An offense designed to (only) get Al Jefferson the ball is a major FAIL imo..... Why, working inside out seems to work (esp in playoffs) & hopefully it has clicked w/ Al that passing back out opens up the game for everyone...
Corbin hasn't shown to be very competent. Isn't developing the young players, bad rotations, poor job of preparing and motivating his team to play on the road, lack of in-game adjustments, inability to exploit matchups, bad use of timeouts/end of game plays, and most of all a complete FAIL of an offensive system. In this condensed season, I think he is trying to keep everyone involved. Enes is soo young & outside of his put-packs, his O still needs work (4th big). Burks aggressiveness is a breath of fresh air but we are just so deep at the wings, it's hard to get him playing time w/o the risk of losing CJ/Bell's contribution in this truncated season. My only criticism is Coach not playing the hot hands to close out the games (but he's not Coach Pop).
Even with Masked Mamba and Deron Williams on this team, this offense would still be fail. They'd stand around the 3 point line and feed the ball to Jefferson. Jefferson would then continue to shoot low percentages, never get to the FT line, and try and score against triple teams. Jazz would still be losing and the rest of the players would remain frustrated. This team is still missing a perimeter threat. This is where i think Klay Thompson (taken just ahead of Burks) could've helped.
The lack of contributions we're receiving from Favors, Millsap, the PGs, and the wings is a direct result of a stagnant offense that isn't putting guys like Hayward in successful positions. In fact, other than Jefferson, who is having success in this offense? Burks stands out because HE DOESN'T RUN THE OFFENSE. He freelances, drives, gets to the hole and FT line. He makes something out of nothing. He's creating success DESPITE the offense not because of it. Here is where I think Coach shouldve stayed w/ his gut & have Favors (foul trouble curtailed this move) start over Millsap & have Burks start in place of Raja (make a less is more trade, ala Brewer). Harris-Burks-Howard-Favors-Jefferson (Millsap/Hayward/Watson/CJ/Enes)
This has NEVER been true of the Jazz offense. Typically, the Jazz offense made poor players look average and average players look very good. Instead, we're seeing an offensive system that is making our good and talented players, (Harris, Favors, Millsap, Hayward, etc) look worse than they really are. Harris is at his best when his just pushes the ball, Favors is still raw but progressing nicely, Millsap should be the 3rd big, Hayward's shot may always be inconsistent, CJ played his best when slashing/not shooting 3s, Jefferson has been passing out of the post more, Howard has been a nice pick-up, Watson is great has been great w/ the kids, Bell should get traded to a contender, & Burks/Enes' have been casualties of a the lockout/NCAA eligibility.
The ONLY person who is looking half decent is Jefferson. Because the offense is (too) oriented towards him. I bet if we had knock-down shooters, this team would be much better w/ the way we utilize Al.
For example, take Hayward for example. Hayward's game isn't to stand out by the 3 point line and feed the ball inside ala Kyle Korver. His game is more of an AK style, slashing, coming off picks, and creating off the dribble. Sounds like he & Burks are the same type of player then.
It's Ty's job to put players like Hayward in successful positions. He hasn't. Hence, our offense for a better portion of 2 years has sucked. Ya can't blame the horrible offense all on the losses of Booz, Memo, and Deron. Coach did have Hayward come off the bench & I think he should continue to do so, w/ Burks starting over Bell (please trade him to LAC for their TPE)
