Seriously tho, would rather have Tinsley starting than JL3
If you want the Jazz to tank then Lucas but Tinsley gives us a better chance of winning. Jamal can still pass the ball and run the offense.

Great move. Lol at the people who think this ruins the tank. We are not going to win very many games because of Tinsley, but the young players are going to gain a lot in development by playing with a point guard who knows how to get the ball to the right spots. This is a million times better than having them stand around watching a PG who won't/can't reward them with the ball when they put themselves into the right position.
Not sure if serious, but: Derrick Rose.
Didn't read the thread but am sure someone must have mentioned this is a great pick up because he's not good enough to slow the tank, but is good enough to help our youth progress better through the year.
*takes breath after extra long sentence*
So I like it.

Exactly my thoughts. Tinsley's not good enough to kill the tank. But he is good enough that he should help the development of the young 'uns rather than hinder it. I like the signing.
This to these and the other similar posts. We need a pg that will be able to run our offense, no need to be able to score a bunch until Burke comes back, then he can do both. Tinsley is perfect for running the offense, being a good teammate, helping develop young players, and making sure we get a shot at The Wiggins.
There were more posts, just was too lazy to quote them all.
Glad we got the Tin man back
How can a player help with the development of our young bigs without slowing the tank? I like the signing too, but, if we want to perform at our absolute worst, wouldn't it be better to let JLIII chuck away?

i am in favor of this move. As it stands right now the jazz have no pg and that affects the development of the bigs.
This is OK. I expect him to play around 28 minutes a game, around 7.5 assists per game.

Because we still lose about the same amount of games but with tinsley we lose by like 7 points per game instead of 15

The worst thing we can do for the development of our young bigs is to play them with a chucker like JLIII. I think his signing was a mistake, and they have realized it, which is why they are signing Tinsley, a guy who can help Burke learn how to run an offense.

Hell no! This year is not about tanking no matter what the fools tell you. It is about developing the youth! This is just the perfect time to do so as there is a safety net of the 2014 draft and 2014 free agent pool. The whole poitn is to develop the youth! If they make the playoffs then great!!! you go after free agents and compete next year. If they don't then you supplement them in a stellar draft. The whole point is that you give the youth the tools they need to develop and then see if they will. Tinsley fits right into that.

Since I constantly give OG ****, I gotta point out when he's right too.
Tinsley is the best PG we could've signed that will help the young guys gel. If you think Tinsley hurts the tank, u crazy.

Oh yeah, he reallllly mentored Rose I tell ya.
We're talking about a guy who couldn't crack an NBA roster until his late 20s. What is he going to mentor Trey Burke, let alone Derrick Rose on, how good the sushi and Ramen is in China and that you'll be eating a lot of it if you suck in the NBA?
LinkDennis Lindsey said:...But a couple things went into the John Lucas decision.
One, coaches trust him at a very high level, as with Jeff Van Gundy, Tom Thibodeau. He had his best year two seasons ago with Thibs in Chicago, and as we brought John in, and talked to John about his experience with backing up Derrick Rose, and being part of serious programs, we just really felt comfortable with, you know, he was going to compete hard against all of our guards on a daily basis, but yet mentor them.
LinkDaily Herald said:When the Bulls broke training camp just before Christmas, they didn't have an extra big man to replace Kurt Thomas, but they did keep a third-string point guard in John Lucas III.
A couple of popular questions from Bulls fans during this time were, "What is he doing here?" and "When will they get rid of him?"
There were valid reasons Lucas stuck around. Most important was his role as friend and mentor to Derrick Rose. Lucas and Rose are shooting partners and have adjacent lockers at the United Center.
Daily Herald said:The Bulls put John Lucas’ locker at the United Center next to Derrick Rose. The two also are shooting partners after practice.
Clearly, one of Lucas’ roles on the team is to be a friend and mentor to Rose. Lucas, 29, is six years older and has been around the NBA all his life, since his dad of the same name was a longtime player who also coached three different teams.
“Basketball runs in his blood,” Rose said. “John’s cool. He knows the game. I call him a true point guard.
"He can definitely score the ball. But when he comes to practice, he picks people up half court, puts a lot of pressure on me. It’s great playing against him.”
Not only can't he shoot, but he won't shoot (as opposed to Mo last season). Tinsley will try his best to get the ball to the other four players, which will give them more touches. The downside is that other teams know he can't shoot and that's going to make it harder for Favors and Kanter. They'll be hit with a double team immediately because no one has to guard Jamaal.Along with all of these replies...
It's a fine line here, but we do want to play as hard as we can and teach the young players how to play, how to get into an offensive set, and how to properly run plays. You can't do that with a chucking pg. I think Tinsley is savvy enough to help in their development, but at the same time he can't shoot so he probably won't change our win total much. This way we develop at a much higher rate while keeping about the same odds of a Wiggins. It's not necessarily a "tank" if you are trying to win but just don't have the horses... but a take advantage of the opportunity to do two good things at the same time and if we get a good draft pick, great. As has been said before, I think development is first, then accepting the losses is second even if we attempt to win.
We do not want to perform at our absolute worst. The goal is to become a good team. I'm amazed that is so hard for some people to understand. If we finish with a bad record hopefully it will be because our bench played so badly that our awesome young core couldn't overcome the damage they were doing each game. I think we all expect the young guys to make mistakes and lose some games on their own at the beginning of the year, but ideally by the end of the year they will be making it very difficult for our bench to screw up enough to lose, and one or more of them will be on the verge of becoming a superstar. How can a player help with the development of our young bigs without slowing the tank? I like the signing too, but, if we want to perform at our absolute worst, wouldn't it be better to let JLIII chuck away?
I want to punch almost everyone in this thread square in the face. It's not that ****ing hard of a concept bros.
THE goal and only goal of the season is to develop our young core and find out exactly what we have in them.
This is not a tank in the mold of the Wizards, Bobcats, Raptors or one of those other ****ty *** franchises that are perpetually in tank mode with absolutely no plan or hope for the future.
We have a plan. We have A+ caliber young prospects, multiple draft picks in future years, and salary cap space.
If some of you seriously think that player personnel decisions on the level of a Jamaal Tinsley signing come down to "Well who do you guys think helps us lose more games?" You are a simpleton, and I'm sorry but this year will be hard for you to understand, so look away.
By FAR the impact that Tinsley could have on the young guys development is greater and more important than the potential games he could win us to hurt our tank. (LMFAO I can imagine fans around the NBA saying "oh ****, Jazz got Tinsley! Chalk up 6 more wins for teh Utah boyz" )
We are not sacrificing this season just for a high draft pick. We took a year to get off the #7-10 seed treadmill, strip the franchise fo it's core, and chart out the franchise's future like few teams in the NBA ever have a chance to do, and we got incredibly lucky that all the stars aligned for us and our reboot is taking place in a year with a stacked draft.
I would think that for any die hard fan this would all fall into "well yeah, duh" territory, but apparently some people don't freaking get it.
Tanking is not the goal. The goal is to rid the franchise of ANY piece that isn't a possible championship piece, then develop the pieces that could be. If losing is a byproduct of that, so be it. The draft is stacked? Lucky us.
The franchise took the choice of trying for a future championship no matter the growing pains. Soo different than saying, "hey we suck, lets just tank lolz".
Crazy that some people have missed it.
