To the AK haters

first of all, the quicker guys like derrick favors and enes kanter get to playoffs the better. almost nobody is successful at first in the playoffs, you have to lose to figure out how to win, and if some veteran players help the young guys get that experience, they'll be better in the long run.

second... people who think that AK's value is mininimum-to-3M are as crazy as the people who think his value in this market if 8-10M. in the supply and demand world of the NBA, AK's value will be set by what the majority of teams have available to offer -- the new MLE. wherever he signs, it will be for a contract starting around 5M.

finally, and here's my most important point: the AK of old is back. he's been terrorizing european basketball teams all summer, starting at eurobasket and then on into the CSKA season. look at his euroleague stats (13.8 ppg, 9 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.2 spg, 3.2 bpg, all in just 30 mpg) and tell me the two-time eurobasket player of the week isn't completely reinvigorated right now. we would kill to have THAT andrei putting up those types of numbers this year, it would take the jazz to a whole different level. and that's after a 14.9/6.1/2.3/2.6/0.7 in 29 mpg performance at eurobasket that netted him an all-tournament selection.

Some people want to ignore things like this. AK at a decent salary would be a huge boost for the Jazz. Sure he is going to miss some games, but if you look at our wing situation right now it is pretty bad. Also signing AK would make it easier to trade Millsap perhaps netting the Jazz some significant assets.

I don't think anyone has argued this point. The contention is in what constitutes a decent salary. Considering that he will take some time away from developing prospects, that reduces that amount for me. I wouldn't want to see him back for any more than 5 mill a year, maybe 6 if it's short. I can't believe that ANYONE thinks the level of competition in euro-league or russia is equivalent to the NBA. They are generally smaller and play a lot less physical. Plus, in this time frame AK has been THE MAN on his teams, so of course he shines. We all knew he could light it up when he was THE ONLY ONE that mattered. As soon as he had to share time and the ball and fill in a role that matters in team ball, he collapsed. Can anyone GUARANTEE he will not simply fold and produce mediocre numbers yet again? Or that he will be any more reliable from an inury perspective? No they cannot, and that keeps his value, for the Jazz at least, fairly low.

yeah, we'd love to have those stats but they'd never happen. why? because he''ll come back here, realize he has to be part of a team and system, mope around, and clam the **** up like he always does or get hurt. he's a bitch.

Ak is back because he is "the man" for those teams. He will never be "the man" for an NBA team again. Therefore those type of stats are never again going to happen on an NBA court.

As for his salary I agree somebody is going to give him 4 years at the MLE. And I hope and pray it is not the Jazz that are stupid enough to give him that. They don't need him messing up the salary structure going forward. We have a chance to really rebuild this roster around the young guys (whichever ones emerge) and not signing over the hill veterans, to too long of contracts, is a key part of that. AK for 2 years at MLE is maybe worth it (but still too much for this team IMO) For 3 or more years I am against signing him unless it's for dirt cheap. Which he will not accept.

Damn it just realized Loggrad beat me to this point. And I can't rep him ATM.
 
People are going to be very surprised how well AK plays for a contending team this year. Then we'll read posts about how he didn't try or whatever so screw him. But the reality is he wasn't meant to be a wing in a Jerry Sloan motion offense. For that matter, he was meant to post 3's which he never did. He has his flaws, and the injury problems are real, but he's a fantastic basketball player who will play big minutes for somebody this year and be a difference maker.

i too could find some small joy out of ak testing the waters with kobe. especially after favors dunks in their face
 
I have contended all along that AK will sign for 5-6 and I still think that is true. There is no question we can use him. THe only reason for not signing him at that price point is the amount of games he misses. I would still love to see him back.

I love this place. Where else could a guy who lives in his mom's basement lecture the top athletes on the planet about work ethic? (And I'm not saying Klinko doesn't have a thing or two to learn.)
