What's new

Welcome back, Devin Harris

I'm starting to think Harris is BPA available. He's likely willing to play second fiddle if another guy earns his spot, and will definitely sell his services for less money. I never thought I'd say it but he was so much better at running an offense than Hero Mo. How about 3 years/$13,000,000 with the understanding that he's a fill in and not a solution?

He'd be a great backup pg.

Hell ya. Lets get another vet to take playing time from Burks and our new point guard. Brilliant. We can just erase our memory from the last two and a half years.

I would prefer giving a shot to Stockton Jr, D-Leaguer or any random good looking PG from Europe.

For that rate, Harris is a steal. Before we were idiotic and decided to trade Harris for Williams, I was really interested to see what a Mo-Harris backcourt could do for our tanking efforts.

One problem with this potential idea.
The Jazz never signed Tyrone Corbin to a contract with the understanding of not playing veterens over young guys.
So goodbye Burks and young point guard prospect.

Got my money on Will Bynum. 1 year 4 mil.

Maybe a team option for year #2.

That's the direction I'd go anyway. I don't want to give a guy like Harris a multi-year deal. It's just treading water IMHO. Better to sign the 'BPA who will take a 1 year contract' instead. And I think that guy is Bynum. He's a dynamic scorer, able to blow past his man at will. Not going to be the best defender or playmaker, but, he'd be exciting to watch. And I think the lure of a starting gig would probably be enough to convince him to sign a 1 year deal.

I don't want him back but all these points are pretty valid.

That being said I'd rather see the young Jazz PGs of the future just go on a trial by fire. But Harris as a backup PG is not the worst thing in the world.

Excellent post. MOAR!

I think that's what all of us really want but it's sort of a catch 22. Having a **** point guard for an entire season is going to hinder the growth of Kanter and Favors, who are way more important at this point that some hypothetical Basketball John. Also, as much as everyone likes Shredder it's unlikely Jazz strike lightening at #14 or 21, at least not for a couple seasons of growth. They will need a vet that can keep the team improving, even though it will piss fans off having another vet stop-gap playing over an unproven rookie.

Yup. Whoever we pick definitely won't be good next year, and might not ever be good. As much as we argue about who to take, odds are both are going to suck.

No ****ing way Harris is going to play back-up PG for a non-playoff team. He might take a gig like back up/combo guard behind a Chris Paul or Tony Parker but there is no way in the world he'll come back to Utah to back up "PG-to be determined".

I've read that he's looking to go to Milwaukee after Jennings' inevitable departure.
