Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs 7/7/2015 @7pm Mountain Time *Official SL Game Thread*

I am right here. Sticking with my statement too. You have such a limited time frame of watching Cotton... Cotton is a pure pass first PG. He struggles creating his own offense but its too early based on 2 summer league games to say whether or not he deserves a spot.

I'll back Bryce till his dream is no more, and hope that's many years away, but I think we are seeing two different players. Bryce is good at creating his own offense, and as far as being a pass first pg, well, I just don't think so. He was pressed into duty as Providence's pg in his senior year only because Kris Dunn missed a year from injury. Dunn is the archetypal pass first assist machine. Bryce could never be described that way, IMHO. That said, who was not impressed at how much he grew into the role of pg in his senior year? Utah wants a pg who can facilitate. Hoping against hope that his shooting rhythm returns, but it's the assists that the coaches would most like to see from our guy. I just don't think I could ever describe him as a pass first pg, but he can execute a nice pass. He can be better then we've seen so far through 2 games.
It ain't easy when a bunch of guys who have not played with one another much, or even at all, are thrown onto the floor and asked to be a team. That's not a formula for pretty play. But somehow Bryce has to make it happen. Regardless of small sample sizes, you have to play your way onto a roster. No excuses, fair or not.....

Edit: maybe compared to Trey Burke, he looks more like a pass first guard. That may be fair to say. But if Dunn had not been injured, Cotton would have been a tiny shooting guard in his senior year. All that said, he has the tools to be a decent pg. He's come light years in that respect. Let's face it. Dunn's injury paved the way for Cotton to be where he is right now. Who knew, when Dunn went down, that Bryce would have a senior year that should have earned him first team All American had he been on a much higher profile team? Everybody who saw Bryce in his senior year knows he should have been selected first team All American, hands down, IMHO......

Couple things:

Hope Cotton turns it around, I like his game.

Thee Jazz Fan got served hard by Abach! I mean Abach really has your number LOL!

The Hayward to Pippen comparison is a little premature. Pippen is in the Hall of Famer! He was so good. Hayward has been in the NBA 5 years. Let's wait before we compare him to an all-timer. My opinion, he will never get close to Pippen territory, but hey Gobert is the best Center of all time, who saw that coming!

We have a top 5 SF, top 5 PF, and top 5 C on our roster, and we have Exum and Hood are you kidding me
I don't disagree with you but I'd be interested to hear you list the top 5 for each of those positions.

I did it last night with my cousin (who lives in Utah but for some reason acts like he hates the Jazz) and it turned into a flat out argument. He's got names on his list that baffle me.

I just want to hear other people's opinions on this.

If we have a top 5 SF, a top 5 PF, and a top 5 C then why the hell didn't we come close to sniffing the playoffs last year? Love my jazz, but c'mon man, take off the homer goggles... we're still a while away from competing.
You do realize that the Jazz tied for the best record in the West post All Star break, right?

Playoffs this year, next year maybe move up 1 or 2 spots, 3-4 years from now top 4 in the west if Exum fulfills his potential and we stay relatively healthy we'll be championship contenders....

Thanks. I wasn't sure if being 3 to 4 years away meant playoff or true contention.

Also, who do you see being better than the Jazz in 3 to 4 years?

Basketball is basketball. You toss a ball through a hoop.

Oh...

Well, you wondered how a team could win with bad stats. The answer is that there were (relatively) bad players on both sides of the floor, the game is pretty non-competitive and there is little practice on the offensive strategy.

But yeah, it's all just tossing a ball through a hoop.
