Trey Lyles Highlights from Last Night #1

Pretty sure Lyles was one of the best off the dribble mid-range shooters in college last year, which leads me to believe the talks of his balance being a worry are bunk.
I would be curious about this.
I remember seeing a stat that he shot like 37% from mid range (like 10-18 feet I think it was).
Maybe he was really good at off the dribble mid range shots but just didn't take nearly as many of them as he did catch and shoot set mid range shots.

He shot poorly in catch and shoot, pretty sure he was at, or possibly above 50% on off the dribble midrange shots.

However, he did knock down 28 of his 58 jumpers inside the arc (48.3 percent).
.

Shot terrible from deep though. That makes sense because his shot is flat. Flat shots have trouble extending range. Has to put more arc on it.

Starting at 3:00 you can see some jump shots.

All I see is good balance.

I'm growing more and more to like this kid, he seems like a very smart player. Some of those passes were way legit, and he had the smarts to get fouled. Give it time and we will be looking back and saying the Jazz grabbed the right player in the draft

Posted this in the Game Thread but thought it might be relevant here:

That's some nice confidence from the young man. Tells me he has basketball IQ galore picks up things pretty quickly.

PKM - can you confirm? Or is he simply pulling our legs?

Now why would PKM know that? He knows a few things about these Kentucky players but did not father them.

He looks really shifty and crafty for a player his size. He's got enough of a triple threat--shoot, pass, drive--that he can freeze his defender a bit with subtle fakes and without actually moving much. Interesting player. He just needs to get stronger so he can explode more and move guys.

At times, he reminds me of Boozer out there. Gonna drive me crazy. The way he sets his arms and hands when waiting for the ball. Things like that look a hell of a lot like Boozer.

He sure looks like an NBA player though. No doubt bout that.

He does need to rebound and defend to get consistent minutes, but he's a very savvy offensive player. Great ballhandling and passing ability and great mid-range game. He brings a real skillset that Favors/Rudy don't have right now.

His jump shot looks good to me. All of his misses were barely off. I like his form a lot.

I see a lot of Boozer in his overall game.

I like his highlights. I can see the Boozer comparison in that he seems to nonchalantly make jumpers after receiving the pass and look for contact when he can. Definitely plays differently in a lot of ways though.

I have no problem if he looks a lot like Boozer on offense. Now if he starts waving as guys run past him on defense I have a problem.

I thought his fundamentals and IQ looked very good, let a lone being his first game with minimal practice time. I thought his team defense was good on the perimeter, he would get help on the guard and then seamlessly get back to his man, he did struggle at rim protection and a little in post defense but overall I came away impressed with his defense, seemed smooth and not rushed.

Rebounding was my only main concern but he did box out well just didn't see enough of going after the ball aggressively but then IMO every big man on the SL roster outside of Cooley and Johnson looks worse than Lyle's.

IQ and passing on offense left me very impressed, he seemed to understand what he wanted, needed and was supposed to do along with his teammates (again for especially for minimal practice) he definitely left me impressed and wanting to see more in the LV Summer League.
