Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

If the Warriors actually try to trade for LeBron the NBA needs to veto it. League parity is already suffering big time.
Not gunna happen

DL is maintaining flexibility to sign LBJ and PG in the ofseason . Then we will match Hood.

If I was part of the Philly FO, In my personal estimation Saric would be almost untouchable along with Embiid and Simmons obviously.

Saric has shown to be the third best player on that team throughout most of the season, and at times was the best player in some games. He is their best hustle guy and has shown more heart than probably all other Sixers players, especially during their down games.

This leads me to my point that it won't, well at least it shouldn't be easy to pry him from Philly. Most of the trade suggestions revolving him in this thread I would imagine the Sixers would scoff at. I would scoff at them. I don't think we have enough to entice Philly about Saric, in terms of which players we would make available.

I know some here would prefer to target a proven player that is a few years away from FA/RFA but if we're going to try to lure away a Parker/Gordon/etc, which not attempting to do so imo would be a waste of the "additional" max contract slot that Mitchell's rookie deal essentially provides us this off-season, getting another (potential) star on another rookie deal is essential & the most economical route available imo (financially & in terms of giving ourselves the best possible odds of forming our own big 3). He would also serve as security in the event that the RFA signing doesn't pan out.

Gambling on a top-tier RFA & giving DL the best possible odds of drafting a 3rd star would give us 2 shots at finalizing our long-term core & setting ourselves up as a legitimate long-term championship contender. Which I truly believe we have the potential to be.

I think this is what DL is trying to do. Also Tony Jones shoots down every fan-suggested trade on twitter, except ones for Jabari and Aaron Gordon. I think they're going hard after Jabari. Hopefully Justin Zanik knows some insider stuff from his time with the Bucks, like how much they're willing to pay in him RFA, or which comibination of Middleton/Jabari/Brogdon they want to pay in a year.

Does bringing back Jabari before the all star break mean they are shopping him??

I agree with most of this. I would be surprised if Philly moved Saric. He's a good young player on a cheap rookie contract. And he seems to fit in nicely next to Simmons and Embiid. I don't see what incentive they would have to want to move him. I don't think he's untouchable but I think it would take a great offer to influence the 76ers to move him.

I have no idea if they're shopping him, I just think he's a big target for DL. Either way, the Bucks are going to be in a tough position to pay Jabari in 2018, Middleton and Brogdon in 2019, and THEN give Giannis a supermax in 2021. So I think this is why Utah wants to keep a lot of cap flexibility in 2018 and 2019.

Honestly, I’d rather have Aaron Gordon. Investing a boatload of money in Jabari and praying he stay healthy is a bad idea.

But on the real, if you can get Aaron Gordon and he keeps up this Millsapian grind towards improving, that's pretty much perfect, right?

For the record, I have not been an avid supporter of getting Gordon and am not so certain he keeps improving. But holy moly would that rule to both get him and have that happen.

Also if they pay Jabari and something happens theyve thrown a massive spanner in the works in terms of maximising Giannis.

Hopefully they stop that dumb rule before Donovan qualifies for that.
Those contracts are brutal!!!

And its having an opposite effect. Was brought in so teams could keep their superstars but instead teams are shipping their stars out so they dont have to pay 35% of their cap to 1 dude.

I know its a different topic but getting rid of the designated player and max contracts is the way to go.

True MDAV. If they are shopping Gordon because they might not want to pay him, then we could go after him now and clear off another contract they are trying to dump.

If we took contracts, Orlando would probably sell low. Having the ability to match would be huge.

Well, only if you really think he's worth 27M/yr. Also, it's not like they're giving him away. It will cost real assets.

This tells me don't trade for him and just sign him in FA.
Jazz will be hard pressed to get value for their expirings AND clear enough cap space to sign him up to an offer sheet that the Magic won’t match. If the Jazz can work out a deal that involves taking on Fournier’s contract and doesn’t get stupid with draft picks. . . I’d go for it.

Mitchell, Fournier, Jingles, Gordon and Gobert would be a great core to start with and then tweak the pieces. Mitchell, Gordon and Gobert on the same team would lead to some exciting above the rim play.
