What's new

*** Utah Jazz @ Detroit Pistons Wednesday October 28th 5:30 MT Official Game Thread***

this. What if we ended with Neto and Burks, didn't throw Hood in? Would we have given up that bucket to Jackson?

These are the questions we gotta ask when running 3 wings.

The bucket was on Gobert more. Jackson was there against anyone all night, he would just run under the baseline because we actually had help on the rim.

0 for 2 from the field and a +/- of -29 in just 16 minutes, including being outplayed by Steve Blake. He didn't get in the game in the 4th qtr.

Meanwhile, Neto in his first NBA game ever, pulls 8 pts and 3 assists on 3/6 shooting, including 2/2 from 3-pt range. He guarded both Reggie Jackson and Steve Blake pretty well. He ended with a +/- of +12.

****.

Jazz are going to take awhile to get going.

yup. just 1 game. Still think Burke can be good for us this season. He's gotta bounce back, and I think he will.

I'm skeptical. He hasn't shown he can create offense, and he can't defend. The only difference this year is that he's trying to do less (less usage), but he's still about the same player.

I don't put too much stock in the +/- stat. But I think it's directionally valid. Neto's +/- is 41 pts. better than Trey Burke's in a game where the Jazz lost by basically 1 possession.

Again, the 3-wing lineup can be run for stints, but I highly doubt it ever picks the normality. No way is Burks playing more than 10 minutes at the 1 (which is what I had predicted for him) a game this season.

It's not just Burks. We are a better team when Trey 'Pyrite' Burke is not on the floor. They can play Sap next to Hayward and we would be better, at least we would get some ****in D.

Not sure where you're getting -29 from. Box score has him at -15. Which is still very bad, but let's not exaggerate.

Well CLE and ATL already lost once as well. Rockets, Grizz and one of Spurs/Thunder are losing as well.

They started slow last year. It took awhile to get comfortable with new roles and they got worked hard in practice last year and this year. They have new roles this year again. I think they don't find consistency for the first 10 to 20 games. They are also opening up the play book. Players are thinking a lot and that slows them down and not just playing freely, that will come when they get comfortable.

Tough loss but I liked how the Jazz fought back. Our bench is still pretty thin. I liked Stanley Johnson in the draft and think he is going to be really good. Any contribution from Burke tonight would have been a victory. He was horrible. Jazz also missed Booker tonight. Favors looked like an All-star most of the game and then came back cold in the fourth.
Quinn kept out the starters too long in my book and I don't know why Neto wasn't guarding Jazz at the end. Hood has trouble keeping up with guards.

Alec needs to get back on defense but he was pretty tough down the stretch. Jazz need some more scoring off the bench. In my opinion our depth was hurt with Exum's injury. I think Neto is the backup when Exum comes back and Trey's days are numbered. I hope Trey can bounce back and give us some scoring off the bench.

Jazz let too many of these games get away from them last year, they need to not put themselves into these situations or they better start winning most of these games because the margin of error in the west is small.

Overall, I didn't expect them to win this game being it was on the road and game one jitters/rust always seem to derail the Jazz. Jazz need to weather the storm these first 12 games (9 road games) and not let a tough loss turn into 3 or 4 games. You don't want to bury yourself early in the season. Oh well on to the next game.

lol love seeing Burke hate. It'll make his emergence that much more satisfying.

Gonna go to work. Good game, excited for the season. Our defense is still for real FWIW (as we saw at the end of the 4th). Biggest, most important take-away for me.
