The Purple and Blues Mailbag

There is nothing WRONG with it. But if a stranger unpromptedly told you to send them your questions, it is fair for you to wonder why you should care about their answers. And I'm afraid "because I write on a blog" is not a good response. He should either have a press-like connection to the Jazz, or provide examples of his writing that show superior insight and analysis.

Also keep in mind that aside form Cunning Linguist's unnecessary tirade, we were all being playful. I actually looked at Greg Foster's blog. He's all right.

I really can't understand why Siro's position on this topic is apparently so difficult to grasp. It's a good position.

Also, Greg's 1-2-3 reply was ****ing stupid and hilarious. That's obvious to me, at least.

Dude, I am 1) a professional writer, 2) a very good researcher, and 3) a lifelong Jazz fan, but what I don't have is special access or insight to the Jazz organization, so I do not present myself as someone who will provide professional insight on this topic. My professional writing is reserved for a completely different area where I do have insight that is not necessarily available to everyone.

It's laughable that when I ask what the OPs credentials are that people like you jump in and suggest that asking for information like that is somehow wrong.

What do you write?

And what's wrong with that? Wading through the garbage on this site (i.e. posts attacking others), we occasionally find some really good stuff, whether it's you, GVC, Dr. Jones, franklin, PG_AB or a few others - and sorry if I didn't call someone out specifically by name - posts that have some decent research or insight behind them. A lot of bloggers don't have inside access to anyone in the Jazz organization. But that doesn't mean they can't write great articles. Let's give the OP a chance. Maybe his research and writing style will result in some great articles. Or perhaps not. But I think anyone that wants to put themselves out there for public scrutiny has some really big (basket)balls.

GVC would be great...if he didn't always post like he had a stick up his *** and hates the world.

Greg and his buddy's over at Fansided mostly just rewrite Jazzfanz posts and other websites articles. The only reason he started a thread is because it has been slow around here lately and he needs to drum up something to write. He wasn't being friendly, he was being a vulture. Replacing journalists with bloggers is perhaps the worst thing to happen during this generation.

guis,

please feel free to send me questions about digestion. I can answer your questions because

1) I can string words together into competent-sounding sentences. Occasionally I get paid for these sentences and buy some ramen noodles.
2) I know how to use google, twitter, and facebook
3) I've been pooping all my life. When things are going well in professional life, I poop ramen... which, incidentally, doesn't appear to be good for digestion.

Got it. Next time you jump on Jazzfanz and post your opinion I would like to start seeing some credentials first. Starting with this topic. Where are your credentials? You can't just be answering questions all willy nilly around here.

Isn't it essentially the same thing? Greg claims he can answer questions. You force your answers on everyone assuming you are qualified to answer questions. At least he's being polite about it.

I'm not sure if you're really this thick, or if it's some kind of "message board warrior" act. Either way, you're not worth responding to, so I'll just ignore you from now on.

I'm sorry Siro. Don't be mad at me. I hate it when you get mad.

I know Greg personally, so I take exception to this. You are assuming far too much.

Who is best qb @ BYU?

Ha! Ha! The one who can stay healthy for more than one game? Or the one who can actually win brcause they're good and not just by blind luck? the answer is: None of the above.

I answered that one for you. Your welcome Greg.

I would like to offer my friends on Jazzfanz another option.

1. I too am a professional writer. Well, semi-professional. If I exchange money with the editor, sometimes my articles get printed. Sometimes, more unsavory favors are expected, but writers need to put food on the table, and pride will only get in the way.

2. I have been a Jazz Fan since March, 2015, and I can spell all the names of the players.

3. I will be able to answer any question you have by bringing everything back to the fact that Bryce Cotton is the greatest player ever to wear a Jazz uniform. I have developed many offensive sets in which it will be Bryce vs. 5 guys. That's right, one on five. Bryce is extremely versatile and there will be many games where nobody else will leave the bench. Nobody will be more rested come the playoffs then our beloved Jazz. Remember, you heard it here first.

Dear Greg.

How come BYU has has players wearing the same number?

TIA

I got this one, Greg. Most college teams have to do this to avoid having guys with three digits on their jerseys (which, according to my extensive research, is not allowed).

You had me all the way up until the bolded word.

You guys are a tough crowd. I agree with Hack. The guy is looking for some questions for his mailbag. I really do not care about his credentials. Unless it is coming from DL, Snider, or someone high in the organization I will view it as someone's opinion. I love listening to Locke. He has a lot of inside connection, but to me all he talks about is his opinion. Some I agree with and learn from, some I don't.

Im with ya

I asked the guys credentials in a teasing way and it sort of spun out of control from there. That wasn't my intent, but oh well. Hopefully he has thick enough skin to take it. If he doesn't then my advice is that a career as a writer is not for him.

This. The whole thing started out in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way. It was a legitimate, but ultimately unimportant, objection. It's unfortunate that a few decided to take it to the next level.
