What's new

Utah Jazz to make logo changes this offseason or next. Likely looking to make the Jazz note logo pri

I guess there is admin work involved in making the changes to the website & merchandise, etc, etc, etc. Also may be to prevent the teams from making the changes too often.

So you're saying Greg Miller doesn't just draw something up on Paint and submit it as the new logo?

Put Utah somewhere near the logo.

Make the green jersey the primary one.

Blue the alt.

Start selling a green Gobert Jersey!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't know the Jazz had a new ownership group.. that's news to me.

Does anybody know when we had a change in ownership?

So, I probably mis-wrote that. Let's put it this way: Larry Miller was far more frugal with the expenses of the team overall, from front office to marketing to advertising to upgrades, etc than the people currently in charge. His death, the hiring of Dennis Lindsey, and the new more owner-friendly CBA (and the millions of dollars in revenue sharing the Jazz now receive) has meant a total change in how much money the Jazz are willing to spend off the court in order to chase a contender.

The upgrades to the Jazz locker room, ZBBC, greatly expanded FO and coaching staff, purchase of the Idaho Stampede, etc. all reflect that. As well as their new willingness to pay this fee to change the primary logo.

Thanks for the clarification Andy, great to have you participate on Jazzfanz as well, love your work :)

You know what would be cool? If Utah sports reporters didn't use Jazzfanz for their research. Srsly none of us know what we're talking about.

The Favors trade rumours didn't come from Jazzfanz though, Jody got that all on his own.

Because Jody was doing his job.

Maybe instead of going at Burke on twitter Andy should be doing a piece to highlight Burke's work in the off season. Our job as fans is to be whiny bitches when players don't play as well as we hope they would. Andy's job as a journalist is to provide us fans with some information we don't already know. It isn't to regurgitate our frustrations.

I haven't seen that, Andy has been one of the better Jazz journalist over recent years. He's also really professional with his tweets IMO.

Anyone hear how the Pacers are gonna wear the exact jerseys from the film Hoosiers a couple times this year? That's badass...and ironic considering five black guys will be wearing the units of a team who was five white guys.

I hope this spurs the Jazz to do finally do a Stars night where they bust these out and pay homage to the Utah Stars. Something I've been wanting them to do for years.

Haha, I did take the Trey Burke highlight video from here, and posted it along with my snarky comment. However, occasionally I do my job and get news like this logo change thing. It depends on what conversations I'm able to have that day, etc.

I don't know if that's quite fair. Rightly or wrongly, I consider myself an analyst too, and pointing out that Trey was historically bad (like, first player in 50 years with >1000 shots and <37% FGA bad) last season is part of that. Some fans know that, some don't.

Now, should I have been as snarky as I was? I can't decide. On one hand, it's not a very professional look, and it was definitely rude to Trey. It makes some people mad. On the other, some people like snarky jokes. They're entertaining, Bill Simmons has made a career of them. I asked on Twitter the other day if I should continue making snarky jokes, and most people felt I should.

Maybe the key is to be funnier with them.

I don't know about anyone else but I for 1 would take an informative & professional tweet over a snarky one any day. I really enjoyed what Brian T Smith did with his twitter account a few years back for the Tribune, he was very professional and informative and was always very on point. On the other hand I have never enjoyed Bill Oram or Jody's tweets... I just think they are too snarky and self serving.

David Locke for all his flaws have always treated his twitter account with respect IMO and I don't think I have had any issues with his tweets. Zach Lowe is young but he is doing well very analytical and very professional. The same goes with a whole host of other NBA writers, David Aldridge, Mark Stein... these guys didn't need to be snarky and yet they are able to have long lasting careers and a well respected one at that.

Andy, have you considered disabling the comments under your KSL articles? Do those people even watch basketball?

They very much like to brag that they do not watch basketball. But more comment views = more PVs and more time on site, and therefore more $ from advertisers. I waffle between commenting and not commenting.

YES!!!
I'm old enough to remember the Stars' championship. I loved the ABA. As a kid I used to shoot 3's with the old red, white and blue basketball. Followed Moses Malone and Ron Boone to the NBA. Didn't watch much NBA before that; it was all ABA as my father was a sportswriter at the time for a local paper, (Utah Sporting News, I believe - long since defunct like the Stars).

Larry H should have included a case somewhere in the ESA with Stars' memorabilia. That would have been a class act.

Yep, snarky tweets directed at a 2 year player that has already been bumped down the rotation is sure to launch you onto the national stage.

lol

I think the key is that Bill Simmons is interacting with the athletes he is being snarky too. They are more impersonal to him. The fact you, on some level, know and interact with Trey kind of takes the dick factor to another level.

I didn't know that. I don't follow any Twitter accounts. Guess I've been justified in wanting Trey gone.

Any Jazz beat writer that doesn't read this forum isn't doing their job, IMO.
