We have to have Harden

Based upon your comments, It is obvious that you don't understand the financial side of the NBA at all.

Or maybe I just haven't been brain washed by the Miller family, like you have.

"Hey we aren't going to spend enough to do anything more then get swept but please support our business and buy outrageous $17 tickets and while your at it drop another $20 on an authentic jersey, after all this is a business and not a game." --Greg Miller.

Look at the Yankees, they spend a lot of money but look at some of those players they put out there on the field. When you see what some of those guys can do, suddenly the money becomes more than just a number, and viola, you have yourself a winning tradition.

I think Sam Presti is smart enough to realize that at the end of the day scared money don't make money, and most of all it's about WINNING.

I wasn't able to watch the entire Spurs-Thunder game last night, but anybody who did (and has an eye for the game!) wouldn't question whether Ibaka is going to get Chandler-type money. The boxscore doesn't show it (rebound-rate blah blah blah). He and Sefolosha were awesome in PnR defense, and any big that can switch and show that kind of aggression and containment is going to get paid. Nuff said.

This isn't about semantics, this is about financial reality. Look at Miami they have basically three max players and can't sign anymore because it would cause them to pay a huge luxury tax. Every team wants to put the best 5 guys on the floor but they can't because of $$$$ concerns. It is the main reason why the Lakers got rid of Odom. Sorry U gotta get a clue but the NBA is a business and every franchise has to consider the financials when making personnel decisions.

That is why I always point out to certain Jazz fans when they say bring this guy in and pay him the MAX and then bring this guy in and pay him the MAX. It sounds nice but then when Favors, Kanter, Hayward etc come up for their contracts there is no money left.

That's okay because Harden is more valuable than any of them. He is a proven stud. You can give him the ball anywhere and he can break down the D and score, as well as being a great passer. He is better now than any jazzman, and is very very likely going to be better than any of them in the long run. I would give up any of them for Harden.

This guy is calling $17 tickets outrageous and complaining that the team won't throw out max money to all the players. Now that's rich!

So your a financial guy? I see. Well with all due respect, this is a BASKETBALL message board. If you want to simply talk business go join a forum on forbes.com

Only time will tell but I think either way you are missing the forest for the trees.

The new CBA puts limits on teams, and it's not just making them spend a lot more. Tax paying teams have less flexibility in trades, a smaller MLE, can't use their BAE, and won't be able to do sign and trades. Teams like Dallas and New York can't just throw a buttload of cash around and just not worry about it because they're so filthy rich. Not anymore. Owners are handcuffed in improving their team once they go into the tax. Talking about putting a team together while ignoring the finacial aspect basically just means you're talking out your ***.

Wow. Forgive me if I would rather be able to rent 12 redbox movies AND buy a footlong Subway sandwich than just pay all my money to just watch us give away all our draft picks just to get swept.

Jazz went into the luxury tax so I don't see how spending was an issue. You seem a little bitter today.

Not bitter, just a little upset about the darft lottery and took it out on the board. My apologies.

What you said about the Jazz going into the luxury tax is exactly what has me worried. We are in a small market and need to be alot smarter financially than most teams. I encourage you to read links like this https://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/CBA-111128/how-new-nba-deal-compares-last-one and study luxury tax implications. It is very alarming that you would brag about us going into the luxury tax, when that could potentially cripple our franchise.

$17 dollars per ticket?!?!?! WTF!?!?!?!

I went to an Edmonton Oilers game with a $135 dollar ticket earlier this year. It was upper bowl, 2nd row. Lower bowl tickets are always >$150. Not to mention the fact that our team ****ing blows as well- we just landed the first overall draft pick for the 3rd time in three years.

Hockey is gay.

Whats a Edmington Oiler?

The $17 price tag is just for the seat, its not an "all inclusive" type deal like I assume your ticket was.

So tack on $2 for parking, $3 for a mini pizza, and $4 for a can of watered down beer and things can add up pretty fast.

Lucky for me, I always have my mom drop me off at the games (saves on gas and parking) and I usually sneak in a tuna sandwich or a pb&j along with maybe some gummy worms or whatever I'm feeling that day.

LOL nope!! Just the ticket!! Parking is ~$8, Beers are ~$6 (not that I drink), and food is always >$5. Edmonton is also a pretty wealthy city, so maybe that needs to be taken into account?

And for starters:

This is our boy Gretzky. Won a ****load of championships with him.

Dala if you don't drink, what are we going to do if we meet in Vancouver? I ain't gonna go walking in the park holding your hand ya little pansy.

Oh. LOL. Was thinking Arena football for some reason. Didnt know Gretzky played for Edmington after his Kings career, but I'm not a huge hockey guy. Glad he finally got to hoist Lord Stanleys cup, F the doubters!!!

WOAH WOAH WOAH bro, lets backtrack for a ****ing second here.

His first 10 seasons as a Hockey player (1st one was WHL, latter 9 were NHL) were with the Oilers, where he nearly 4PEATED with the Oilers. He was then suddenly traded to the Kings, and the Oilers lost in that season, but won in the season after. AKA, the Oilers won 5 championships in 7 years in the late 80s, only 1 of which was without Gretzky. Oilers won 2 in a row, lost in the WC SemiFinals to the Flames off of an own goal in game 7 (****ing Steve Smith), won 2 in a row after, lost in the 1st round, then won again.

But yeah :) Pretty awesome that Hockey's greatest basically made his career, and peaked here. He never won a championship anywhere else, despite leading the Kings to the Finals in 93.
