Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

He’s saying that LoPo’s honor dictates that he find a trade scenario for Rubio to Cleveland that theoretically works - even if it doesn’t make sense.
I think I found it.

Cleveland gets some experienced Spanish vets for their playoff run as well as a young player with upside, San Antonio makes improvements, and the Jazz improve their defense.

I like Matt Moore... his trade ideas are really dumb. He tries to be too different sometimes. They fake traded Lebron to like 4 teams. I would put zero stock in his trade evaluations.

He did make it clear that he thinks there is absolutely no way LeBron is going to get traded. He just thinks that the Cavs should trade him because he thinks LeBron is going to walk. The crazy trade ideas just stemmed from that discussion but they weren't actually suggesting that any of them will happen. It doesn't mean the other information that he gave when they were discussing serious trade possibilities wasn't accurate.

Yeah they can give us Shumpert+Brooklyn pick or they can go to hell. We're not sure how Dante is going to look when he comes back, so there's no reason to trade Ricky unless someone blows us out of the water with an offer.

The issue with Hood, is that no matter what, the Jazz have to be in the trade market with the expectation that they will be seriously competing a few years from now, not this year. With that mindset the biggest factor in a trade should be potential. A good pick, or player for Hood would be awesome, but who's going to give us that? The league knows as much about Hood as we do. Trading him would likely result in getting a solid vet or something, whereas Hood could finally flip that switch any second. I know we have no evidence for that. But I do find it weird that Utah would be getting less from a potential standpoint in basically any realistic Hood scenario.

And Faves for Gortat and a first? Why am I excited about the Wizards pick in the 20's? Favors is no bum.

Now trading both for a player like Jabari is something I could definitely get behind.

I agree with this. DL isn't an idiot, and it's really unlikely that the Warriors are the same team in 2-3 years. That's our timeframe.

I think Favors might get us more than we are anticipating. He is playing really well this year and is a guaranteed expiring contract. For a team like the Cavs who don't want to pay anybody after this season, Favors makes perfect sense. He costs half as much as Jordan both in terms of salary and probably what the Clippers are demanding compared to what the Jazz are demanding.

If there really is a serious lack of available money around the league in 2018 free agency as everyone is suggesting, wouldn't young restricted free agents be in high demand and have increased trade value? These are guys who usually get overpaid. But this year if you have their bird rights you can theoretically keep them on cheap deals right? So wouldn't guys like Hood be in high demand?

I can just imagine Cleveland on the phone... we'll give you Crowder & IT for Joe Jesus, Rubio and Favors

How is it possible that they see basically equal value in Burks and Hood? I don't believe it. And Lou Williams would be such a better get for them.

But if they actually want to give us a first for Burks then **** yes.

OKC, like Detroit, Cleveland, etc., needs to win now because they want to keep Paul George long term. They probably feel like Burks provides a whole lot more than Singler and Abrines (which I think he does). They would prefer Hood, but that's dumb for us. For Burks, they would probably protect the 1st rounder a whole lot more than they would for Hood. I would think it would be some lottery protected pick in 2023 or 2024. I would still take it.

Heat want to give Tyler Johnson and Justice Winslow for Demarre Carroll? Has Winslow really shown so little, I thought he looked good his rookie season.

I'd take a flyer on that dude for so cheap. Give him a new atmosphere and some fun young teammates.

"According to Basketball Insiders’ Steve Kyler, OKC may be willing to part with future draft picks as part of a trade package to bring in a difference-maker. In his report, Hood and Burks were both name-checked as potential targets." Future draft picks basically means a 2021 2nd for Burks

I don't think Burks is great, but he's a major improvement over Abrines and Singler who provide absolutely nothing. If Burks can give them anything off the bench, it's an improvement. A highly protected pick way into the future is worth it for OKC if they can't find anything else.

And think about this - if OKC can trade Abrines AND Singler for Burks, they open up a roster spot which they can use on a vet that gets bought out soon. There are guys like Tony Allen, Jameer Nelson, JoeJ and others coming soon. OKC can essentially add two people (Burks and a bought out vet) for a lottery protected pick half a decade away.

They want to get out of Tyler Johnson bud. Winslow is the cost of that.
