden was that ownership didn't want to amnesty Kendrick Perkins.

Clay Bennett is such a dumb **** AND reeking sack of ****.

Paul George could offer to come here for the vet min and I wouldn’t touch him.

It’s Gobert’s and Donovan’s team. Snyder is the coach.

George is a gigantic ego who offers zero for team chemistry. He’s too good to be coached. Remember when he pouted last year after CJ Miles failed to pass him the ball to take the last shot? You don’t ever show up your teammates like that.

Team chemistry means something. I’ll take Jingles over George for this jazz team.

OKC’s offense has always been stagnant and unwatchable. Even when brooks was their coach. They don’t run any plays. Harden, KD, and Russ just took turns going one on one. Now it’s pushoff P, Melo, and Russ. Different coach and cast, same plan.

I agree with everyone who commented about Westbrook being overrated. However, I take issue with the idea that OKC wouldn't have been a different team if they kept Harden instead of Westbrook. If you recall when they went to the finals when Harden was on the team, they were much better, and that was when Harden was just beginning to develop. Imagine what they would've been like with the Harden of the last two years and KD as his sidekick, plus they traded Obaka, which probably wouldn't have happened either. No, I really believe they had the makings of a dynasty there and they blew it because of Westbrook.

Good points and I’m a pass on PG. as I mentioned before, the public CJ comments were kinda the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.

I’m baffled by this post juxtaposed with your endorsement of Swaggy P a month or two back, though.

I suspect a lot of the Jazz's game plan for 4 is to ground and pound. Utah has a better bench than OKC and will probably use that to beat up on Westbrook and PG. Physical D, screens, and make them run. They'll continue to run at Adams to exploit their lack of depth. More or less, they will dare Westbrook to go into Hero mode.
