What if Deron does leave us for Dallas?

I know it is just a rumor but I can't stop thinking about the fact that Deron could leave the Jazz in 2 years. It kills me to think of such a thing. Jazz basketball would resume like it did when stockton and Malone left but it is too painful for me to think of that possibility. I hope Deron is a Jazzman for life but you just never know?

I know it is just a guess but I can't stop thinking about the fact that the world may end in 2 years. It kills me to think of such a thing. Life would resume like it did when the dinosaurs died but it is too painful for me to think of that possibility. I hope the world never ends but you just never know?

***You know, I'd just mourn a little bit and then go out and find someone younger, prettier, faster and richer.

Seriously, before Stockton the Jazz had a pretty good PG who Hot Rod referred to as "the fastest of them all." Stockton came in and made him expendable. And then Malone became the #1 option and the Jazz got rid of AD. And didn't we just have a former all-star PF decide to take his balls and go to Chicago? And KOC replaced him with Big Al.

We're paying MAX money for a fantastic PG. But we're paying the MAX. As others have noted, paying that much for a PG might be foolhardy. It handcuffs the Jazz from shoring up other positions. There are a lot of very good young PG's around the league. I'd say PG and PF may be the best stocked positions in the NBA right now. And more come in each year. So if Deron leaves, yeah, that postion suffers. But KOC could probably get a trade exception for him and then parlay that into another starter, whether that's a PG, SF or SG.

It will put us well under the cap so we could get a free agent with the money or draft a new PG. Seems to be a lot of good young PGs out there right now so there should be a good amount out there in 2 years as well.

Ban JBradshaw.

Yes I second that.

For your information, JBradshaw, we covered this topic to death starting with D-Will's interview with David Locke mentioning that he no longer lives in Salt Lake in Summer (just search for it in the forum). Then there was the Dime magazine piece which was badly written by an intern suggesting that D-Will will leave in 2 years to join Dallas. Then David Locke's rebuttal letter to the Dime Magazine piece clearing up a lot of nonsense (i.e., D-Will bought a summer home in a non-NBA city and has no property in Dallas). It's all there in the forum you just have to search for it.

Essentially my own conclusion was that a lot of things has to happen in 2 years. In my estimation we have a good chance of making a deep playoff run this year given the new legit talent in Al Jefferson. Phoenix and Denver have also gotten worse. Also in the year after that Phil Jackson will retired - and that will be the end of the Lakers Dynasty in my mind. Jazz's current roster is young and improving with D-Will, Jefferson, Millsap, Miles and Hayward as the core and will only get better. There is a good chance that we will become a good team for a long time and D-Will will decide to stay.

Also other factors to consider include:

- the new collective bargaining agreement which may introduce the new "Franchise Player" rule
- Possible introduction of a "hard cap" preventing teams like Dallas and Lakers to spend as much as they want
- Emergence of Gordon Hayward which I think will become a very special player

GlassEater is right - if D-Will decide to leave - we'll just simply go out and find another PG. Imagine $35m coming off the books for Kirilenko and D-Will combined and imagine who we could get for that kind of money especially when the new terms of the CBA come into effect.

There are too many factors to consider and to be worried about. Just enjoy the season and hope for the best.

Learn to trust the Jazz's front office - I know I have.

Most of this board would die just like when we are in a slump. Lots of bandwagnoneers here. But then again, people would get back that 03-04 team that they always long to see again.

If we dont make it to the Conference Finals in the next two years. Then I would say its a safe bet the Deron will be looking at bigger pastures. He wants to win more then he wants an extra 1.5 or 2 million dollars a year. Money talks but not so much when your set for life no matter what team you play for.

Haha....classic YB.

If he leaves, Frank Hughes will come out and predict the Jazz will win 9 games only for that season, only for us to do another countdown to 9 wins and kill him when we reached 9 wins in November.
