Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

the murray trade was up there - any idiot should know that a non-shooting, ball dominant guard is not who you want to pair with young. and now we're seeing how that's working out for the hawks.

and keep in mind he went to stanford on an athletic scholarship. hell, probably had the smart kids doing all his papers.
Pretty sure they've been pretty good with their starting lineup though. I think the Murray/Trae thing has worked.

Yeah, their starting lineup of Young/Murray/Hunter/Collins/Capela is +10.8 per 100 in 324 minutes. 12th best in the NBA with 100+ minutes (#6 with 200+ minutes).

Shoutout to Sexton/Clarkson/Vanderbilt/Markkanen/Olynyk at +15.7 in 133 minutes.

Denver and GS starting lineups clearly the best big minute lineups in the league.

their starting lineup hasn't been good enough - they need their starting lineup to be like top 5 in the league for as much as they rely on them. they are one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA and trae young is having one of his worst seasons playing alongside murray. it hasn't worked.

Dejounte is a good defender, but a horribly inefficient shooter (saw among volume scorers he was 49th in efficiency). And he was similar with the Spurs, though Pops had him playing a bit more disiplined. I think the Hawks know they overpaid, and he is a very bad fit with Trae. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see them take substantially less to move him.

A more realistic trade with Murray would be Beasley/Vando/JC/KO and 2 future firsts (Cavs/Minny picks) for Collins/Murray

Only way I see it happening is if Murray and Young are privately both not loving it. I would have a little hesitation on Murray because of injury history and contract status but that's the type of player acquisition type deal I would do. Instead of cashing in vets for picks.

Sam Amick wrote a piece yesterday where he also interviewed DJM. This might have sparked those likely fake rumors. Few quotes:

Murray, meanwhile, admitted that his first season in Atlanta has been more turbulent than he anticipated. “I mean, there’s a lot going on (that’s) non-basketball,” Murray said. “And then with basketball, you’ve got guys in trade rumors.”

“I wouldn’t say more than what I expected, but more than where I came from in San Antonio where everything was just not as loud. There’s a lot going on, but for me I’m just trying to keep guys together with my leadership, showing up to work, working hard, being vocal and keeping us together, and trying to keep the outside noise the outside noise. But at the end of the day, we all see it. You can’t hide. You can’t run from it. … At the end of the day, winning takes care of it all. So we need to control what we can control, continue to come together as brothers, and try to go out and win basketball games.”

Murray is a very good player and the type of guy you'd need if you were building a contender with fringe all-stars around Lauri.

This feels like a deal we could revisit in the offseason depending on where our picks land and who we end up drafting.

I love Sam... his new schtick is interviewing guys that may want to get moved I guess.

I think Trae is a huge diva. It does sound like some buyers remorse from Murray. I do think that I would wait until the end of the year to pursue that deal as it would likely cost less and we'd have some roster/draft certainty.

I think you just wait until the summer on a Hawks deal... unless they are definitely moving Murray this season. We have a ton of draft capital so they'd likely want us in on that deal. So if they are panicking this summer you might get a way better deal. I don't know that two of the Cavs/Minny picks would get it done at this point. I would not go higher than that.

Also, just an FYI the hawks starting lineup with Murray, Youn, Hunter, Collins, Capela is actually like a net +11 per 100 possessions. So it is working but they are rarely all healthy.

From the article

After all these years of John Collins trade rumors, executives who have spoken to the Hawks about acquiring the veteran forward recently have indicated that the asking price has — understandably — declined significantly this time around. As I detailed in my recent conversation with Collins, the combination of his large contract and his declined production is hardly helpful in terms of his modern-day value. In some scenarios, the Hawks are merely asking for a quality player in return (and not a first-round pick), according to league sources.
