Obviously when Watson returns there will be a big decision to be made as to who is the backup, Watson or Tinsley.
Personally, I think the choice is clear. Jamall Tinsley. He can run the break, and a half-court offense. No one will mistake him for an offensively dominant player, but teams must respect his shot and defend him. His passing is 2nd to none on the team, and he dictates the halfcourt action. I can see improvement in Kanter and Favors running pick n' rolls and I attribute that to playing with Jamall these past handful of games. Yes, he isn't a very good defender, sometimes pretty poor, letting penetration happen. Rare is it though backup PG's are really good enough to expose him. I believe his positives outweigh any negatives he brings.
I loved Watson hustle and passion at the start of the season. They were 2nd to none on the team. He ran the fast break with the young guys amazingly during our home heavy schedule, making exciting plays left and right. His defensive hustle was suffocating at times, resulting in TO's and the rest of the team matching his intensity. The fact is though he struggles to run sets in the half-court and his lack of offensive game means teams usually don't guard him at all. Also, since his first ankle injury his defensive ability has dropped to sub-par. He still brings his trademark intensity, but it doesn't have the same effect now that we are playing just as many road games as home games.
Jamall should be the man going forward and getting all the back-up PG minutes. What do you think?
