No way I'm gonna let this thread die.
Bought a bunch of wine for my wife for mother's day. While I was there I bought a mixed 6pack of IPAs.

Most looking forward to Tricerahops. I've had it before (only one time) and have missed it.
Making a batch of UGLI Baby tomorrow and want the IPAs for inspiration...but I won't be drinking any of them until after it is made. I have a strict no drinking while brewing policy.

It was good. I particularly like their brown ale and their stout, this beer didn't really hold up. They most definitely have a "house" flavor and it was particularly strong and not terribly enjoyable in this beer,
Working on Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA now. It's good but not great. I'm gonna chalk that up to the Utah State Liquor store and their new central ordering system because what seems wrong with this bottle of fresh squeezed is that it ain't all that fresh... Thanks Herbert!

I actually picked up some Detour on Saturday. I like it a lot. And it gets your buzzed very quickly. Win win.

It scares me to think how much of a lightweight I am now. Haven't had a drop since October. I have a stash of Johnny Walker I'm looking to get rid of(not looking to sell as I just don't want to throw it out) if anybody's interested. PM for deets. I work at 3 AM so you probably won't get a response tonight.
Figures that I quit drinking completely two days ago..

Tried Squatters Kristalweizen last night.
Not bad. This is a 4%abv "grocery store beer."
Didn't need to buy beer but Kristalweizen was one of my early regulars, although I haven't made it in a few years. From what I remember the Squatters version was very much like the one I used to make.
Very light, ultra clear, a little more than a hint of banana flavor, creamy and malty.

Trying a couple out of state craft beers available in grocery stores. In this case a couple "session" IPAs, Goose Island's (Chicago, IL) Goose IPA and High Lakes (Boise, ID) Sockeye Session IPA.
Goose island is a damn good session IPA. Flavorful and smooth. Very noticeable hop aroma. Easy drinking "session" IPA.
Sockeye left me feeling like I got socked in the eye. Overly bitter in a harsh way. The aroma was enticing and the color was a honeyed gold that had me drooling. Then it was just harsh.
In other news, there was already a beer in the seat "session" IPA is currently occupying, it's called Pale Ale. In the UK better known simply as a Bitter. IPA is a variant of English Bitter that has a higher alcohol content. So, when you reduce the alcohol content (and balance) of an IPA you don't suddenly create a "session" IPA, you have simply made a Bitter. /soapbox

I had a nice off-brand cola/orange mix last night with dinner. It was just fizzy enough with a mild citrus kick. Heady cola flavor and aroma. I think we got it at Aldi. Would recommend it.
It's been a few years since I tried what I think was 90min. It's not available in UT so my sister had to smuggle me in a couple. From what I remember I liked it, but it wasn't Earth shattering. Really wish I could get it locally.

I just tried all of Park City Brewery's new beers. They were all solid. Nothing spectacular but good. I really want to try some of Avenues Proper Brewing beers. They look like they have some cool beers. There are like 10 new breweries opening this year, great times in Utah.

I don't keep up with it religiously but it's a great blog for beer in Utah. I think it's also one of the only places online to find previous years Beehive Brew Off results. He gets them up pretty quickly after they are released.

I'll be doing my first ever double brew day this weekend for two of my intended entries, Third Cousin (Scottish Ale) and Pistol Porter (English Brown Porter). Then once I get those out of their fermentors, about three weeks, I'll be doing another double brew day to brew both my British Bitters, YES (Strong Bitter) and Worker Bee (Ordinary Bitter).

What was the English Pale Ale category is now the British Bitter category and within that category what was Extra Special Bitter (my most brewed style and what I call YES, Young's Extra Special) is now Strong Bitter. Scottish ales have changed as well. What was Scottish 80/- (eighty shilling) is now Scottish Export Ale. And Porter used to be a main category but the various styles of porter are now spread amongst various other main style categories, so Brown Porter is now in the Brown British Beer category with Dark Mild and Brown Ale. Baltic Porter is now in Strong European Lagers and there is an American Porter in the American Porter and Stout category.
Anyway, wish me luck. Although the category name has changed I'm hoping to get my 4th gold in a row in the British Bitter category with either Worker Bee (2014 gold medal winner) or YES (2012 & 2013 gold medal winner).
I hope my Scottish Export, Third Cousin, comes out well because it's the beer I make that I like the most nowadays.
