Tract McGrady

Looks like McGrady is having a hard time finding a team this offseason. He recently has worked out for Chicago and the Clippers but now it seems that neither team is likely to sign him. I think he could help us out next year if we got him for the right deal. Sure he is old and has been injured but he can still play and at this point in his career I'd assume he would like to contribute on a winning team and we may be able to get him at a low cost. I know we don't really need another swingman but with Okur out to start the season AK will be playing more PF and we still don't know how ready Hayward is to play.

Sad that these old superstar vets (Shaq, AI, TMAC) can not get it thru their thick skulls that they are no longer relevant. If they would just accept the fact that if they want to play they need to take a backseat and play the vet role player "role", they probably could pro long their careers. No doubt each has talent, but their heads will keep them out of the league.

You know how winners win? Well, losers lose.

No defense spot up shooter is probably his ceiling now. Korver was better. And he'll probably poison the good vibe in the locker room.

I'm inclined to pass.

Also we could tract McGrady but I don't know that missionaries are the best way to get free agents to Utah. (sorry I could not resist)

My favorite quote: "This was a great team, a pretty good team, without adding myself and Carlos Boozer, and some of the key players that they added this offseason." The guy is seriously out of ****ing touch with reality.

Worst qualities to have in a wing player FOR THE JAZZ.

  • Bad perimeter Defender
  • Needs the ball in there hands to be effective
  • Shoots a bad percentage from the outside
  • Bad shot selection (Not in the offense)
  • Turnover prone
  • Does not move well without the ball
  • Takes plays off

Best qualities to have for a Jazz wing player

  • Shoots a good percentage from the outside
  • Takes smart selective shots
  • Moves well without the ball
  • Does not need the ball in his hands to be effective
  • Hustle player (does not take plays off)
  • Plays within himself knows his role
  • Good perimeter defender

That is my opinion. Argue if you want but which one is Tracy McGrady? Even if healthy?

Our wing players don't need to be the best ball handlers. They don't need to even be the best playmakers. They just need to be willing to play within the system. They need to understand there role. Not try to do too much. Hit the open jumpers and come off screens. Even set screens. Some Jazz fans don't realize that doing less is actually doing more when your a role player for any team but the Jazz specifically.

McGrady has none of the qualities we need in a wing player.

THIS. It's the same reason we never wanted to have AI (even in his prime).

Sign him. 2 years, 4M. Ease him back into things and if he gets healthy, he could be a huge weapon and asset, especially at that price. If not, the cost was minimal. Just my quick take.

I'd rather have CJ getting those minutes, and even Hayward. Mac is a mediocre shooter with no mobility.. a 45-year-old Hornacek would be a better option.
