Utah Jazz Summer League Topic

Funny, a little more than a decade and a half ago, this question would sound weird.

And remember kids, if you ever use Jazzfanz App, use it safe.

My $.25 opinion: Trey is the man. Great performance. Pleiss ought to be waived. We lost the Kanter trade. JJ was awful, tip of the hat to Butterfield and Christmas. Interesting stats that the only guys with + numbers were Paige, Wallace and Ford for what it's worth. I thought Bolomboy looked worse than the first night. He appears to not be NBA ready. I suspect that Pleiss, Paige, Wallace, and Ford will be Salt Lake Stars. I think four players is the max that the big team can designate.

If Pleiss is under contract then he doesn't count towards the 4 they can designate. He would just be assigned there.

I have a Pleiss question for anyone who knows the CBA/cap stuff.

If Pleiss is 3 million dollars this year and we cut him, does he still count against the books? So, since we are X amount of dollars below the floor (I think it's like 6 million? Just a guess though) we have to pay that out to our guys in bonuses at the end of the year if we dont somehow get to the floor. So if it does count against the books and we get an extra 3 million below the floor by cutting Pleiss, the Jazz would just have to pay an extra 2 million dollars in bonuses (assuming we sign Bolomboy who would cost <1 million on his first year).

If that is the case, I dont see us cutting Pliess because that would be spending 6 million dollars just to get him off the team.

His next year is not guaranteed. If the Jazz cut him (or more likely buy him out so he can go back to Europe), they're on the hook for his contract this year and nothing more. On the flip side, they can trade him and Diaw at the deadline, giving another team $10 million in cap space next year if a valuable acquisition for the offseason came available. I'm thinking Rudy Gay in particular. Jazz could throw some picks at Sacramento, match the salaries, rent him for the last part of the season and have his Zbird rights if they want to retain him in the offseason.

I thought we're on the hook for his contract OR the difference between what he was owed and what another team may sign him for. In other words, if some team signs him for 1M per, we only have to pay 2M. I'm probably wrong here but I thought this is the way it worked.

I thought so too. But would anyone actually sign him?

He counts against the books if he's simply cut and not picked up.
It appears that you don't understand the floor.

There are going to be enough teams below the floor that I think we could dump him.

The motivation to do so would be to open up a roster spot if there is someone we like that is available and to cut salary to pay favors. We have enough space to do so, but I don't think we spend up to the cap... I think we go just above the floor. If favs does not want an extension we could cut him. And I think we could add another player and still be around the floor.

I just don't see the scenario where he gets court time this year. If he does not get court time this year would we pick up his option? If the answer is no then don't waste a spot and coaching staff time.

Court time? He's not getting much in Summer League because he's so bad. I know I'm being harsh on the guy, but I have to be honest. If I were him and saw my post, I would be upset. But, Tibor, just be thankful you're 7-3 and got to be a professional basketball player. Few people get that far, but you're out of your league in the NBA. Sorry. Maybe you can distinguish yourself in some other field? You got enough money to give you the time to do that.
