What's new

Trey Lyles being held out of practice/Summer League for now

If the aforementioned trade is actually a possibility, I would imagine the Jazz would have to send out Alec Burks in addition to Trey Burke to make the numbers work. If NYK had the space to absorb Roy and Alec, and considering their need for 1st round draft picks going forward, they would be getting a decent return to be out from under Melo's max contract.

Phil Jackson may not see Carmelo as a good fit for the triangle offense. It will be interesting to see if this trade or something akin to it actually comes to fruition. Because it's just really strange that the Jazz have:

1. been so quiet in free agency (haven't even signed a scrub)
2. haven't signed Lyles when they know he needs the Summer League reps
3. have talked to but have not nailed down their Euro prospects, and
4. are leaving Trevor Booker hanging on a team-friendly deal.

All of these things make me think that something is going on behind the scenes. And if it's something like this trade, then more power to them. But I believe Melo has a no-trade clause, which is what might be gumming up the works.

If there is was any truth to what PKM said, is this rumor dead or is it still possible. Lyles still not signed. What the hell is Utah waiting for. If the Jazz are trying to make a trade it can't be a minor trade or I think it would've been completed by now. To me this doesn't automatically mean they are trading him but if they are trying it has to be big.

If this deal was in place before the pick was made why didn't it go through? Don't get me wrong. Lyles is who I wanted but if the Jazz were told by other teams to pick Lyles and the Jazz wouldn't have picked him otherwise. The Jazz got screwed.
Even if true, it couldn't have gone through on draft day. It involves Jazz going up to the new cap. Until then, they were still bound by the old cap numbers plus all holds.
It would be an astounding trade. But some of the activity around it fits: DL having to reassure Hood and his agent about their commitment to him; keeping Lyles out of summer league; having conversations with Neto and giving terse statements about Booker. I'm not getting my hopes up, but DAMN...just imagine that starting lineup!

If you add Carmelo to our team, we are competing for a title. Melo has only missed the playoffs twice, took a terrible Denver team to the playoffs his first year, and won a national title by carrying his team. Anthony is a very good player and we'd be crazy to not trade for him if he was available.

I don't get why Jazz fans don't like very, very good players. It's unreal. Don't you guys want to win? You need stars to win, most stars are bitches, and stars don't play defense. That's why there are role players. To do the Charlie work.

Carmelo will never play for a small market again. He is more vested in playing "shark tank" at this point in his career than actually being on the court.

So if I'm understanding correctly:

We've got a massive trade on our hands. A blockbuster. We give up a heap of trash and land a superstar. At least part of this has been in the works for going on a week and a half. It's been pretty tight-lipped. Nobody in local or national media has heard or reported anything about it. Luckily at JF PKM has an inside scoop. Even though he's said nothing -- absolutely nothing -- I'm certain we're about to land a superstar (Paul George or Carmello [or both!!])

Everybody order your season tickets before the big announcement and they sell out for the next decade.

BTW, why would the whole trade depended on Hibbert/Lopez? It doesn't make sense. The main pieces in the trade are still on the table. Hibbert was just shopped for a second round pick, he's an insignificant part of that trade, especially when the Knicks managed to get a good center for free anyways. It shouldn't be a deal-breaker if NYK still want to rebuild and if the Pacers still want Carmelo and are willing to give up PG.

The rumored deal never made sense to me from a Knicks perspective in the first place -- giving up Melo for Hibbert and some picks. That would have been a mixed message -- competing now vs. rebuilding. But if there's any truth to the rumor, it must have meant that Knicks saw some value in Hibbert.

But even if it did make sense for the Knicks somehow originally, I'd have to think that it makes less sense now. Why give up Melo for even less in return?

I love Hoods game, but his health worries me.
He seems to be one of those guys that is perpetually injured. One of the big reasons I thought Booker should have been the pick.

Burks coming off a season long injury, and Rodney who is down again (even if its slight im seeing a pattern forming) do not make me confident they are enough.

I hope this doesnt come back to bite us in the ***.

Mr. Glass.

Maybe all those teams ahead of the Jazz, who had hood in for a workout, and had their doctors look at him, learned something that made them pass on hood in the draft.

As for lyles, who is his agent? Is he another Max Ergon, or Paul Milsaps uncle? Some guy trying to make a name for himself?

Dude, he missed 32 games. That's it. A few of those were some sickness DNP's too.

He never missed a game in college. He isn't injury prone. He just caught a bad injury early (plantar fasciitis) and tried to come from it too early which caused some problems.

Harrell is a 2nd round pick though. 2nd round picks typically play SL without signing a contract, right?

Oh, wow! He really fell to the second. I forgot about that. Yeah... I don't know about that then...

Trey Lyles anticipated some contract complications soon after being drafted 12th overall by the Utah Jazz.

Weird that a player anticipated contract issues.

Maybe it has something to do with playing on the Canadian team?
