What weaknesses do the Jazz have?

Clearly the current weaknesses are overall playmaking ability at PG and Al's inability to defend in space. It looks like perimeter D and shooting have been addressed.

If Burks fulfills his potential and Gordon achieves some consistency problem #1 will be made up for. Making use of Zone concepts to keep Al down low could really help when teams simply repeatedly use his assignment to set picks on the perimeter. Burks' ability to crash the rim will be unleashed with the improved outside shooting. He's going to be awesome.

100 percent believe Burks will be awesome as a driver. 100 percent uncertain he will be given that latitude.

Like everyone else said, we need a star player, a go-to scorer who can make plays out on the floor and create for others when the chips are down. I think we'll have enough post scoring, defense and rebounding, but we need a guy who can just wreck opposing offenses the way Karl & John did, the way Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli do, the way Dirk did, the way Lebron and Wade did, etc.

I don't yet see that player on our roster. Burks has some potential here. Favors too if his game develops.

Yea, those are the two guys. IMO their strengths fit really well. Burks can crash the rim at an elite level, and Favors is there to clean up or be assited. Conversely if Favors develops properly he will demand a double and dish to a cutting Burks. This is the future fantasy world I live in. That they are both long energetic defenders really completes their status as the future of Utah.

There's no question Burks has the potential to be a dynamic scorer/playmaker. Hayward is a very solid complimentary player with a lower ceiling. My fear is we stifle Burks and accentuate Hayward in a nod to "the offense". Hayward will always be great in "an offense." But you don't want him creating as a focal point. Burks is a guy who will be stifled in "an offense". He needs the latitude to create.

That's not to say Burks shouldn't play within an offense. But he needs more of a green light going forward to run PnR, or just take his man off the dribble. Then, based on his success, you tweak the offense. Hayward isn't going to be able to do the same thing unless he makes a radical jump from year 2 to 3.

I'd like a little more emotion out of the Jazz myself. Last year it seemed like the games were soooooo booring. Even in wins. Our offense was just a yawn fest. That's one thing I think we really miss out of Deron and Boozer.

Some emotion. Maybe Mo Williams can bring a little fire to the team, I hope so.

A real center who is a good defender is also some of the important things that Jazz need. A center, who does not necessarily do good in offense, that could fit near scoring bigmen would solve many problems against the teams that Jazz gave points in the paint away. And most importantly, that is important for every team, everyone on the floor must do pick and roll defense flawlessly, like connected organs of one single organism. That requires sweating blood and hardworking in all the minutes when on the floor, so basically earning the wages.

All four of our bigs suck at passing out of the post.

Al and Millsap are going to shoot the ball regardless of who's wide open, and how many defenders they have on them. Favors and Kanter just aren't good passers.

The stare and whine by Deron, lagging behind to jaw at the refs while the opposing PG was running the ball up the court?
Or the obscenities by Boozer with each missed shot or rebound?

Can't tell you how many times I watched Jazz games with the volume "muted," even when my daughter wasn't around.

I do agree the Jazz need a little more passion, though. Millsap and Jefferson are both quiet players. And when they account for 40% of the offense, it's understandable not much excitement is shown. However, as the Jazz get some made threes, Burks driving to the hoop, Favors finishing etc., I think this year it will be a little different.
