That isn't the point. Boston needs us to facilitate the trade, to shed salary.
No they don't. There are undoubtedly other teams that they can use if they must.

No offense but you act they just want to give us Crowder for nothing out of the goodness of their hearts when that's never been the case. Much ado about nothing anyway, currently off the table and Ainge is contacting other trade partners as he felt he could get more than the Jazz were offering

The NBA needs to figure out some kind of compensation system similar to the NFL.
Any team who loses an All-Star player to UFA they should get back a first round draft pick. I would suggest it be the first pick after the lottery is over (the 15th pick).
How much better position of bargaining would the Jazz be if we had the guaranteed 15th pick in 2018 under our belt? It'd help teams rebuild who lost a major star, either quickly through trades or through the draft.
No its not. Haywards choice, I believe, had nothing to do with market size. Its just simply Utah is in the West and Boston wasn't.Agreed. As it is now, small markets are just farm systems for big markets or championship contenders.

Gawd it's hard to get on the same page with you. I'm just reflecting what every NBA analyst has been saying recently about free agency and the league.![]()
That's Cy for ya. For every great post he also has a needlessly argumentative one. He's a weird dude.
I kind of feel like we won't have any trouble extending Rodney Hood or Donovan Mitchell when the time comes. Also, think Rudy Gobert becomes our Dirk. Dude should play in Utah for his entire career. No its not. Haywards choice, I believe, had nothing to do with market size. Its just simply Utah is in the West and Boston wasn't.

Any time the value isn't clear there will be disagreement and that will cause some level of animosity.
Gobert was easy because he was clearly a max player. Everyone knew it and we treated him as such so he shows the loyalty back.
Maybe we get a deal w/ Hood. He strikes me as someone who is risk adverse, but what do you offer him? He has to see a huge opportunity in front of him to become a max player if he just stays healthy for a year as the #1 option. That just sounds like a recipe for a very difficult negotiation.
I would think Exum would be easier, but IDK. He is someone who could really get crunched by the shrinking FA money like we might potentially see this year.

So word comes out this morning that Haywood is willing to take less money so that Boston doesn't have to give up any assets.
I think that is the end of the sign and trade idea.
This thread is a perfect example of a poster who could learn to listen better to others, instead of making their mind up and blocking out common sense.
Also, them clearing the needed space gives Hayward nothing to hide behind. Either he and his agent really are willing to do a sign and trade and the Jazz give up a 2nd round pick and NWG or the rights to Tomic and get back one of the guys the Celtics were going to cut anyways and the trade exception. There's really no reason to not do the S&T unless he wants to look even more like a petty *******.I think this thread served a very good purpose because it focused better on the actual problems involved in the sign and trade while the other thread just became so convoluted it was hard to follow. Hard to believe that Hayward actually wants to take even less money, which if it is true, goes to show that he never intended to sign with us and it was all a big act. That surely reflects poorly on his integrity.
