Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Big Wos is a certified Donovan Mitchell hater lmao. I love it.

The NBA Ringer Group Chat podcast btw.

They will probably still be a good team.

They have team control over Edwards for 6 more years at least.

They have team control over KAT for 5 years.

They have team control over Gobert for 4 years.

They got Jaden McDaniels for 6 more years.

Even if Gobert falls off, they have so many ways to pivot and augment their team. This is the kind of trade that sets them up for long-term franchise success.

Not without trading a core piece. When Edwards comes due, the will be over the cap until the end of the decade. Gobert's trade literally meant they are all-in on the idea.

Wallace wasn't when in the same position as Rudy.

I'm just saying there's more athleticism to Rudy's game than folks think, with his reaction and ability to trail-and-tail. Dude's wingspan and size makes up for a part of his game, but it's not whole reason. That said, if he's still raking DPOYs at 35, it wouldn't surprise me.
very different for a 6'8" player who relies so heavily on his athleticism and a 7'2 player with a 7'9 span who relies mostly on his length.

Please stop pretending like we know what Minnesota is going to look like in 5/6/7 years from now. Nobody knows and that’s the beauty of getting those picks so far out.
We don't know, but we can infer, based on similar situations and where the players are in their careers and the previous success of the org. I agree with you though that having those picks further out will likely be better for us, as all teams undergo cycles of ups and downs. The Wolves are likely to be in a minor- to mid-up phase for the next 3-4 years, at which point it is likely we see a decline, so a pick in the 5-7 range will likely carry more value than a pick in the next 1-4 years.

It would probably be like that with any star we pick up in the draft. A lot of these rumors are old media spreading bs.

Donovan, if anything is going to want to show out this year without Rudy stealing the spotlight. It helps raise his value, if anything.
The only way his value goes up is if the Jazz are a middle-of-the-road or even good team, which is a huge missed opportunity in rebuilding. The Jazz might have a 14% chance at the #1 pick if they are terrible, they have a 0% chance they can trade for it with Mitchell.

If the Jazz try to keep Mitchell and tank then his value probably tanks with it.

We all know where this is headed.

His value may hold... might be Beal like in that way. But we have never seen him without Rudy. People mock screen assists... but the screens and rim pressure is real for Don. The floor has also been spaced as well... Royce is a good shooter he's gone... Joe is gone... reportedly Mike may be out... Bogey? It is likely he has a worse screen setter roll man and worse spacing unless we cash in some of our reserves. Some of the bloom could come off the rose if he puts up numbers but is inefficient. Look at Julius Randle... made all-nba... has a bad shooting season and its now one of the worst contracts in the league.

Also, injuries are a thing in the NBA. Doesn't have to be catastrophic but if he misses 20 games with another ankle injury you start to see a trend. Its okay for KD to tear his achilles... his value won't change... he's 7 foot and a super talent... but what about a 6'1" guard who relies on his athleticism to get his shot off and go to the rim.

If I had to guess I'd say his value in 12 months is slightly worse than it is now because he has less time on his deal... but the downside is his value is way down because of injury or he gets exposed a bit. The upside that he has a big year and improves his value is like a 15% chance type of thing... and even then the premium wouldn't be huge.

The Jazz were 45-62 without Rudy Gobert.

That’s 34.4 win pace for a season. Waaaaay too good…especially since guys like Bev and Vandy could help more than we know…and Poeltl could be an improvement over whatever backups played when Rudy was out.

We need to trade Don before the season. And Bogey, our second best scorer, too. Doing those two moves basically just about guarantees us a top 6 pick IMO.

The entire system was built around a rim protecting big who sets screens on offense. Of course we were going to suffer when the best rim protecting screener was out of the game.

We have a new coach. We have a new system. We don't need to jump to conclusions.

Not sure how that’s your takeaway from what I posted.
Didn't you make the assumption that we couldn't win enough games without Rudy Gobert? And isn't your whole line of thinking is that we can be "okay" with what we have but not good enough to be relevant but too good for a great draft pick?

My line of thinking is simple - trust the new coach. Don't blow it up. Our perimeter defense just improved greatly. Assuming that Beasley can be as good as Royce defensively, Beasley plus great Beverley plus borderline All Defense Vanderbilt addresses that need area tremendously for us.

Been saying this a while, but Conley or Clarkson needs to go for value elsewhere. As it stands right now, we need another good rotation player (not necessarily starter) at center and more depth on the wing.

The disconnect is he was saying we want to lose to get a better pick. He is saying Don is too good for that to happen.
No the point was that Lopo makes connections that fit his agenda and world-view, not based on logic from the actual discussion.

I didn't follow the entire conversation. I just saw his one post.

Make fun of me all you want, but isn't his point pretty much - we win less by losing Rudy but win too much by keeping Don and we should trade them both? If I'm wrong, I'll own it. But that's the jist of what he said right?

Right now we have about 9 guards and almost no wings or bigs. Even if we don't make any more big moves, we've at least got to ship out a couple of these guards and try to balance out the roster a little bit.

Yeah, my ****ing gosh damn agenda/worldview/stance is pretty ****ing simple and has been for a long time -

We can win ball games without Rudy ****ing Gobert if we have a better coach and a more complete roster built around Donovan Mitchell.

Good lord thanks Captain Obvious!! You just think everyone is out to get you… so paranoid. All of us are discussing what’s best for the jazz and LoPo acting like Mitchell is his flesh and blood the Utah jazz be damned. For the record, Gobert is my third favorite jazz player of all time and I wanted to trade him. And I’m fine with Keeping Mitchell. Just stop acting like Mitchell is your son or something super annoying

I don't think anybody is out to get me. At all. I don't feel threatened.

I just found it odd that I responded to Keefe's message then he tried to act like I didn't understand his context.
