Trade the pick (Overrated Draft)

Would you say that A.Morrison had elite skill in college? Jimmer? Just asking for honest opinion.

Jimmer yes (he led the league in 3 pt shooting last year)

Jimmer is an elite shooter..... so is mcdermott.

Just cause you have an elite skill doesnt mean you will be good, but mcdermott does have an elite skill for sure

There are scorers and then there are shooters. McDermott is an elite shooter. That's a HUGE difference.
And no, neither Jimmer nor Morrison had elite skills. They were tremendous scorers. And as you mentioned, there are plenty of those who never make it in the NBA.

McDermott: career averages of 55%/46%. Find another shooter who has had those kind of numbers. And his 3-PT% wasn't through lack of attempts!
As I've said a number of times, McDermott likely won't be a starter. But he's going to be a candidate every year for the 6th man award. Imagine the draw and kick plays that could be run with McDermott standing outside. A rich man's Kyle Korver.

I think it is a stretch to call him a rich man's Korver but I see where you coming from. Would you say McDermott is better shooter than Stauskas? Cause I would rather have Stauskas than McDermott to be honest. Much more versatile player.

Percentage-wise, yes.
And McDermott is a forward, not a guard like Stauskas.
Fredette's problem is his size. Everyone knew he could not be a SG and so he became a PG, without the necessary skillset to be an NBA PG.
With McDermott, you can have him camp out in the corner, like Korver did. I only brought up McDermott's name because the Jazz interviewed him at the combine. At first, I thought maybe they might be thinking of trading back. But the more I think about, the more I believe the Jazz may have just been covering bases for a worst-case scenario (falling to 7) and deciding between poor shooters like Smart and Gordon, or a dead-eye talent like McDermott. BTW, there are at least 8 players I like ahead of him. I see McDermott going in the 9-14 range.

We all know Embiid, Parker, and Wiggins are going top 3.

No way we can trade up in this draft. They aren't trading down.

This is a very very overrated draft. The majority of these players will be lucky to be in the league in 3-5 years. Most of them are tweeners who can't play any particular position. And they have very big holes in their game.

Marcus Smart - not big enough to play the 2. And not fast enough to play the 1. Not a real PG.
At best he is a combo guard off the bench playing 15-20 minutes a game.

Julius Randle - He is a PF for sure. But he isn't very fast. He has t-rex arms and will most likely have a Sheldon Williams type career.

Noah Vonleh - Average big man. Not great at anything.

Doug McDermott - Adam Morrison. Not fast enough to create his own shot. Not tough enough to play the 4.

Aaron Gordon - Another tweener that can't play the 3. And isn't strong enough to play the 4 full time. His outside shot sucks. 42% from the free throw line. Not sure what the hype is about this guy. Above average athleticism and above average handle for someone his size, but that doesn't mean jack in the NBA. There are 10 guys a year who come in with his talent level that never make a team. Jeremy Evans is already a better player then this guy.

The lottery talent in this draft is normally in the 20's-30's at the end of the 1st round. Its pathetic how many holes these players have in their game.
I am normally someone who is optimistic about players coming into the draft over the last 20 years. The past few years the draft is getting drastically worse. Let another team roll the dice on these players. Get some value in return, because most of these will be wasted picks.

Look at the top 4 teams this year.
2014 - Spurs, Thunder, Pacers, Heat
2013 - Spurs, Grizzlies, Pacers, Heat

3 out of the 4 teams have 2 BIGS playing the majority of the front court minutes. They are not playing small ball with a SF playing PF or a tweener playing PF. They have 2 legit bigs. They might change it up every one in awhile to throw them off but the majority of the time they play big. Playoff basketball slows down.
The heat are an exception to the rule because they have Lebron. They can get away with it. But we also saw how Lebron got embarrassed by David West last game. The trend of these tweener 3/4 players doesn't work very well come playoff time.
We won't be getting a superstar like Lebron any time soon. I post this because Aaron Gordon is overrated and everyone trying to ship off Kanter for literally nothing. It seems a lot of people have bought into the Tyrone Corbin garbage where they can't play together. Just because we had a coach that cannot play with 2 bigs doesn't mean they can't. Again Look at the Pacers, Thunder, Spurs, Grizzlies etc. No reason to cut corners. Build a real team for the playoffs. Not a mediocre .500 club.

I guess in theory your opinion doesn't suck ... but it does. It sucks hard.

Profound statement

Well, everybody has a right to their opinion, even when it's wrong.

I think you are WAY off base, but I'd never insult you. I actually want the Jazz to stand pat at #5 and take Vonleh. Randle would be my second choice. And I'm NOT in favor of trading Kanter. Vonleh and Gobert are not close to being FT starters. Kanter and Favors would still start and get 30 mins/per. Gobert and Vonleh/Randle get the backup mins. Essentially, we'd just be replacing the minutes Marvin was getting at PF.

Ya I don't think that is a good move. Only because it doesn't make us versatile enough. We need a stretch 4 or an athletic mobile 4. We play big with Kanter/Favors/Gobert. But need a back up PF who is mobile enough to guard the quick and athletic 4's.
Spurs will play Kawai at the 4 at time. Or Boris Diaw who yes is fat but he has quick feet laterally and he can stay in front of his man. As he showed to play good defense against Lebron in the finals last year.

Randle and Vonleh I don't think fill the need of the stretch 4 we need to keep us versatile.
