Before the draft, Kanter was calling himself as PF but after being ineligible for Kentucky he really got muscles and got thicker, stronger to play C. When he was drafted, he was 267 pounds with % 6 fat rate as everone knows.

When i know him from his Fenerbahce days in Turkey , he was playing PF and using his height, weight advantage against the smaller guys, posting up and shooting from the midrange. He was back up of Mirsad Turkcan ( Former NBA PF, Euroleague all time rebound leader) and playing next to Omer Asik of Rockets, or former Cavs C Semih Erden.

Once i heard he lost 51 pounds and has become 242 pounds, i thought he's been ready to slide 4 and thought the advantages and disadvantages of it. If we be witness of him shooting from midrange consistently and posting up weaker guys under the rim and finishing them regularly, this can be really good possibility. Of course the defensive part is most concerning part to be able to know if he can defend and chase the other PFs. Losing weight, getting quicker and faster must help him out in this area. For the near future; Elton Brand, Luis Scola, Al Horford, Booz type of players can be example of him ( I am sure Kanter will be best rebounder among them and better post up player than most).

For Favors, playing him C is more logical for him to show his strenghts such as quickness, fast, 1st step advantage and rebounding in mismatches against the slow C's. Of course it's also up to system to use him in more pick n roll and find him while he is moving instead of constant post up position.

That's how I look at it, who cares which of them is labeled a 4 or a 5 if they play great?

It is not about getting labeled but using the mismatches. When you PF, you gotta have several moves to score and when you play 5, you gotta be mostly defensive anchor and gotta take advantages against them. So guessing the result of match ups depends on your players and their positions. For me, Favors is more ideal to play C and concentrate on his frame more to getting bigger and using his explosive effect. As you look at him, his defensive concentration is up to his scoring. When he does not score, he becomes foul prone and lose his advantage. I belive he can score easier and concentrate up as C.

Kanter will defend the more post oriented player, Favors will defend the more perimeter oriented player. Which of those two is the 4/5 depends on the team. Offensively, Kanter will be able to work more with the ball in his hands from the high and low post, Favors will (hopefully) be used facing up from the short corner and in pick and rolls. The two complement each other very well.

I've heard from Jazz players that the PF and the C are interchangeable in the Jazz offence, so the only thing that really matters is which player each defends on the other team. I do agree that Kanter is more able to play the 4 than he was last year, and with Favors putting on a few he can likely play the C better. The funny thing is that they are both about 50/50 either C or PF so as has been stated, whichever man, whichever.

This.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to GVC again.

Totally agree. Depends entirely on who we play. The diversity between both these guys as they continue to develop could be something special.

It's not like the opposing team's PF will guard Kanter just because we list him as the PF. The 4 and 5 are the same for most of the Jazz offense and the opposing team will decide who is the C and who the PF based on who they put on them. If I'm playing the Jazz, I'd want my biggest guy (center) on Kanter to best prevent him from backing down into the post. Likewise, I'd put Kanter on the opposing team's C for the same reasons. Overall, this discussion has been done to death when it just doesn't matter.

I told it 1 year ago, Kanter must be PF and Favors C. Because they have more suitable skills for that positions. However i think they are complimentary players and its not important who is PF who is C, they will be 2 big guys and guard whoever they can guard better in the game and work on their offensive game to not step on eachothers path.

If we give them good minutes this year, they may have such monster games throughout the year even though not consistently. But they need to play to grow, i guess time to move Big Al?

Doesn't matter what we call them. The team needs a low post beast and a big capable of roaming the paint on defense. Favors developing a solid mid-range game is the floor spacing compliment to Kanter's low post game and for running some of the flex plays. He already has been very capable of coming from the outside to clean glass and get put backs. That youtube highlight real showed how dangerous that is when you double down low on Kanter. Every long miss is an easy two for Favors when the offense runs correctly. Might as well call them assists for Kanter.

Learning the offense and improving his shooting will be the fine tuning parts of Favors game.

and scoring from 15-16 foot out on the other end (post complimentary spacing and running flex plays) and on put backs.
