Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I'm not gonna lie. I like (love actually) how Ricky has been playing recently but I would still probably trade him for a first round pick in a vacuum. My only concern would be the impact in the locker room. But the thing is that you control Donovan and Gobert for a while. It would be brutal to Ricky lol. I feel bad just thinking about his pouting face and those sad eyes in that situation. But anyway, I would strongly consider trading Rubio this year if I was offered a first round pick. My only concern with that would be how I felt about Exum moving forward. If I'm 80% sure he's a high level starter in the future I pull the trigger. If I'm less sure it changes how aggressive I am with Rubio. Part of me would love to see Rubio after a year of player development and with improved Chemistry in a lineup that is built even more around his strengths.

The most expedient route might be to just hold on and make that kind of decision before the next trade deadline. That gives you more time to see what you have with Exum and to see how consistent Rubio can be. Best case scenario you can still trade Ricky and he retains high-ish value because Exum explodes and is on a better contract. Worse case they both are terrible and you play DM at PG I guess.

Jazz need to extend Ricardo, not trade.

He did make it clear that he thinks there is absolutely no way LeBron is going to get traded. He just thinks that the Cavs should trade him because he thinks LeBron is going to walk. The crazy trade ideas just stemmed from that discussion but they weren't actually suggesting that any of them will happen. It doesn't mean the other information that he gave when they were discussing serious trade possibilities wasn't accurate.

I understand... I’ve listened to Matt for a long time... his views on contracts and players can be a little off of consensus. I’m just saying he ain’t Woj so take the “better offers” with a grain of salt.

I think we need to keep Ricky.

I think we need to be shopping Favors, Burks, JoeJ, Hood and even Thabo's expiring if any can get us something good in return.

I think the Rubio love is a little crazy right now... he’s been very good I’m happy about it... let’s see how it works long term. AB was great for a period of 5 or so games then it all went to hell. I think there is something real to his recent play but the shot has proven to run hot and cold. Last year he shot 44% on 3s in March. Last 10 games he’s shot 45% from 3... it will regress.

Enjoy it now but also realize that some of it is flukey and may not be sustainable. I’d be excited if it was doe.

In my mind, Rubio has always been a better overall player than George Hill ever was, even when he's struggled. The issue has been that Favors/Gobert/Rubio doesn't really work well together. I think now that we're showing that Rubio can thrive here, you keep him and resign Exum. Dante can still play 30 mpg with either Rubio or Mitchell on the court if we really believe in him.

Yup

Miami did some weird **** the last two years in free agency.

Was structured that way because of a weird cba nuance and designed to make Miami decide not to match. They wish it was not structured that way and hoped to trade him prior to the big increase.

The word on the street is that every Jazz player but Mitchell and Gobert are available for the right price. I personally would keep Rubio for the next 18 months until Exum is truly ready, but I'd sell for sure if the right offer came along.

I don't think that would be a smart move. He's played well in small spurts before. This could still be a mirage. Like I said I'm open to keeping him and seeing how he closes out the year. But I think he's making enough money that extending him would be a big risk that could cap out your championship ceiling. You just can't risk that for a guy with his history at this point. If he plays close to this level for the rest of the year, commits himself to getting better over the summer and then starts off next year playing the same way I'd consider an extension at that point.

I doubt you can get more than a 2nd for Neto, so I see no reason to trade him unless he is part of a bigger deal. I guess if a team was willing to part with a late first that would be a no brainer for the Jazz but that would seem crazy for him.

Rubio was awesome to start the season, then spiraled into a **** hole for a month or two, now hes awesome again. I just wanna know which Ricky is the real one

LOL... we can't give away our players right now. They've been on SALE for a good month, month and a half and still no takers.

Yep. A lot of the Rubio love coming from a lot of people who a couple weeks ago were about to jump off the cliff, thought for certain there'd be a trade, that the spacing was trash, and that we wouldn't win another game.

I think bottom line is that Ricky isn't as bad as what we saw last month, but the fit still isn't that good. We're currently clicking but there is a bit of fool's gold. Rudy/Derrick/Ricky can still be exposed. We're a decent team with probably one more decent skid left in us where everyone will go into a panic again, but when all is said and done we're either the team with the worst record in the lottery or we squeak in to the playoffs. 2-3 weeks ago, nobody wanted to hear that we weren't going to have a top 10 pick. Now nobody wants to hear that we aren't a dynasty.

Players rarely get traded before the deadline so that makes sense. I am sure the Jazz are waiting for the best deal and those come right at the deadline. But if a good enough deal doesnt come, we all know DL is happy standing still.
