Garrett Temple.

Chalmers and Temple are the only realistic options we can get.

I don't wanna punch myself while watching games at 4-5 AM thanks to Chalmers and his no brainers.
So Temple...

It sounds like if the Jazz do look to sign a taller guard to replace Exum for a year, then Bryce Cotton will be released.

"Bryce Cotton probably has very slim chances of ever sniffing the starting lineup, but let’s talk Cotton for a minute. Though it seems contrary to say, the Exum mishap might have complicated Cotton’s chances of making the roster. The Jazz may feel like they need to add some outside help now, and if they do, they’re certainly not going to dedicate five roster spots to point guards.

The downside, of course, is that the Jazz have no way of maintaining Cotton’s rights if they cut him. He could be called up — or even claimed off waivers — by any NBA team. But let’s also not overstate what kind of a tragedy that would be. Cotton has had a nice summer, and before that he had a handful of impressive outings at the tail end of last season. But he’s still a borderline rotation player in even the most optimistic scenarios. His gumption and grit are remarkable, but he has an uphill battle, especially if the Jazz add a point guard from outside."

I believe Cotton is as good as gone. Stay with Burke, Neto, and Cotton, and he'll make the roster. But right now the odds seem overwhelming that Cotton will not be playing for the Jazz next year.....

I wasn't aware Dan Clayton was part of the coaching staff or front office. Quoting him as evidence the Jazz will be getting rid of Cotton carries about as much weight as quoting someone from this board.

Red, I know you're a huge Cotton fan. But you have to step in from the ledge.

When the Jazz had Stockton and the fastest of them all (Rickie Green) at point guard they were murdering people. With Cotton his speed and frestiness can create its own set of matchup problems. Don't write his epitah just yet. What's out there is garbage. Temple was undrafted and made the Kings roster as a 2/3.

If the Jazz are looking for a taller point guard how about Davion Berry from Weber State who played for Maine in the DLeague for the DLeague select team. He was Big Sky Conference MVP and was compared to Damian Lillard. He is 6'4" and played for the Jazz in Vegas in 2014.

I like Cotton more than Burke. If both were on the same contract and were undrafted rookies who would get the nod? Can't make decisions based on historic value or sunk costs.

Neto is a complete unknown. Based on his Euro numbers I'm not all that excited about him. I'd rather have him spend this year in the D League. I think we are looking at a guy like Temple as someone who can play two positions, thus we aren't fully committed to giving 5 roster spots to pgs.

I don't think releasing Cotton is a tragedy, but he will be a productive player on a favorable contract imo. He's also one of those guys who can win you a game or two by himself when he gets hot or makes some hustle plays that turn the game around. Think Nate Robinson without the stupid.

I did see that our old Jazz hero Sundiata Gaines was playing for Detroit in Summer League.

With Exum injured, there is no way Cotton gets traded or released. This is the best chance he'll get to prove himself in the NBA.

Is Hill available? I would be ok with that.

Just a rumor/idea that came from Zach Lowe months ago. I'm not sure that's the direction Indy is going, though. I do Lyles, Burke, and second-rounder. I don't know how ridiculous that sounds, because if they're re-tooling or whatever, that's pretty okay, right? IDK

The more I think about it, the less I believe that the FO will use significant assets in order to upgrade the PG position. I still expect them to pursue a lesser known commodity (such as Temple) to act as a stop-gap until they have more information on Exum's injury & what to expect in regards to his rehabilitation & eventual return. As shown by the Temple rumors, they will likely target defensive minded PG's who are capable of providing similar qualities to Exum.

As successful as the team would likely be with a Hill-caliber PG, unless he is available at a minimal cost (which is highly unlikely), I would be surprised to see them put even more resources into the position as the team was already successful with a lesser quality PG, the FO still doesn't know how the injury will affect Exum long-term, & (unless it were a top 5ish PG) the team is not going to compete for a championship regardless of who is running the point. Unless Neto proves capable of replicating the defense & passing that Exum provided (which is a possibility), I see the FO making a "minor" deal rather than a significant trade for an established PG.

This year was supposed to determine how well the formula that led to a 19-10 record after the ASG would work throughout an entire season (+ the affect of adding depth), & while the Exum injury makes it more difficult to do that, replacing him with a similar style PG will still give us an idea of what we currently have & what we still need in the future. As long as Exum's overall potential isn't affected by this injury, it will (hopefully) turn out to be nothing more than a minor bump in the road to an NBA Championship.

We'd be the odds-on favorite to be #1 defense in the league with Hill ... and he'd help our offense. Daymn...

LOL at all the George Hill responses, He's 29!!! He's too far ahead of timeline the Jazz seem to be working around to give up the type of assets Indi will want back for him. Plain and simple, **** that.

Hate to say it (I'm not gonna say I want the Jazz to go get him) but the proper response to this thread is Mario Chalmers. He'd be an easy sell to the fans because of his championship pedigree, and because he's just a rental. Most importantly he can probably be had for a pittance, (Miami is over the tax threshold correct??) so its minimal risk.

problem is that Chalmers sux.

https://www.movienewsguide.com/nba-...chalmers-utah-jazz-probable-destination/83994 <-- FWIW thats obviously not a source I check, or find to be reliable.

For obvious reasons that headline caught my eye on another board. (in which Heat fans were acting like it was legit). The fact that no one sourced it here was enough proof of it being bogus in my eyes.

But yeah, and he'd disrupt the chemistry if they moved for him now. If **** falls apart however, I could see him in the in the fold as a stop-gap PG.

While I understand that Hill's age is a minus for us, his experience and fit would almost certainly buy us legitimacy and playoff experience RIGHT NOW. It's time for the older part of our core to get some playoff burn, and for the team as a whole to experience what is means to be GOOD in the postseason. If we have to spend a few assets to get that done, then I think it's value well spent. I certainly wouldn't give up the farm, but I'd do Burke, Lyles, and a second without hesitating.
