What's new

What does this mean?

C'mon, now some of you are saying Donovan sent Favors a message by saying he is interested in luring PG? That's pretty twisted and is negative about Donovan who I believe is a good teammate.

I personally believe that Favors has known he is leaving for a while. I even think the FO might know. For as much as he might want to stay, the FO isn't going to overpay and his playing time is only likely to diminish in coming years.

I think moving his family to Atlanta was a good sign he's leaving. If he was staying in Utah, they already had every thing setup here. When he goes to another team (not just Atlanta), he knows his family will be around family there.

I'm sure Donovan didn't send that message intentionally, but it would be an easy take away from Favors' perspective. I mean, if the Jazz were to sign PG, there is no way Favors isn't getting his rights renounced. Donovan saying he's definitely going to have a talk with PG implies that the above scenario is one he would like to see happen.

No intentional shot at Favors, but we all say **** like this that has unintended implications that are accidentally hurtful to people we care about.

One thing to consider is how much we assume players know about cap. Any player I’ve heard talk about cap or trades or whatever talks in such a fashion that they’d get lit up should they have posted anonymously on JFC.

No because Ingles is gonna be on this team next season regardless but if we sign PG then we wouldn't be able to afford to re-sign Favors.
Of course Ingles is going to be on the team, but PG is a small forward. If we had PG then Ingles would be moved to the bench. Neither PG or Ingles can play at the 4 position for a majority of a game and it make sense. Why would this even affect Favors?

Because to outright sign PG, we'd have to renounce Favors to release his caphold.

Because if we sign Paul George then there is no way that we would be able to afford to keep Favors. It affects Favors probably more than anyone else on the team. If the Jazz were to sign George then Favors is 100% not gonna be in a Jazz uniform next season.

donovan is about to find out the hard way that it takes a special somebody to really want to team up in UTAH. It's not a FA destination and I remember d.will had these same aspirations, but soon felt frustrated.

There’s a decent chance he won’t be here anyway. If he wants too much the Jazz will/should let him walk. It pains me to say that because I’ve been a Favors guy since we got him in the DWill trade.

You’re not 100% wrong but I am gonna disagree with your take. D-Will never seemed to have the same clout at any point in his career in Utah, than Donovan already has. Donovan has the games superstars tweeting about him and seeking him out after games just so they can speak to him one on one. Donovan’s attitude and personality are so much beyond that of Deron Williams that it’s not up for debate. Donovan also has a cast of talented, likable teammates. Utah is still not going to be a destination that FA’s seek out, but it wouldn’t shock me if Donovan, Rudy, Ingles and even Rubio talk a guy like PG into the fact that they can win a title together.

Deron was a curmudgeon. Donovan is already respected and liked by every superstar in the league. Utah will always have a stigma to a great number of players. But the Jazz also have a very likeable, player's coach in Snyder, as opposed to Sloan, who I think was viewed in the Deron days as stubborn, ill-tempered and passe. Utah also has room for a scorer. It's a different offense; everyone touches the ball. Back in Deron's days it was very much 1/4 P&R with Deron and Boozer as the established 1/2 scorers.

Pre-injuries, Deron was a great player, an all-star. But Donovan is on pace to be a super-star. He's electrifying with what he does on the court. And off the court, he's becoming a media star as well. And he has connections to everyone it seems.

Free agents are meant to pretend they want to stay so as to try to get other teams to pay more to 'entice' them away. To me, selling up his house was a pretty god sign. My guess is that if he gets an offer in Atlanta, he'll probably take it.

I think Aneurism is right. Unless Favs has marital problems and the move was separation related, I think the intent is to return to the South. Any decent offer from Atlanta he likely accepts.

That was over 10 years ago, bud. Social media, and media, alone has changed a lot over that time.
