Utah Jazz @ Portland Trailblazers Game Thread

Yes, both teams we have struggled with. But starters do not look good yet. Was hoping to see more rhythm tonight.

Rudy had a hard time tonight. I think he struggled a bit against Portland last year too.

The 500 ton elephant in the room - Jazz staters clearly outplayed by Toronto and Portland staters.

Rubio and Favors are both fairly limited offensively. That's part of the issue. But the Jazz are being outplayed by these other teams' stars. It was Kawhi Leonard and Damian Lillard that made the difference. The Jazz don't yet have that dominant offensive player. But Mitchell is coming...

I really think Niang becomes a rotation player this season. He’s much less of a defensive liability than Grayson and his shooting and passing is something I don’t think the other bigs bring.

Shoots and moves the ball better than Jae...I’m not sure Thabo is the defensive plus he used to be... obvi Favs doesn’t bring much shooting but has lots of other stuff.

Crappy game overall. Really hope we get into a better rhythm pretty soon.

Dante looked fantastic tonight... Royce had another solid game.

I’m somewhat concerned on Favs. Grayson seems like a deadeye shooter... his defense is atrocious.

DM took some weird shots from midrange... struggled at the rim... figure he’s playing around with stuff right now.

Favors looked good to me.

Despite their 4:0 record UTA should be a bit worried about how they got outplayed by TOR and POR's first units. POR's big three shot 25/33 (76%) this game.

UTA's bench is world class, should help them have a remarkable regular season.
Really happy with all particularly O'Neale and X. I still am not a fan of Crowder's shot selection.
GA had +25 in 14 minutes, Udoh +20 in 7 mins!! Graywolf changed the game as soon as he stepped on the court with his energy, leadership and speed. Looks like Coach Q needs to find minutes for this dude..

Starters have probably been told not to go overboard since it's only preseason. Nothing to be alarmed. They'll heat up soon enough.

Favs will be fine, he was sick last week, i'm pretty sure he'll find his mojo

The starters in particular Rubio and Favors have struggled. I expect both to pick it when the season starts. You can't really get much out of preseason when it comes to analysis because it is preseason. I have liked the improved scoring off the bench. I think the Jazz depth will be a huge factor during the season. I am ready for the regular season to start.

I’m not to worried. It’s the same starting unit as last year and there is a much larger sample size that says the starting unit is good.

Dante did look good. I hope he can be an elite back up who can drive and dish, hit a solid 3 point %, and plus defender. We will have an advantage over a lot of teams 2nd units if Dante can max out his skills.

Crowder looks like he could be the odd man out. Or Thabo. Those two players seem like the clear place we could upgrade.

I expected Thabo will start slow, but I think hes a valuable player. Crowder is going to have good moments too.
They both might have big years for us, but if I was a betting man I see those two guys are potential trade upgrade targets.

Rubio hasn't played much this preseason, so the speed with which Portland plays might've had an effect on his rhythm. They do play fast, but Dante plays even faster. He was always quick but now he looks even quicker, I think, because he has more confidence. Can anyone in the league stay in front of him? Favors just is too slow against a team like Portland -- can't see us beating them playing two bigs. He'll be better against other teams. Niang could become another Ingles, has similar skills.

Where is the vaunted Jazz defense? Both Toronto and Blazers ripped our defense to shreds. I'm starting to get concerned. Favors looks slow. Somehow Crowder loses 15lbs and seems less athletic. Grayson seems unable to make the simple plays (outlet pass, staying between man and rim), hopefully he settles down and focuses on the basics.

On the plus side I thought Mitchell, Rubio, and Gobert look ready to go. And at least for the Blazer game Exum looked READY TO GO. Pretty excited for Exum this year. He was the one bright spot for me from the Blazer game. I think if Portland wants to play a 3 guard lineup we should match them with Exum at the 3 and Ingles at the 4.

Here is hoping that Favors and Crowder find their game before the season starts.

What's with all this whining about Allen - the kid's a rookie and has shown more than enough to be happy about. Considering where he was drafted you should be ecstatic.

This is where you put your money where your mouth is and show some trust in Quin and his staff - he's either going to play the right way or he isn't going to play at all. The Corbin era is over.

I think i already prefer niang to jae and thabo.
