Before the draft, Kanter was calling himself as PF but after being ineligible for Kentucky he really got muscles and got thicker, stronger to play C. When he was drafted, he was 267 pounds with % 6 fat rate as everone knows.
When i know him from his Fenerbahce days in Turkey , he was playing PF and using his height, weight advantage against the smaller guys, posting up and shooting from the midrange. He was back up of Mirsad Turkcan ( Former NBA PF, Euroleague all time rebound leader) and playing next to Omer Asik of Rockets, or former Cavs C Semih Erden.
Once i heard he lost 51 pounds and has become 242 pounds, i thought he's been ready to slide 4 and thought the advantages and disadvantages of it. If we be witness of him shooting from midrange consistently and posting up weaker guys under the rim and finishing them regularly, this can be really good possibility. Of course the defensive part is most concerning part to be able to know if he can defend and chase the other PFs. Losing weight, getting quicker and faster must help him out in this area. For the near future; Elton Brand, Luis Scola, Al Horford, Booz type of players can be example of him ( I am sure Kanter will be best rebounder among them and better post up player than most).
For Favors, playing him C is more logical for him to show his strenghts such as quickness, fast, 1st step advantage and rebounding in mismatches against the slow C's. Of course it's also up to system to use him in more pick n roll and find him while he is moving instead of constant post up position.
