What's new

To the AK haters

I was an AK fan for years. I don't want him back. I don't think he helps enough and is not the future of this team. Losing this season is not the worst thing that can happen to this franchise. We need to discover what we have in the young guys and develop them. I don't expect to make the playoffs this year and I don't think AK makes enough of a diffence to push us over that hill. If Millsap and Bell are traded for a PG then I may change my mind. As long as he is not signed for more than 2 seasons. Anything more than 2 seasons at any contract amount and I don't want him back. If he gets 4 years for more than 6 Millions per then I'll be extremely annoyed.

This!

Why does AK put up great numbers in Europe and nothing similar in the NBA. Is it because he gets "shut out" of the offense. No. AK is a tweener. He's not strong enough to play PF in the NBA and his shooting and one-on-one defense is a liability at the 3. In Europe, he's able to play the big forward because there aren't the plethora of 6'10" big and strong PF's. Sure you have a few tall guys, but most are finesse-type forwards. Europe does not have the same physical play as the NBA.

When the Jazz did not have a decent PF, AK was "The Man" and averaged around 16/8 for 3 years. And how many playoff appearances did he lead us to in his best seasons? That's right, ZERO! AK, partly due to age and partly due to injuries, has lost some of his quickness and a lot of his leaping ability. Have the Jazz been better when he plays? Yes. Then again, CJ, Brewer, and a hobbled Harpring were the main options at SF besides AK. So I would certainly hope the Jazz have been better with AK in the lineup.

Jazz need to develop Hayward and Burks this season. CJ will also get the ususal 25 mins PT, to either see if he fits in the future plans, or to trade for a pick at the deadline. No to AK. The Jazz do not need him back at $5M+.

Listen, there is no one currently on the roster to develop at that position (Hayward is a 2), nor is there anyone to provide any depth if we don't bring AK back. We will get nowhere near the value for our dollar we would get with AK if we brought someone else in. Let's face it, we sign a FA, we're probably getting damaged goods that, if we're lucky, will provide a bandaid for a year or two at the most. Why not bring back a guy that knows the system, is super talented, and actually WANTS to be here?

There have been tons of reasons presented in the thread, feel free to read the other posts. But I ask, at what price do we bring him back? $3 mill? No-brainer, yes. $10 mill? No brainer, HELL NO! $4-$6 mill? Maybe. It is not cut and dried that he is what we need nor that he will be worth it.

Why do we want a player that will take PT away from a younger player?

Why do we want our young players to be around a bum?

I say, rebuild this team the way we want it rebuilt. Hard work, dedication, and toughness. Lets build a team that can compete in the next few years. AK doesn't help us with that.

You're wrong... its obvious the Jazz should re-sign him and here's why... 1. The Jazz are way better with him in the lineup (I'm quoting Corbin on that) He is their best defender(one of the few guys in the league that can guard Durant), best passer, and best facilitator of an offense that may not change much due to the shortened preseason.2. They have a legit chance to be a playoff team with him in the lineup, without him the chances diminish considerably. As far as the notion that he will hinder the rebuilding effort, taking playing time from the kids... honestly the most damaging thing to the Jazz' future at this point would be to lose a lot of games, have a lot empty seats and lose more money. 3.AK actually helps Hayward's development by allowing him to play the 2 where he looked great at the end of year. Pairing those two together would make them long, athletic on the wings. They both shot the 3 well last year, they both can put it on the floor and pass and they both stay in front of people defensively. 4.) You can't get anyone comparable to him with a mid-level exception, no way someone like Prince comes here for that 5) He wants to come back for less than market value- how many guys have been that loyal to Utah?

I understand management may go a different direction because of his history of injury, but the positives of bringing him back far outweigh the risk and i think it would be a big mistake not to.

AK is like a unique indian silk if he agrees to a mid level exception

Also, we don't want him to influence our golden boy Hayward. If we sign him, Hayward would most likely show up with a starcraft tat on his back or whatever the hell that games called.

...in addition to the desecrating tat....he'd be teaching him how to launch ill-advised 3's, gamble on defense, and brick layups!

Sure, why we would want to win and get to playoffs now? Lets play young players and get another lottery pick which O'Connor will screw up anyway.

What would be refreshing is if there was a clause in the the new CBA that allowed contracts to be prorated according to the number of games missed due to injury. Particularly for players who have a history of injuries. Guaranteeing contracts for players who don't play is completely asinine.

I heard he is out with injury for at least a month, and knowing AK it could be longer. In a short season that's not good. How much money do the jazz have to spend. With his injury and a shortened season he's not worth the mid level.

AK is out for at least a month already!

Knowing AK, that month will turn into at least twice that... followed by another sprained ankle or broken wrist sometime in the month of Feb/March.

In a shortened season, he's not going to help us at all.

In the short or long term, the benefits of having AK on this team are minimal.

AK is like that GF that isn't very good looking yet, for some of you, he was your first GF...

So you know he's not THEE ONE. Yet, you don't want to break up indefinitely.

Folks, get over it.

Ak will not help us at all? That is ridiculous considering who we have at wing right now. I would say though to re-sign him he would need to give a discount for the games he will miss.

What did I say? Lets read it now, shall we?

Umm, what did you say right before that? Also I think he would be a big help. You are right though he is injured an awful lot, but wrong on how much time he is supposed to miss. Perhaps you should learn how to read.

hukt on fonix werkt fer me!

For AK's sake, I hope he moves on. He can help us and I'll miss him, but he deserves to play a role more suited to his skills. He could be a huge asset to a contender which is where I expect him to wind up.

Good post.

Maybe he will end up in Miami? He could take over in the 4th quarter when LBJ goes on his extended break.

If they amnesty Miller definitely a possibility. Sounds like they are more interested in a center though. You would think he would love to get out of the cold and snow finally.
