What's new

ty lawson to the jazz?

I have a funny feeling what's holding up this deal is to do with extra draft picks coming Utah's way or the right to swap future picks.

Every year at this time, the overwhelming majority of deals get done right at the trade deadline. I think what's holding up the deal is that the Jazz are waiting to see if they get a better offer.

Mavs last year gambled on rondo and look where that went.

straight to the **** hole.
I think they were counting on rondo to be their starter and a star and a core piece.

Don't think that's the case with lawson and the jazz

I'm hoping they leaked this to drop the asking price on George Hill. He's a perfect fit here

Ya, definitely rather have hill

his team isnt doing well.

is he maybe part of the problem?

didnt boston go on a big run soon as they traded him?
They won a championship with rondo too iirc

I was thinking this was a great move to lower the asking price on Teague but Hill works. I can't see Lawson coming to Utah or Utah even wanting him.

I think it's worth the gamble. I'm for it, so long as we only have to give up Pleiss as the added player, not Ingles (I don't think Johnson's salary would be enough).

1. Trey isn't part of the Jazz future, mainly because he wants out.
2. Therefore, we cut ties and get a formerly elite PG, who quite frankly Trey never will be as good as he was, and hope Lawson returns to form
3. Nothing to lose with Lawson because he's not guaranteed next year.

You're the first I've seen who's really pointed out the possibility of how bad Burke's team wants out of Utah.

Cheers, and thanks for the coverage. Thanks for posting this too.

PR office refused to make Burke available after practice Wed. It sure sounds like it's gonna happen....

"At least one Jazz player would have to be added to the deal to make the salaries work, but sources said Utah is seriously weighing a gamble on Lawson as part of a long-running search to bring in a veteran point guard for the stretch run.”

I'm thinking The Jazz are trying to pull in a 3rd team to make the numbers work.

Also, I have to point out the obvious:

Ty Lawson = Very Fast
Utah pace = Very Slow

How is this gonna work? Maybe they're thinking the booze has slowed Lawson down a bit.

Why is it impossible for the Jazz pace to improve? Gobert and Fav can both run.

Ppl worried about the pace are failing to understand that our pace is slow BECAUSE of our PG play.

As I recall, Quin tried to get the Jazz to play faster, but said they didn't have the personnel. One of the main problems was Trey. Trey had a bad habit of stopping and coming back for the ball after his team got a defensive rebound, thus killing break opportunities when his teammates would run. Quin and DL both made a point of discussing pace and publicly pointed to treys bad habit of turning back. Still, Trey kept doing it in games. I haven't paid attention for a while, but I suspect he still does it.

Maybe Benji should have worked on that with his son.

A large part of that reason is because our point guard play blows and both Neto and Burke suck at finishing. The latter may be the worst point guard I've ever seen run a fast break. But Lawson can push the pace while Hayward and Hood trail. Attack and finish for Lawson, a dish to one of those trailers for the layup, or the two stop at the three-point line as Lawson kicks it out for a wide-open three.

Oh baby.

Generally speaking (there are exceptions) defensive oriented teams run at a slower pace.

The bigger issue is The Jazz don't have the offensive pieces to be competitive with the top-tier teams in a shoot out.

Thinking Ty Lawson is gonna just turn all that around is silly - as is thinking The Jazz are going to change their offensive schemes for a guy who looks like he's checked out and on (most likely) a 30 game rental. Call me when we get Chris Paul.

And please - Favors in the open court is far from his strong point.

agreed big time! lawson is not the answer and he is not even that good. never was. we do not need a head case, mental issue, troublemaker. teague or even calderon would suit just fine with me. cp3? really now? ain't gonna happen so do not wait by the phone.
and we can compete with teams in the west bec when we are healthy and on our game at both ends teams do not want to face us. well maybe g.s.

Jazz play faster?
Hayward, young and pretty fast for his position
Burks, young and very fast for his position
Hood, young and fast enough
Gobert, young and runs the floor well.

Favors is kind of slow moving and seems to struggle to consistently run the floor and gets fatigued.

I think lyles is young and can run.

I would love for the jazz to go more up-tempo

Also, speed can help in a slow paced half court offense as well.

Speed is always good.... Especially at the speediest position in basketball.

I don't see how lawson betting really fast could be looked at as a bad thing in any way

Plus we'd be dumping Pleiss who isn't cheap (2.9M) for what he brings to the table which is nothing.
