We have to have Harden

Not bitter, just a little upset about the darft lottery and took it out on the board. My apologies.

What you said about the Jazz going into the luxury tax is exactly what has me worried. We are in a small market and need to be alot smarter financially than most teams. I encourage you to read links like this https://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/CBA-111128/how-new-nba-deal-compares-last-one and study luxury tax implications. It is very alarming that you would brag about us going into the luxury tax, when that could potentially cripple our franchise.

Your bitterness has turned into defensiveness. I was NOT bragging about going into the luxury tax. I was simply reminding you that the Millers have spent money. If you would quit being so bitter and defensive you might be realize that our opinions are not that far apart. I am also upset about not getting any lottery picks. If you read my past posts, everyone of them was supporting missing the playoffs and getting the GS pick. As far as financial responsibility goes, I don't understand how me stating a fact about the Miller's willingness to go in the luxury tax has anything to do with bragging or with my stance on managing the finances for the Jazz.

I agree with you that the Jazz need to be financially responsible. In the past they haven't always done that. I didn't think they should have extended Harping or Okur and I still am upset about giving AK the MAX. I believe this discussion started with a poster saying the Jazz "have to get Harden" and many people think he is a MAX guy. I have my reservations about him being a MAX guy and don't know how OKC could make him a MAX guy without getting rid of other key pieces. If the Jazz were to get him then people need to be ready/willing to lose some current key pieces because the Jazz cannot keep all their draft picks if they start signing FAs.

My concern is that if the Jazz continue to get MAX guys through the draft or FA they need to be smart because they might end up in the same position as OKC. It is too early to tell if the Jazz will be in that position with their young guys. As some have suggested, a possible scenario is that the Jazz bring in Harden and Dragic, and resign Millsap, and then have two or three of their "young guns" bust out and demand 10+million $ contracts. Then the Jazz would find themselves in the same position OKC could be with Harden, already having two MAX players and some promising talent that still needs to get paid while also filling out their roster. So I think we are in agreement. The Jazz need to be financially responsible. I just think you are so upset about not having draft picks you started ranting about how cheap the Millers are. I don't think they are cheap, I just think they have made some bad financial decisions. I think we both agree that the Jazz need to be smart with their $$$$ but we may differ in how to do that.

The only great contribution Wayne Gretzky has made to this planet is his daughter.

Harden looked like a superstar last night but sadly the better he plays makes me think he's untouchable. I really see OKC signing both Ibaka and Harden and somehow finding a way to deal Perkins.

I'd like to see how this works out. Two max contracts already, AND they wanna throw big dollars at Ibaka and Harden. I can't wait to see how that goes.

I doubt they can get both Ibaka and Harden. I probably undervalued Ibaka when I said 10 per year, he will probably be more like 12-13.

They will have 8 million in cap space in 2013. If they sign Ibaka for that 8 million and trade Perkins that would free up about 8 mil in cap space. Harden will probably resign for 12-14 which would put them at max 6 mil above the salary cap which is well below luxury tax

Ibaka for $8Mil? This is one of your bestest ideas evar.

I don't think Ibaka is worth a max deal, maybe 13 million max because his offensive is inconsistent at times. 13 - 8 = 5 million difference. 56 + 6 mill above + 5 million dollar added salary = 67 million. That's like right near the luxury tax, honestly it all depends on if Ibaka and Harden want to take less money. If OKC can win more a championship this year, I bet they are fine with going over luxury tax because they are making more revenue with ticket sells, etc.

There is a huge difference between $8 million and $13 million, especially given the new penalties for exceeding the lux tax. Then, try to fill out a roster. They can't keep both guys unless both take significantly less than their market values. Not happening.

I think Westbrook and KD will take a paycut in order to keep Harden similar to Miami

this is why you had that red dot under your name for so long. Then, PKM noticed that you were unswayed by all of heaven and earth, thought that was cute, then went on a rep spree.

NOT HAPPENING

The way I see it, the Thunder are going to be Westbrook, KD, Harden, Ibaka (let's just say that as a group, they'll be costing $60 million), then Sefolosha and Collison ($6 million), then a bunch of past their primes but sti serviceable vets, rookie contract players, and D-Leaguers.

That's into the tax, but when you're playing for championships every year, I don't know how else you're supposed to run your organization. Again, there is simply no way they let Harden go in free agency. Maybe they have to deal him to save money down the road, but they're going to get something for him.
