What's new

This is the MAN we need at #3 - C Jonas Valanciunas

Here's a concern about Williams (even though I WOULD take him #2 behind Irving). As a collegiate-level PF (and I am not impressed with the Pac-10), that everyone wants to transform into an all-star caliber NBA SF, it's important to note that he had more than 25% of his games with AT LEAST 4 TO's (never a game with 4 assists, not that I care about that really). As a non-primary ball handler, that's too many TO's to make me at all certain he can successfully move to SF in a league full of prolific SF's.

I project Williams to be a slightly undersized PF and a good one, perhaps very good. I'm just not sold on all the SF stuff.

I'm not the one who posted the bench press numbers...

So anyone else can post how great Kanter is all the time but I can't disagree? Get the **** outta here you clown!

When I watch the highlights he looks awkward with the ball in his hands. He rarely makes an authoritative low post move against a defender.

I'll give you this, if the choice is between Kanter and that deer on ice JV, I'll take Kanter.

In a different thread you did post bench numbers to help your case that Kanter was weak.

And I know logic is difficult for you, but I'm not arguing on whether Kanter is good or not. The point of my statement was that you called him a weak big man and I disagreed with that. If I wanted to talk about his skill, I would have, but I didn't because it was not part of my statement. So most assuredly, you may have your own opinion, just try to remember what it is that we're talking about here.

So with that in mind, I'm still waiting for you to post a link where you have seen Kanter not play physically.

Agreed. I know he's a better shooter than Millsap, but I'm just failing to see how well he will adapt to playing the 3. Hopefully he does because he does have a very good skill set.

Actually, no I didn't. Liar. Someone else posted the numbers.

Besides that, I didn't necessarily mean weak as in not strong. I meant weak as in an awkward, non-authoritative post game. Sorry for confusing you.

And I have posted a video at some point. And haven't you heard of Youtube?

Jimmer Fredette did bench press 185 lbs 14 times, that is exactly how much Enes Kanter bench pressed, and 11 more times than Kawhi Leonard.

That's pretty pathetic on Kanter's part and really not that impressive for Jimmer either. Soft euro FTMFL.

Ok so while you didn't post the numbers you did negatively comment on them. I guess I just remembered wrong.

Weak does not mean awkward, non-authoritative post game. If you wanted to say that, you would have. Weak means weak, or not strong. Awkward means awkward. You also have called Kanter a "skinny euro twerp". If 260 pounds is skinny, then you must be one large dude.

It seems to me that you probably have more of a problem with European players than anything else, so continue to let your bias work against you. Cheers.

Weak can also mean poor, bad, ******, whack, lame, etc.

I'm convinced you're trolling.

Ahem. Here's the definition from dictionary.com

1.
not strong; liable to yield, break, or collapse under pressure or strain; fragile; frail: a weak fortress; a weak spot in armor.
2.
lacking in bodily strength or healthy vigor, as from age or sickness; feeble; infirm: a weak old man; weak eyes.
3.
not having much political strength, governing power, or authority: a weak nation; a weak ruler.

If I was to say, "Yo man, that **** is weak", that would mean that you're not coming at me strong. Strong is an antonym for weak. English lesson of the day for you.

Edited to say that I'm not trolling, I'm just bored.

Weak and strong don't always refer to physical strength, troll-face. Arguments can be weak, like yours. Things can have a strong odor, like your mother.

I'm done with you, troll. Be gone.

Once your opponent has gone to insulting you, that's when you know that they have run out of things to say. Congratulations on insulting my mother and proving yourself wrong even further.

Funny from the guy who started slinging the insults first. Plus...I never said she had a bad odor...just a strong one. Guilty conscience?

You're a laugh-a-minute!

Yeah, having gone over this stuff a bit the past few days I was infected with the hype and got caught up in the idealized hope for what JV could become. But sanity prevails. The draft is a gamble, sure. But you wanna take a wise, measured gamble and bet on things that are more concrete rather than stuff that is largely based on future potential. JV's potential is nice but Kanter's more of a sure thing.

I think someone - maybe Beantown - put it most succinctly when he said something like "rather than hope JV becomes like Kanter why don't we just draft Kanter?" I've remembered it wrong but you get the gist.

My last post might seem like my final word on the matter. It isn't. If KOC ended up drafting JV instead of Kanter I would feel pretty secure that JV would pan out eventually. Not right away. But I'm not too concerned with how good the Jazz will be next year anyway.

In all seriousness, can someone please explain to me what the difference is between JV and Shawn Bradley? I haven't watched the tape myself, but from the pluses and minuses that people have mentioned in this thread that's seriously what he is seeming like to me.

Oh we're aware. You've been flip-flopping on everybody for months.

Hey, I ain't running for office.

I'm malleable. I mean, I really want the Jazz to draft the best players, so being dazzled by a prospect isn't the final word. And neither is being underwhelmed either. I keep looking and looking and flipping and flopping until I find a comfortable place to settle.

And I prefer this to blanket, hyperbolic statements borrowed from the herd (this is not directed at you, Hantlers).

JV isn't an athletic freak but he moves twice as well as Shawn Bradley Molasses did. You can find countless clips of Bradley getting posterized because he was just so slow as a help defender. Still Bradley was a talented shot blocker, averaging 3.5 in his prime. Also Bradley was a 60% FT shooter coming in, JV would be 90% entering the league, quite a bit more of offensive potential due to that and his speed. JV gets an incredible amount of alley oops, you don't get those if you're slow with lead feet.
