What's new

The Utah Jazz have become a joke

Do most Jazzfanz realize that if the Jazz end up with the 6th pick or worse, there is a really good chance we are worse next year?
Do you realize that even if we get the 1st pick we may be worse next year? We are losing Jefferson and maybe Marvin. A rookie coming in is going to struggle. We will lose experienced players and probably have a new coaching staff. I don't expect us to be worse even If we lose both Marvin and Jefferson but we could struggle without Marvin. Jefferson leaving is no big deal but without replacing his depth we could still be bad.
.
Anybody who thinks/thought this was a 1 year rebuild was fooling themselves.

How can we end up worse? We are a very young team. If only half of our players continue to develop then we are still better.
You say that we could get worse with the 6th pick and 20mill to pick up free agents?

I guarantee we are better next year.

We will probably re sign marv, and we will uprade jeffy plus have 2 picks in a loaded draft, plus neto upgrade to lucas the third plus we have a good amount of money to spend on free agents plus a better coach.

Even without an upgrade at coach we will be better no doubt..... plus we probably wont start off 1-14

We will be better if we don't have Corbin. But we will be younger next year. We will have a rookie playing big minutes (we better have) and we will not have some of the players now that are playing decent minutes. We have not put our future core into positions this year to grow together. They are going to have to learn that next year, hopefully with a new coach.
.
Fish our record may be better but does that mean the team is better? We have been average this year without injuries. So to be better we'd need to be better than average. I don't envision this team making the playoffs next year. I hope they are more competitive and that they do go out and get a bench to push for the playoffs.
.
All that said there is a decent chance that we are a worse team next year. I don't think so and I hope not (just getting a new coach will make me believe that it's not possible). But if we lose Hayward, Jefferson and Marvin we will be worse. If we re-sign Hayward and Marvin I see it as very unlikely we get worse.
.
1 top 5 pick is not really going to change our outcome next year. That was the point of my response to green

I think it depends on the pick, and how the Jazz view that pick. If they get Exum, or Parker or someone they think will be the future of the Jazz, then I think we make the playoffs next year. I think they go out and load up on good vets, put quality players 9 deep and end up around 5 or 6.

If the Jazz take someone like Gordon, or someone that they think isn't a cornerstone, but a building block, then I think they gut the team again, and go for another top 5 pick.

Holy ****! You think this team can get to a 5 seed next year? Hahahahaha. No reason to discuss this further if that is your belief. No way this roster gets a 5 seed next year. Hell to get there would take more than double the wins we will get this year. No way a rookie and a bunch of bench depth gets you that.
.
This team will be doing great to make a playoff push next year and maybe get an 8 seed (unlikely). Anything better than that is unrealistic. The following year is the year to look for a real chance to get a decent seed. And hopefully the year after that we can be considered borderline title contender's.

Slow you roll. Nobody said it was going to happen just that with the right moves it could.

From your post it seems you don't understand the NBA at all. NBA basketball is a sport for stars. We have a good team that is missing that star. If we had a 3 that could create his own offense, was a legitimate threat in his own right then we would be better than every lottery team hands down.

The tricky bit is acquiring a star.

Currently, the Suns (Dragic, Bledsoe), T-Wolves (Love), Nuggets (Lawson, great depth) and Pelicans (Davis) are lottery teams. The Jazz are more than one player away from being better than every lottery team.

I dont consider bledsoe, dragic, or lawson stars....... and i believe that we have better role players/supporting cast than all those teams anyway other than minnesota who has had kevin martin, chanse budinger, barrea, and pekovic all missing games from injury.
I think minnesota is a playoff team if healthy all year.

I think you add kevin love or davis to the jazz then they are better than every lottery team.

I agree. However it is possible to be a playoff caliber team next year. They need to land that big name draft pick. Then they need to use all this cap space to add depth to the bench. They would also need to land a new coaching staff.

Burke/Neto/Garrett
Hayward/Burks
Parker/Free agent
Favors/Free agent
Kanter/Gobert

Keep in mind this ignores the 2nd 1st round pick this year. If that is our roster I'd add 2 wings and a big. Perhaps Marvin could move to the bench. That would be 14 players.

If the Jazz do that I can see them fighting for 7th or 8th next year with a higher seeding the years after that.

This.
As stoked points out..... we are not just adding one player as GVC suggests. We are drafting a potential star, and have a couple more draft picks in addition to that potential star, and have money to be competitive in free agency, plus our core should improve individually and collectively (with more practice time for chemistry) and we may possibly add better coaching. Plus neto

Any rookie that comes in next year is unlikely to be that star next year. After a few years I really hope so but unlikely next year. We are unlikely to get that star through free agency this off season either. I believe the Jazz will be better next year. I think they will push for the 8th spot next year. Though I find it unlikely that they get it. I just don't get where green and a few other are so convinced that one of these rookies are going to come in and make us a 5th seed or really even much better. Hell if we lose Marvin in FA like many expect we will probably be worse because a rookie is going to find it hard to come in and replace his production right away. And the 2nd pick next year is going to be an even bigger question mark.
.
Push for and compete for a chance at the playoffs next season and I'll consider the season a huge success. I find it just as likely that the Jazz finish 10-12 next year as make the playoffs.

If that guy is a big time star you might be right. However for 1 guy to make this team a 5 seed he better be a top 10 player in the league. And none of the rookies coming in are going to be that right away.
