Veterans Camp

Can't tell you how hard I worked to watch the Trey Lyles draft. Was at a company thing in Tahoe... nice day... nice hotel... staying in to watch the draft. TV didn't work... I hustle to get someone up to fix it. End up just watching on my laptop... and we take the guy i hated in that range... I think I kinda talked myself into it after but wasn't a happy day.
Really wanted Kaminsky. Was really underwhelmed with that pick. Really underwhelmed. I didn’t necessarily want Booker, but after knowing we took Lyles had wished we took Booker. It was also weird because PKM wasn’t very high on Booker as a Kentucky guy. Forget what his opinion was on Lyles. Getting Lyles was like finding out you’re having to go to a dinner at Ruby Tuesdays. I mean, it’s not like the meal will be horrible. It’s just that there’s absolutely nothing note worthy and I’d probably enjoy making Kraft Macaroni & Cheese at home a lot more.

Most disappointed I have been with a Jazz draft in the moment probably ever. I was at the stadium and walked out pissed off. Exum was pretty disappointing as well. I was pretty set on us getting Aaron Gordon and had sold myself on him.
I was upset that we gave up two picks to move up to get Trey Burke. Everything time I see Giannis, it makes me remember this horrible feeling.

My theory has been for a while just draft wings... you will get them on the court... so with what was left on the board I would have selected Book. Wanted Turner to slide. Would have also talked myself into Oubre being awesome.

Mac and Cheese is the **** and tbh the one thing I have enjoyed as a 3 yo and a 40 yo. Really not fair to compare any food item to it.

It's amazing that sometimes we'll make macaroni for the younger kids and my wife and I and maybe the older kids get something else. It doesn't matter how fancy or good the meal is, I always end up eyeballing that macaroni and cheese and start taking bites of it, without any cravings for whatever else it was we were eating.

Its the best part of having kids. Sneaking bites of Mac and Cheese and all the snacks I wouldn't otherwise have. You had Gushers lately... well I have... mic drop.

Watching last night I am sure glad the Jazz didn't sign Gary Payton II when they had many chances. Quin and the FO or both were such morons at times. Maybe there is a guy or two lurking in these camps just like him.

Also, has anyone tried the three cheese Kraft?

This is the best macaroni (I know it's not technically macaroni) on the planet. We have switched over to this exclusively the past number of years. The spirals are sometimes good but you have to do at least two packages because you're not getting much. Also really easy to overcook those.

Pshhh, just wait till you're in your 50s. You just say **** it and go and buy that ****. I take gushers and sour patch kids to every movie I go to.

We have Trent Forrest!
Oh...

I thought you said Tent Forest.

My bad.

For me it was Alec Burks. Nothing against AB, but I couldn't believe we didn't take Kawhi Leonard.
In retrospect I felt this way but at the time I wasn't that high on Kawhi. I didnt think he had that in him. I watched him all through college and thought he would be solid, but not a star. He had a lot of flaws coming out. Good for you thinking that at the draft time.

Doubt we would have drafted Giannis regardless of drafting Trey or 2 picks. I am just really glad we bought back into the first round and got Rudy. I think we would have drafted Shroder had we stayed put.

That one was disappointing as well. I didnt care as much about that draft but really wanted Oubre. Obviously in retrospect Booker was the pick.

Ill talk myself into any move the Jazz make draft or FA or whatever. It is often the wrong choice, but I always prefer just to cheer for whatever is happening. No reason to get worked up and angry for me.

I don’t talk myself into all of them. Lyles at least had some thought behind it… hopefully he had more than he showed… size and maybe shooting…turns out Book was the one.

The Doke pick for example.., I knew that was some stupid **** on draft night and I could never rationalize it.

There was a lot of chatter about Jazz needing a PG that year. Burke wouldn’t have fallen far enough to snag him, so they traded both their picks to move up for Burke. Coulda had Schroeder or Michael Carter Williams or CJ McCollum. There was some talk of the “Greek freak” but not much. Jazz we’re determined to draft a PG. Hindsight 20/20.

But boy howdy was I elated they bought the 27th pick and snagged Gobert. A rare triumphant draft night.

I’m optimistic Ainge will improve on the Jazz FO’s lousy prospect evaluation. Go Jazz.

When the Jazz draft the exact guy I want, the track record isn’t great (Kanter and Burke). When they pass up on the exact guy I really want, they end up usually being pretty good. It’s actually crazy to think of the amount of time I’ve spent invested in drafts over the past couple decades and to think that they’ve only drafted the specific guy I’ve wanted going into it twice. I’ve gotten much more passive about drafts the last few years. The last one I remember was when I wanted Divincenzo and didn’t want … damn, it’s late and I can’t remember the Duke kid’s name. Anyway, even that draft I was way less invested in than normal. The first draft that I ever got super into ahead of time was the Raul Lopez draft and that one left me pretty disappointed.

ETA: Grayson Allen.

Lindsey did some good things for us but the game passed him by and he was too caught up in the Spurs way of roster building that prioritized big men. Adding Favors on the MLE and spending our first on Udoka when neither guy could really play with Rudy was such a terrible use of assets.
