What's new

The Serial Podcast

Well, we aren't in court, and we don't have to be technical. So we can go off our instincts a little more than usual. None of us are really ever gonna know.

Like I said, it fairly obvious that either Jay or Adnan or both were invloved. We can come to that conclusion because Jay admits as much. No one in there right mind is going to place themselves inside the story just because they feel like making up some crap. Either Jay did it, and he framed Adnan. Or Adnan did it. It's only two choices. With a small possibility that one or more of their friends were invloved also. Nevertheless, one or both was still involved. I think we can safely jump to that conclusion without feeling guilty about whether or not we are being fair. I think that removes a lot of doubt and questions about whether we are on the right trail.

We have two choices. It's either Jay or Adnan. You got a 50/50 shot at guessing which one it is. Everything points to Adnan. Yes, Jay is an idiot, and lied, a lot. Who cares. My instincts tell me it's Adnan. He can't remember where he was during the murder. The call to Nesha. The weird human behavior of not counter blaming Jay. Jay saying it was Adnan. Adnan's motive is simple, he's a butt hurt ex boyfriend, etc....
Ya, it's not exactly evidence. But do we really need a clear cut case to see what's going on here? Who cares that he is well spoken, a good football player, smart, charming, etc... That doesn't mean anything.

This all about the liberal movement to expose racial injustices in the court system. Which I'm all for. But at least pick cases that are actually injustices. Or at least appear to be. This case seems pretty simple imo. I don't know what everyone is so hung up on. Of course you are never going to get a perfectly painted picture when liars, manipulators, and idiots are involved in the story telling. Sometimes, if not most of the time, detectives in murder cases are going to be missing some of the evidence. You might not be able to directly link your suspect.

Maybe, a mistake was made in his conviction in that their technically wasn't enough evidence to convict, but I still think they got the right guy.

This is the part that gets me to conclude that it was Adnan as well. I just don't understand that any human being who is innocent and being fabricated by someone else for a murder would not fight harder to turn the table on the other person. Adnan did NOTHING that I know of to counter Jay's story or even to shift some burden of proof onto Jay. That to me is really puzzling.

The only real explanation for that is that the core of what Jay was telling was the truth. Therefore for me it's still Adnan.

Holy crap, you guys understand a couple of things, right?

A - Adnan has been in prison for 15 years. A lot of the fire you guys expect to come from him has been burnt out already.

B - There are tactical reasons concerning the appeal to not go around proposing alternate theories on a radio program.

C - This is an edited radio program. Sarah has presented that which furthers her narrative. We don't know what she didn't share.

Well we're all going off of all the info we have at hand. It would be good to have all the recorded interviews Sarah has with Adnan, but we don't have it.

Irregardlessly, Jay accused Adnan of MURDER, alternate theories or not I'm interested to know what Adnan did during the time of the trial to discredit / disprove Jay's story.

havent read dis thread. do yall think this is somethin i would enjoy? i love me some podcasts, always see dis 1 at #1. please advise. is it entertainin? i gots to have entertainment. i enjoy CSI and **** like that every now and then, but really i need some comedic relief and ****. breakin bad and game of thongs is about as serious as i like my entertainments.

A third option is Jay was forced by cops to blame it on Adnan and neither did it.

I see that as an actual option, although pretty unlikely.

Ritz, the lead detective, got in trouble a few years after this case for using a "2-step" interrogation process in which he pre-interrogates suspects and witnesses while not recording, then once they hash out the details he turns on the tape and they run back through the interrogation for the record. He would feed info to witnesses and then record them feeding it back.

Jays story doesn't make any sense.

There is one piece of info Jay provides that makes him special, the location of the car. That's all Jay has.

His timeline is impossible, all 4 of them.

I'm sorry. But it's just really hard to believe that this Jay guy was talked into fabricating the story. It's puts himself at too much risk of being charged with murder himself, and also being convicted of accomplish to murder. Plus, why would the cops be feeding him an ever changing story? So the cops can't keep their owners straight, they tell him to say different things each time? Why would the cops risk their own careers with this nonsense? Why wouldn't Jay say something to somebody?

It's much more believable that Jay did it and blamed it on Adnan. I can accept that. I believe it's one or the other. My guess it's Adnan. He's gotta do better than just playing dumb and not trying to defend himself. He chose not to take the stand. He chooses not to suggest it's Jay. He can't remember what he was doing that day He's just denying it. Breaking News, people lie about crimes all the time.

I like to listen to podcast a lot. If you like podcasts, you should try the app called stitcher. It's a great app for podcats.

Jay on his facebook 3-4 hours ago "For the followers of the serial podcast produced by Sarah Koenig: I will make my self available for one interview : 1st, to answer the question of the the people who I hope are concerned with the death of Hae Min Lee (the person who's paid the ultimate price for Entertainment). 2nd, to out this so called reporter for who she truly is."

As far as I know I DON'T like podcasts. I heard the first episode because I listen to This American Life pretty much every time I brew beer (during the mash, in particular) and one time they played this instead of their regular show. I liked it and kept listening and eventually donated $20 to the show in the hope that they'd make a second season.

I asked my sister if she'd been listening and she said she hadn't but had been told about it by a couple people. A few days later she said she had listened to the first 8 episodes and would love to get together and talk about the show.

It's good ****. 100% guaranteed.

Listened to the whole thing over the long Christmas break.

I'm about 70-80% that Adnan is guilty, but probably would have voted to acquit if I were on the jury.

I'd say I'm only 60-70% that he did it, but honestly I don't have a decent alternative theory.

I'll be interested to see where the stuff with the innocence project goes.

The podcast got me interested in having a life-sentence prisoner pen pal. I have no idea how to go about that, but I bet there's a website or something.
