Because our current 2nd rounders suck. If we got someone good, we would make room for them. Having a lot of 2nd round picks is good. You never know when you can package them to move up to a team just looking to draft random euros.

When was the last time a team packaged second round picks to move up in the draft?

We don't have 5 roster spots next year... figure one or two of those are euros, but still I doubt we add more than 2 rookies to next year's roster... one or two of those picks will be sold. I'd rather sell one now (forcing Tibor's salary as the sales price) and get a roster spot. roll the dice with someone that gets cut and give them a 3 or 4 year unguaranteed deal. or offer someone like Wood (not sure what his situation is with Philly, but they have a roster crunch) a bit more than the minimum and give more guaranteed money to next year to get them in the program.

Just cut him if you don't want him. Giving up an asset would be short sighted.

I mean this year, we were what, 3 picks away from being able to draft McCaw til the Warriors swooped in. You never know who is going to fall to your 2nd round pick and what might be there.

If Favors or Hill don't take a renegotiation and extension then I'd do that... If Favs is renegotiated then we'd save $3M by moving Tibor. Money is an asset too.

We actually have 4 second round picks next year... I bet we sell at least one... we've done so seemingly every year.

Yeah, we could sell one, by that is done on draft day when you can see who is available.

We have two first rounders... One which will be really late. We have Det/Ny/Gsw 2nds plus our own. I'm assuming we could trade one and still get the guy we love that drops.

Yeah but we could package those first rounders in a trade, you never know. Just doesn't seem like a smart move.

Yes, but the max we can take is $3M... we won't get that. If we did sell it during the draft it would count towards the total cash we can take in that year.

Also, we have 4 friggin second rounders.

That's what the Warriors paid to get McCaw. Did the dollar amount ever get reported for ours?

No idea. I'm not sure we have a second rounder that will be as high as McCaw was drafted. Last year's draft was deep/flat so I could see a similar pick not being worth as much even though 2017 is seen as a better draft.

I do think there would be a little backlash if DL had to attach a pick to dump one of the assets we acquired in the Kanter deal.
