What's new

The refs were cowards

I understand your point of view. I really would rather be diplomatic. However, pro sports is a different world. Its a bit like when Ostertag was slapped at a practice in LA. Kobe i think. And skulked away like a whipped puppy. He lost respect in just about everyone's eyes. In the real world or a perfect world his lack of reaction may even of been admirable. But not in that circumstance ! Favors will learn to maintain his cool after stuff like this happens. That's why i approve heartily of Earl's (attempted) retaliation.
It was Shaq. Following their '97 playoff series (in which Tag played quite well) Ostertag was asked to compare Shaq to Hakeem and he said Hakeem's a "classier guy" and that "Nobody thinks I've done anything all year, especialy Shaq. Bu I guess that's why he's playing golf and I'm going to the Western Conference Finals."
Very few people actually saw what happened the next season during shootaround but according to Shaq he told Ostertag to watch his mouth, ect...and Ostertag said FU so Shaq smacked him upside the head. Instead of fighting Tag looked for his contact lense which was knocked out while O'Neal was ushered away by his teammates. I will say that by the end of his career - while Ostertag would never be confused as a Sloan or Artest-type competitor - he rarely backed away from a confrontation and I saw him go after it with a bunch of players such as Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Vlade Divac, and Doug Christie.

Last night could've been the first time Favors was even in that siutation of being disrespected on the basketball court. Just because Favors didn't respond once, doesn't mean he won't learn what he has to do. Heck, afterward Charles Barkley called him out and said if he's ever going to be a player in the league he can't have his PG standing up for him. That sort of stuff could fuel Favors in the future even more than had he responded to Dirk. Just another fun thing to watch as Favors and this Jazz team grow up.

I think that what Watson did was a huge message, and could really go a long way towards him being the accepted leader on the Jazz. Players remember things like that.

Reminded me of a game once where a BYU player was elbowed in the face. The player kind of staggered, and Todd Christiansen, a little point guard yelled at the ref who was right there watching, but the ref did nothing, so Todd ran straight to the elbower and planted his elbow right in that player's chin, hard.
The ref did nothing.

Sometimes, you gotta do things like that. And that kind of thing can bring a team together.

Charles mouths off too much. I like him a lot of the time because he is entertaining, but he also doesn't think before he talks, and he talks a lot.

I have been a huge fan of Chuck, and I kinda like Shaq, but after being reminded of Shaq's assault, and hearing Chuck's opinion regarding the favor's thing, and hearing Weber and all of them laugh about assaulting Stockton, and seeing all of them laughing about the Reggie Evans incident ripping at someone's privates, it seems that many NBA players are bullies who succeed because they are allowed to physically assault players who might otherwise beat them. I don't like this.

That is a crime.
It was !! Always a crime when the Strong abuse the weak. Which is exactly my point. Earl did not over-react, he simply responded in kind. The message: You cannot abuse your hosts in their own home without someone standing up to you. One of the reasons so many think Earl would make a great coach. The closest thing to violence was Dirk shoving Watson away afterwords. Sigh !

Football must really send you reeling Northeast. Yes, it was Shaq not Kobe, long term memory loss.

Neither do i and apparently neither does Earl. Although Dirk's ball slap was not an assault at all he was just......well.....Bullying. Sigh !

I am on a break, so I can not confirm or deny the validity of your statements.

Cool man. I am not trying to debate you on this subject out of meanness or arrogance, i think you must be a real nice person. Sports runs on effort and effort is fueled sometimes by emotion. Maybe we can both relax a bit. This is no big deal, really. Not like Kermit Washington/ Rudy Tomjanovich deal or something.
