Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

The nba trade market isn’t perfectly efficient either... so player x should have value y but unless you find a match with the right assets it doesn’t always work.

Oh well... who we gonna be fascinated with now.
Saric. Hood and Favors for Saric + Jerryd Bayless

They kind of showed their hand for this offseason too. If it looks like Boogie will come back then everyone knows they will want to offload Niko.

Nah, I see them bringing back Boogie slowly by having Mirotic. Next year, they can probably dump Ajinca's expiring using 2nd rounders. They might be in the luxury next season, but they could wiggle out with creative deals.

This is a very smart trade by NOLA. They are doing their best to maximize both AD and Cousins.

We didn't offer Hood. From Chicago reporters the rumor is Chicago wanted Hood, but the Jazz didn't want to give him up for Mirotic. And I agree. Hood should have higher value than disgruntled Mirotic demanding to be traded.

I'm not sure I'd trust these reports. Why would Chicago want Hood that much? He plays the same position as Lavine. We've been reluctant to turn over the SF spot to him, so why should Chicago be sure about that? I'm sure they were more interested in Hood along with a first than Johnson with a first. But I'm fairly convinced that it was the first that they wanted above all -- not Hood for Niko straight up, or maybe not even Hood plus a second.

BTW this is not over for Utah and Mirotic. The Pels will need to clear that capspace at draftnight(or after July 1st) in order to be able to give enough money to Cousins. I fully expect the Jazz to be a player for Mirotic then. Second + stuff for Mirotic... or something of that sort.

Keeping Niko and DMC means LT... they can move or waive Ajinca but with a full roster of minimum dudes they looking at 135M and offloading 14 M won’t be easy... especially with an asset cupboard that is bare.

I’ve said as much and maybe they already discussed it during the conversations... Thabo and Jerebko could move on draft night for Niko and they could decline the options.

Maybe that is why they picked up the option because they knew they had a fallback.

I’d love that deal but really doubt philly would do it... they might do their first rounder in place of saric though.

That's very optimistic. I'd like to imagine it's true, but that's a very optimistic thought.

Man if we stand pat Jazzfanz will melt. I can see a scenario where there isn’t anything good enough for Favs and Hood now and we end up just buying out JJ and going status quo.

I still think something gets done but I was overly optimistic we’d get this deal done.

Sad face.

I don't believe that NOLA is going to give Cousins a max contract. If anything, they might give him the max he would receive from a team that doesn't have his bird rights. The only owe about $92 million next year. Add in Cousins at say $25 million and then a couple minimum contract guys for a total of $35 million. They would be at $125 million give or take. They would be a Moore or Ajinca trade away from being at the luxury. And even if they do go into the luxury, one year isn't that bad. They don't have to be a repeat offender. Ajinca comes off in 2019 and Moore would be an expiring they could move.

I'd throw Hood and Favors NO way but whatevs. I give it a 15% chance Hood is actually traded. If he gets a bigger offer in FA than $15 per year then we'll let him walk.

We should probably do that one. I love this draft and it will be great having two top 15-16 picks in it either to pick players in it or to try to trade up for a big target.

I'm going to rage if we stand pat. And rage even more if we overpay to keep Hood and/or Favors.

Cousins max starts at 30M no matter what team signs him I believe. Niko makes a million or so more than Asik... add in the unguaranteeds that they pick up and they are at 125M with 10 guys. Add 4 minimum deals and you are around 130-131. Waive asik and stretch saves a few million but then you replace his salary and it ain’t that great. Moore is fine but not worth his contract. No one eats that for nothing. They might pay the tax but I think they’d avoid it if it only cost them Niko.

Now back to realistic players to target who can play PF especially next to Gobert:

Stanley Johnson - very rumored to be available.
Saric - not really rumored to be available, but there have been reports that the Sixers have interest in Hood.
Jabari - not rumored to be available, but many speculate that the Bucks might not want to pay him big.
Teletovic - a stretch 4 very similar to Mirotic. Bucks would probably give us an asset to take him. Blood clot issues....
Deng - terrible contract but a guy who could play for us AND give us assets.
Love - I'll put him on here because somebody will bring him up.
Ilyasova - Atlanta expiring said to be available for a 2nd. Has a no trade clause. Good idea for a playoff push.
Marvin Williams - great fit, terrible contract.
Wilson Chandler - ehhhh
Faried - double ehhhh
Gallinari - if we get the Pistons pick and can send Burks, that would be a good conversation starter.
JaMychal Green - good fit, not sure what Memphis would want.
Harkless - if we get an asset to take him.
Leonard - if we get a bigger asset to take him.
Aminu - I'd take him for an expiring maybe.
Vonleh - Interesting

If I'm missing a SF/PF or PF who could be available, I apologize. Please add them to the list.
