Washed Players... It’s Time To Buy Low and Pray

Alright... so this season we saw several washed players magically change when their situations improved and they helped teams win at a high level this year. Guys like Tucker, Batum, Griffin.

In previous years we’ve seen CP go from “the worst contract in the league” per the owner of the Houston Rockets... then leads OKC to the playoffs and nets the Thunder so great assets... now his pouty *** is in the playoffs.

So as I thought... what other guys are out there on bad teams or that signed deals and then struggled... basically where can we buy low. Remember these names likely make you gag a little... think about grabbing CP after his last Houston year “what are you doing... he’s washed and overpaid!!!!”. “Batum????? Lolz... yeah the guy the Hornets benched is really gonna help us”. So realize the stock looks like ****... they are a couple quarterly financials away from being worthless... but.... if things change.... these guys might have something left. Not all these guys are Jazz targets per se... some are just guys a team should consider buying low on... just not us... here we go!!!!

-Eric Gordon - his deal is basically the same as Bogey’s. His last two years have been rough... he’s been hurt on and off. But... if he’s healthy he’s a great third guard that can fill in as a second fiddle. Can defend above his height but also the point guard sized guys. I think he’s the type of guard we lack.

-Eric Bledsoe - 2 years left on his deal at about 18M... last year is non-guaranteed. he had two productive seasons in Milwaukee (on both sides of the ball). He struggled in the playoffs. So he might be a third guard that takes a little bit of a back seat in the playoffs... maybe it was a little flukey though. Jrue is shooting 29% from three in the playoffs. Milwaukee is winning. Maybe it compounded because of Giannis. I think he’s likely a guy who plays 30 minutes in the regular season but toggles down to 20 minutes a game. I think his fit in NO is about as bad as you could find. So the ****** year he had was completely predictable.

Davis Bertans- got a huge contract... came into camp out of shape. May have a long term knee issue (there is a long term issue but can’t remember exactly what it is). I’m sure Wiz would love a redo there... he may bounce back... this one is for @infection

Kemba - OKC already bought low once. He could likely be had for nothing... his contract is scary given the lingering knee issue. Maybe he’s cooked... maybe you get him and he bounces back. This one isn’t one for the Jazz imo...too small even if he’s healthy.

Kevin Love- not a fan... everyone kinda knows the deal here... maybe he has a renaissance outside of Cleveland.

Others I’d consider... Kuzma, Josh Richardson... prolly some other dudes.

Here is the type of deal I’m thinking... you move Bojan and #30 for Bledsoe and #10... NO may do it to get the shooting they desperately need... they have lots of young guys that need time so another lotto pick may not be ideal.

We flip #10 and Favs for Dort and Kenrich Williams. Not sure OKC is interested in another pick this year... might be more appealing for us to send a future unprotected pick... maybe they want both... but I think this deal is in the ballpark and they may have a deal to package picks and move up.

So now do we keep Bledsoe? Well maybe... if we think Mike is leaving we keep him. I might consider keeping him even if Mike stays and use him off the bench. BUT if we are keeping Mike and don’t want to talk Bledsoe into a bench role... you then flip Bledsoe for Gordon. He essentially has one less year on his deal which Tillman would love... we might be able to pick up a couple seconds for our trouble (I’d ask for Tate but they likely tell me to go to hell).

So you end up with:

Mike
Don
Dort
Royce
Rudy

With JC, Joe, Gordon, Williams and a vet minimum center or Udoka as backup. You have more depth and more flexibility and more perimeter defense. You will have injuries but now we have depth to fill in those injuries and manage the regular season. You have also cleared enough dough to go use the taxpayer MLE without Smith getting a second mortgage on the Viv.

Anywell... time to go dumpster diving!
I thought this was going to be a thread about your mom.

So it's come to this. We play roulette while big markets troll for superstars. Maybe they will all get hurt for the rest of our lives, right?

TBO a pretty good topic.

Other than Gobert that is one short *** starting lineup, but I like it
Yeah but they are stout. I think you could mix and match stuff of course. I like the roster more than just that particular lineup.

Dort is sick and just a jazz man through and through. He is the pride of Canada right now.
Pairing him with Rudy on defense seems unfair. He’s just one of those guys that has the ability to stick to his guy and just can’t be screened. I don’t know if the offense ever totally clicks for him but he’s a willing shooter and I think he’s got some potential to improve on that side of the ball. I don’t think they honestly would trade him but I think they should consider it... they’ve done great collecting picks but need the blue chip guys that come from tanking... or they need enough trade chips to force their way into the top three picks.

Just tell him to close his eyes and pretend he’s playing against us.

I like Troy Brown as an option. Young, long, versatile, play maker who could play the 1 to 4. He can throw the lob pass and his defense would be better playing with Rudy.
His shooting is a weakness but I think he could improve.

Good buy low opportunity there. He may not end up being good but he seemed to be on a good trajectory and then it fell apart.

Not washed but buy low on Devonte’ Graham. Dude’s young and a solid offensive player (37.5% from 3 on like 8 shots a game, 5.4 assists…7+ the year before Ball arrived) who’s shaky on d and shaky shooting non 3’s. With real coaching for once, I think he could really improve on both ends.

OPJ
Aminu
Harrison Barnes
Augustin
Avery Bradley
Batum-now low anymore but…
Gary Harris
Josh Jackson
Ibaka
Stanley Johnson
Winslow
Nance—IMO, with real coaching, could be an above average two way player. Athleticism is obvious, looks long, can rebound, hit the 3, his dad was a pro which tells me he’ll work.
Oladipo
Prince
Vonleh
Payton

Batum, Prince, Aminu are at the top of my list. Long 3’s/4’s who can shoot and defend many positions. Some of the others are tough because they’d have to be through a trade.

Oladipo is interesting because he’s not that old (just turned 29) and could be a monster payoff.

I wonder if the Cavs would do Nance for Bogey. That would save us ~6M. He fits in with our timeline better. And I really think he could be the 4 we need. So many players don’t reach their potential on these ****** teams. He’s one of em imo.

I like Devonte Graham a lot, but he doesn’t really address any needs. Maybe as a Conley contingency plan? Move Bogey to Charlotte for Graham and someone else?

Yes, as a Conley contingency plan. I’m estimating our chances of returning-signing Mike at about 20%.

Aminu may be completely washed and that's everyone's concern... which means he could be very low cost and potentially very high reward. If he returned to any form he could be your small ball 5.

Devonte is a good player... I do think the hot shooting run he was on a year or so ago has him a little over-rated. Will be curious to see what kinda contract he gets.
