There's not too much in the article actually, it's just a company press release detailing a bit of his background. If his son jumps on a the board of a Nat Gas producer in New Guinea or some other place that isn't a global hot spot right now, that isn't dependent on Gazprom Russian nat gas, no biggie. This? Seems like another great example of kleptocracy in action. Probably more to this story as it plays in the months ahead. Just a company to watch in the future as this situation rolls on, and as the IMF loans roll in, etc. The money always tells the real story, right?
 
At a summit in China right now the President of China is calling for a security pact that excludes America. Possible signess (only called ofr at this point, no formal talks) would include China, Russia and Iran. In doing so he mentiones "three forces". Wonder who/what he meant..

Also China and Russia just signed a major gas deal.

Basically an almost 300 truck convoy from Russia was stopped at the border with Ukriane. There was an agreement to inspect the trucks and let them in under the Red Cross's management. Well Russia claims that it was taking to long and that Ukraine is stonewalling. They sent in about 70 trucks without inspection and not under the Red Cross's conrtrol. Those trucks entered rebel held territory in Ukraine. As Ukraine promised they are viewing this as a "direct invasion" by Russia.

Ukraine and NATO are pissed and accusing Russia of all sorts of things. Russia in returnhas thousands of troops along their border with Ukraine and is warning agaisnt anyone "disrupt"ing the convoy.

Why does USA try to stop humanitarian aid? This is madness. First they blame Russia for shooting down airplane when they know it is not Russia. Now this? Having CIA and M16 now shooting mines off at convoys. America is trying to start Cold War?

Why is it okay for Obama to enter Syria for humanitarian aid but when it is Russians getting slaughtered in Crimea the Obama chears on deaths and warns Mother Russia not to save our people? Madness America has gone mad.
 
I know what this war is about. Big oil is trying to force Russia to shut off gas to Ukraine because shale gas boom has made a glut so now USA has built exporting facilities to sell to Ukraine at monopoly premium. All American wars is over oil.

As much as I hate to respond to any of your drivel, you actually have a point here. WTS, stfu idiot. It's about a lot more than this and Obama has exercised a whole lot of patience dealing with Russia throwing a temper tantrum. We would have been in there in point oh two if it weren't for the Jackass on the other side. That's why we entered Syria and not Ukraine.

This "war" is about nothing more than Russia crying in the beer because Ukraine wanted to join the Euro Union a.k.a. US allies. People make up so much stupid **** to explain away the obvious. If you read one word of anything outside US bar room "pontificating" bull ****... you sound like the religious fanatics at my work that plague my ears with their afternoon pretend-to-be-smartness. NATO is not moving forward on an increased permanent presence in eastern Europe. Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia in particular are desperate for a larger NATO presence.

Some NATO countries are buying newer and more weapons and increasing defense spending. Such as Greece upgrading their airforce.

So in short:

Russia has gotten NATO better treaties with non NATO countries (Finland, Sweden), increased weapons and military supply caches, military spending, training and a stronger eastern european presence. Something no one else has been able to even remotely do.

This is what ending the cold war was supposed to avoid. This is the reason Russia feels threatened and wants to protect the EU buffer zone. It's not all good.

Of course this will make Russia feel more threatened. Russia felt threatened by Ukraine pulling away from its influence and it took the action it has as a result. That lead to the NATO states on Russia's borders (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) getting worried that Russia will do to them what it did to Georgia and now Ukraine. So they have been literally screaming for this, particularly Poland that has called for a permanent NATO force on its territory of 10,000 men and that ballistic missles be aimed at Russia.

I also agree that this just increases tensions over there and leads to further potential misunderstandings and "crises".

Was just showing how NATO is getting everything it wanted. They have by far been the biggest benefactiors of this.

I understand, Stoked. I was only pointing out that usually seeing the upside without the downside comes back to bite. I don't want another cold war, nobody does, but that's the way this looks to be playing out of sorts if you read the media.

In the end, I think Russia goes running with a tail between the legs and resigns to losing standing in the world if they continue refusing to join it. The USSR generation is quickly dying out in that area of the world and the young not only no longer associate with that mentality but they want to step away from it and embrace the new world. That's the entire reason for this Ukrainian business -- the young refused USSR and wanted instead to join a peaceful world with free trade and mutual cooperation.

Also, Russia should have their people back that want to be Russian. They can have the Crimea, it's their people. Let's carve out some new boundaries bases on local elections and let it be. I think that's the goal world leaders are currently working towards, while those caught in the middle suffer through the fighting. It's sad, diplomacy and honesty would be a whole lot better but everyone has to save face and play the game to appease the voting blocks.

A tank only made in Russia and owned by Russia being used in Ukraine. That means that 1 of three things happened:

1. Russia is fighting in Ukraine

2. Russia is supplying weapons to the rebels

3. The rebel stole it from Russia

Thoughts? Will NATO respond? Will Ukraine? If they do is it justified?
 
What I found funny is the DPR's Prime Minister saying "Yes, there are Russians in Ukraine, but they are on vacation/leave."

Lol, that did make me smile as well. NATO has upped the ante on Russia already. They publicly announced that they are going to establish permanent bases in eastern european NATO countries. basically putting NATO troops at Russias door. While this is not a direct response it obviously sends a message as no NATO troops along its borders has been a huge sticking point for Russia for years.

But I agree in that I do not think NATO send troops into Russia or Ukraine.
