What's new

The Thunder

I do like their formula, which seems unusual if not unique in the NBA. I compliment them having the courage to do things others are not trying.

....yeah, they've decided to take the hip hop out of hip hop basketball! But then, so did the Mav's last year!

There's an interesting "picture" thread on spurstalk highlighting 18 possessions where the Spurs didn't score not because OKC had some sort of secret, super awesome defense, but rather because the Spurs simply didn't pass to the open man and didn't take advantage of often times poor defense by OKC -

OKC didn't find some secret blueprint to beating the spurs in game 3. The Spurs, for whatever reason, just had an awful offensive outing. Not only did they flub up those 18 possessions (at minimum), they also had 21 turnovers and waved the "white flag" at the beginning of the 4th quarter when OKC's lead was still around 13-15, so the final score isn't really indicative of much.

OKC never waved the white flag in game 2 and yet they were still down by 22 at one point.

Huh. Very uncharacteristic from the Spurs. How many shot attempts did Bonner have that game? Like, I understand not giving him looks if he's 0/7 or something, but I mean if Bonner isn't shooting threes, he becomes a very useless player. He's probably one of the big reasons why the Spurs perennially pick us apart in the regular season in the second and fourth quarters. I'm aware that he doesn't have a superb playoff reputation, but ignoring wide open looks like that is just going to bog down your offense. But I mean hey, they won 20 in a row. If OKC wins again on Saturday, then I'd begin to worry if I were you (are you timvp from ST?)

Nah, I'm another poster from spurstalk ("ST" = spurstalk, dmvp is one of my screen names, albeit not the on I use on ST).

Thanks for clearing that up.

I thought it was weird that you were a fan of sexually transmitted diseases. I was gonna ask you which was your favorite.

I suppose I gotta go with the "mvp" of all "STd's" - genital herpes (HSV1 or HSV2), the most common STD in the U.S.

look about as good as us against the Spurs.

Well, so much for that.

As good as the Spurs are, the Thunder are an elite team as well. Utah is nowhere close to either one of these teams, and no amount of playoff asskickings will solve the root of the problem causing the gap.

Al Jefferson?

He's the biggest part, but I'm not blaming everthing on Al. When all is said and done, I think Jazz fans will look back on this year as the year our FO should have bitten the bullet and accepted a year of rebuilding. Trying to skip the rebuilding will likely just result in keeping us stuck on the mediocrity treadmill for several years.

OKC will be lucky to win 1 game. They won't win 2.

Well, at least you were right about the not winning 2 part.;)

Thunder proved that if you take pick-n-roll from Spurs they lose their god-like status and their age will kick in. If you take a careful look at their offense they don't have much to offer outside of couple of variations of pick-n-roll and pick-n-pop depending on who is involved. Get physical with them and stay physical regardless of what refs call and suddenly Duncan is no longer intimidating in iso.
Obviously, some stars on the roster help getting calls as well.

Hmmmm, OKC now up 3-2. I don't remember the Jazz doing this.

I like the Spurs and Pops but I am ready to see someone else go for the ring. Go Thunder.

They're playing the Spurs better, but they're still outclassed. And the Spurs looked very much on cruise control for this game. OKC will be lucky to win 1 game. They won't win 2.

BillyShelby wrong once again despite his smugness.

What did you Spurs fans expect? This is what always eventually happens when non-talent meets talent. Spurs had a lucky Cinderella run and now it's over. Boo Hoo. We all know what comes next for that franchise--time to tank another season and hope to catch David Stern's balls.

Can it be considered a "Cinderella Run" when they had the best record in the NBA?

1. They had the easiest schedule in the league.
2. Shortened and compressed seasons favor veteran teams who've been running the same system for a decade. Stern gift wrapped San Antonio Wheelchairs a built in handicap.
3. STFU Spurs fans, you're sounding sad.
4. Look at what old Boston is doing. Same thing. A washed up group of scrubs all come together for one final glory run. Cute, but Boston's will be short lived too.
5. Ginobili is done too, but he had a couple throw back games. Spurs won both those games... and then Ginobili disappeared as he has done all season long. So he gets depression and tries to solve that by ball hogging game five. Didn't work so well.
6. Ginobili and Ray Allen need to hit Duncan's Dominican beach and cry into some margaritas together.
7. Popavich choked at home in game five. Best. Coach. Evar.

But you said they lost to a team with more talent. How can that be on the coach choking? Yes, he may be the best coach ever. Above you said the Spurs were non-talent yet they had the best record and won 20 in a row. And yet the coach is over-rated? LMAO

I agree that the Spurs on running fumes, Duncan and Ginobli aren't what they once were and OKC is the young talent. And the talent is coming to the fore. In a longer series it usually will. Now lets see if they can finish.
